A good team would’ve capitalized on the momentum of the walk off win. Marmol’s continued idiotic comments and Mozeliak’s arrogance after several mistake laden offseasons show a lack of respect for a knowledgeable fan base. We should all revolt from attending until the product is vastly improved.

Lolly keeps making the case for everyone complaining easy. My gripe today is if he didn't give Gorman the sign to steal ( Which I believe he did, Sorry ) third then he has no control over his players? He's lose/lose on this one. If he gave the sign it was wrong and needless for the reasons you pointed out. It sucked that stadiums air out of it giving all the momentum to Arizona. Nobody will ever sell this guy to me as a Major League Coach and he keeps proving my point.

It actually WAS one of Matz's best outings, JD. He's been terrible. I can count on one hand the number of good performances Matz has given the Cardinals since he arrived. Marmol was saying that tongue-in-cheek, trying to avoid the negative. However, I recommend that Ollie start giving more "no comment" responses to the press. No matter what he said there would have been met positively, so don't fuel more controversy by trying to support Matz.

What's tough to swallow is seeing the Blake Snell-less Padres one and a half games behind the mighty Dodgers with with Schildt at the helm while we've got Robomanager 3000 over here saying it was one of Matz's better outings because his velo looked good. I wonder if Marmol knows the expression missing the forest for the trees...

A BASIC rule of thumb in baseball FOREVER has been. . .You NEVER make the 3rd out at THIRD BASE. . .DON'T make the 3rd out at THIRD BASE!!!! Don't gamble on games and don't make the 3rd out at 3rd base. . .I knew that playing in Little League SO many years ago. . .If Marmol didn't send him then it's STILL on Marmol for not having control of his players. As a manager, YOU tell the guys who has a green light and who doesn't. And unless you have Lou Brock or Vince Coleman you tell 'em ALL not to do what Gorman did. There's enough blame to go around. The little league coaching staff, brought to you by the guy that had "professional differences " with Mike Shildt. I've been blaming Big Mo as the team deteriorated over the past few years, even before 2023. Now, I have to examine how committed to winning the owners are. I am not saying sell the team, because anybody remember Stan Kroenke, so be careful what we wish for. We need to appeal to the profits, 40,000 fans to 20,000 fans, fewer people in Ballpark Village drinking and celebrating. They are killing the goose that laid the golden egg. Take notice that the Oakland triple A's drew 4000 fans.

Well, yesterday I said I would try to be cautiously optimistic despite this team letting us down the last couple of years. That game tonight didn't do anything to dissuade my pessimism. The Cardinals looked liked the same team from last year. Throwing to the wrong base, poor plate discipline, bad routes to balls, it's like a cornucopia of bad fundamentals. And of course, as soon as a couple of bounces or pitches go against them they look like a bunch of zombies just waiting for the game to end. I can't help but root for them, but my brain keeps telling me don't get attached.

I jumped off the bandwagon after the miserable showing they gave us in the off-season. Even still I find myself reflexively starting to root for them at times. Then I have to remember that they lied to us and I snap out of it real quick and can go back to rooting for the opposition. It’s my version of tough love. This front office will not change unless the fan base forces it to. They had it too easy too long, and took advantage of us.

Oli plays what he has. And he has a ball club with a lineup full of question marks and a rotation full of #5 starters. Here’s the big question…Mo said payroll this year would suffer because attendance was down last year. So, what happens this next offseason if we repeat last year? This looks like a plummet to the bottom and we might be down here a while.

I think the point is still good. If you spend less because you anticipate a hit to the pocket book based on recent performance then it seems likely next year could be more of the same.

JD, I've been saying consistently since way back when he was still in the Minors that Walker has too many holes in his swing. I cited his K rate last year being in the top 35 in all of MLB. I predicted here in the off-season that teams now have a book on him, the end of 2023 spurt he had was because teams were not taking StL seriously, there were a lot of teams calling up pitchers for end-of-season auditions, and the contenders were resting pitchers when they played us. I said we would know very early this season that he is just an AVERAGE ball player, not a future star foundation to build on in StL, and I'm sad to have to say I was right. I was one of the first to say he is a defensive liability, too, but now a lot of others say the same thing. The Cardinals need to send Walker down to AAA, and leave him there the rest of this season. Hopefully, he'll put up some decent stats, so the Cardinals can trade him. Wish StL had traded him and Matz to the White Sox for Dylan Cease, also something I suggested but was shouted down here. Now look what has happened. I don't say this to toot my horn, I'm saying this because as fans, we need to be more knowledgeable about player talent, and stop listening to and believing Cardinal's front office hype. Mo must go.

I do remember you saying last year that Walker will always be a defensive liability. In my opinion, so far this season, Walker has done his job defensively so far. But he really does need to be in AAA right now. The offense just isn’t working.

@@maguire4428 As I'm seeing it, he took out Carlson on a dumb play, that's a big negative, so I won't say he's done the job so far. I see him make a couple of highlight reel dives, but still doesn't prevent singles from becoming doubles. In that aspect, data shows him unimproved from 2023. His defensive stats so far in 2024 per savant: Fielding Run Value 43% (vs 50% being average, so Walker is below average), Range 54% so barely average, arm value 25% (way below average due to misdirection on throws, not arm strength). His overall defense in 2024 rates a 0 (better than 2023's -14 ..... however I also notice savant data for 2024 looks incomplete .... all his defensive stat value summary shows 0, that appears likely they haven't crunched data to calculate 2024 yet). As far as I see, Walker has only improved defensively from terrible to just being below average now, still a liability .... and a quick look at defensive stats continues to show he does not measure up defensively with an average MLB outfielder. Walker was demoted today to AAA, the Cardinals have been using someone else in RF for a few games lately, suggesting they did not feel he was doing the job out there. Combining that with his declining offensive stats, it is the right move. Again I say I hope he gets things going down there, so he has some trade value later this season.

Of course they lock up Marmol for a few more years. Can't watch a Cardinals game due to blackouts(I live in Mississippi),because they make billions for people just to see the game. When greed takes over everything else goes out the window. Used to watch every game,now I can't watch and we're getting killed. You would think they'd want more people watching. But nobody's gonna watch the Cardinals constantly lose. If they don't change soon we need to start trading starters. Bring up AAA to fill the spots. Maybe improve the team for next year.

Tinfoil conspiracy theory: Matz and Thompson saw how bad the offense was doing, and decided to draw the focus back to the pitching. Heck, in this exaxt game, we only scored ONE run, yet we're almost exclusively talking about the pitching and Marmol's comments again. I get it; we're not out of April yet. But 2023 is still fresh in everyone's mind, and we don't forget so easily. This is feeling like 2023 all over again. The pitching is one or two bad outtings away from crumbling. The bullpen is 50/50. The bats are almost as cold as the middle of January. NOW we're making baserunning blunders!? What the hell? The Cardinal Way needs an overhaul. BADLY.

Matz signing was a Mo mistake. Mo trying to appear he was trying to do something in FA and it again backfired. Matz has more injuries and poor outings than he ever has positive. Game 7 of any playoff would you want him on the mound? No. Matz wouldn’t be the n the MLB if he wasn’t left handed.

Back 2021 when Cardinals manager Mike Shildt was fired because the GM didn't like the way he wanted to take the team forward The birds got five gold gloves they did receive three gloves in 2022 and none in 2023. They did go to the playoffs the first year under their new manager but they did have Molina Adam and pujols. But in 2023 they were total failure so why did the GM decide that the former manager was so wrong in his view was so right but it turned out that his view was so wrong and now team is so bad.

I didnt mind Gorman going, its obvios they saw something, perfect throw. Matz changed his game with more fb up to a fb hitting team, his change ups were up not below the zone when ahead in the count if he even threw one. This game CANNOT HAPPEN! After a win like the night before, Thompson not pitching for 10 days?? Why?, Velo down ,lack of location...i am concerned with the pitching game plan with this one..pavin who!!😂 ,,Thompson ,, not being used right

Put Matz as a reliever. Hes not meant for the long game. His stuff dwindled along with his location. He always has 2 really good innings

Hey JD; I believe it’s all down hill from here. Sure it’s early, but that’s what we said last year. For whatever reason this team under achieves. Or do they?? Are they just a bad and boring team.
