Hey! Your childhood friend here , Lori. I enjoy your videos always . I never comment but I thought I would today . We ( daddy and I) always grow certain things together because of tradition and function. Corn, G90 & Silver Queen. Purple Hull peas . Daddy loves Better Boys and Early Girl tomatoes and I always plant Arkansas Travelers For Mamaw. Turnips in the fall always . I'm still into trying new to me herloom tomatoes. ( ❤ Pineapple, Dr wyche , Berkeley Tie Dye). Just started all of our tomato and pepper seeds in the cattle panel greenhouse daddy and I just built. I start enough seeds for all of us out here in Nubbin Hill . It is a love for the Earth and the life it gives, family and family traditions that fills the heart and our little farms and gardens. Thank you for letting the world see these things ( with a little humor) through your channel. 😊

Hey Lori! Not only my childhood friend but junior high and high school sweetheart! So good to hear from you; give Jim my best, and please tell Steve, Lindsey, and Cheryl "hey" for me. Your daddy always had the biggest, most admirable garden around, and will always be one of my gardenin' and farmin' heroes. Give your mama (Cheryl-my second "mama") a big hug from me.

Great video Pa. I generally grow vegetables I like to eat. Grandma and Grandpa used to plant big corn patches as well as Irish potatoes and sweet potatoes. Grandma used to plant an heirloom green bean and saved seed every year. You should do a video on your chickens and what breeds you like in your flock.

😂The three stooges should be banned for at least 15 min just for not checking out your other videos. I agree with all of your plant selection steps. But I am one that like to trial different varieties any different crops. I have difficult soil to say the least (very wet) so my family’s all time favorite varieties would not work in my garden. I had to find new things. I second your opinion on kohlrabi and broccoli, even though I plant both. Broccoli takes up too much space to produce only one basic family meal per plant. I still plan it because you can’t eat the leaves and the currently I have garden space. Kohlrabi just looks interesting and it comes in purple 😊. This year‘s new crops are leaks and parsnips. By the way, I absolutely love your red butter beans. I have a pint jar of them saved and they will be going in the ground as soon as it’s time.

Great video Pa Mac. Grow what you like to eat but don't be afraid to try some of the other foods grown and raised around you. You do a fantastic job entertaining us and sharing your Faith, Family , and Farming skills with your everyday actions and videos. Fred.

Great pep talk for Spring planting! I agree 💯, especially the simpler is better part, and the healthy life part like our forebears. In the words of Charles Atlas, famed bodybuilder, " The more you do with what you have, the more God will give you to do with."

I thuroughly love gardening, but struggle devoting time to it,especially weeding and cultivating. Ive grown a myriad of stuff in the past, but i think this year im gonna tryin keep it simple and neat. It wont make my wife happy, but im thinkin of limiting myself to 3 or 4 different crops instead of a dozen or more. Thanks for reminding me it was time to get diggin😂

I'm a pepper freak, lol! I have 10 types starting. This year I cut down to 5 types of tomatoes. For something different I'm building up a medicinal garden...toothache plants are started. I want to know why I can eat peas just fine, but regular beans tare me up!

As a child my family grew what is called rice peas which were a tiny white pea. Like lady peas but smaller. No one kept that seed and I can't find it any where.

Thanks for another great video! Been learning a lot from your show and I'm very grateful for the work you do. Im planning on homesteading soon and was hoping you could recommend a booklist for knowledge related to all things farming. Planting, storing, animal husbandry, traditional methods, weather, etc. Would you consider a video detailing some literature you recommend? Thank you! Chris

My beautiful mother loved to garden, she perused those seed catalogs greedily.😂 As for me, I posses a "khaki thumb," meaning there are some plants I can grow, mostly roses, as they are hard to kill.😏 As for veggies, I love to eat maters, tomatillos, peppers, pickling cucs, bush type summer squash, peas, green beans, radishes, broccoli, cauliflower, and lettuces of all kinds. My husband grows the veggies, I weed, water, harvest, and cook 'em up. I don't particularly like beets, but I think I might grow them for their tops! I also want to try watermelon and pumpkins, not sure we have enough room for them though. Thanks Pa Mac!❤

@@farmhandscompanionMany thanks for sending the info on the butter bean although you suggested we come up to Arkansas to purchase it. We'd love to but we're busy on the homestead this time of year and we really don't drive that far by ourselves any more. The roads are just too busy for us quiet country homesteaders in our 70's. We so enjoy watching you share your expertise that reminds of of our growing up years and how our grandparents and parents taught us to live. We are still learning!

Thank you for sharing what YOU like to grow in your garden. Could you please make a video regarding what I should plant in MY garden? I'm not quite as demanding as you, as I only have three criteria. I have a 5' x 10' raised garden bed. Here are the three criteria the crop you choose for my garden must meet: 1. Easy to Grow 2. Grows in zone 6 3. A harvest that can be sold for a million dollars. I am somewhat flexible on the first two criteria.
