For perfectionism: Give yourself the space for fleeting notes. These are notes that you just take anywhere when something crosses your mind or you find something you want to put down and later you go through them and turn the ones that you want to keep into permanent notes in the place where they belong like a commonplace book or journal. Have a place where you can just do shit without quality control.

I have the same issue with the Common Place. I desperately want to do it, but get stuck with what to put in it. You're comment about "who is the audience" was an a-ha moment forme! I feel like I should join a "common place notebook support group" for people who want to start, but have zero clues.😂

Biggest tip I’ve found with journaling - write what you want to write about, what’s most important to you, and do not be precious about how or what you write In it

Love the concept of reminding us who the audience is! I get in this space a lot where I don’t want to write something because it’s not good enough or neat enough. Do you carry over any incomplete tasks from one never ending task notebook to another? Love that concept.

I did carry over a few incomplete tasks once I ran out of room to write new ones. I didn't want to be jumping back and forth between two to do list books!

Thank you for this!! I like having my "planner" in Google calendar because I like the search feature. But I like having a written to-do list...your "never ending to do list" book might just be perfect for me. And I really want to start a commonplace, memory journal kind of book too, to remind myself to have fun and be grateful for the good things.

I have been commonplacing since January and love it! Anything I wonder about, am learning, find fascinating, anything that pops into my head outside my daily journal goes into it! It's so random and big and chunky because it's just for ME! And it reflects the chaos that is my mind.

it's great to see you actually making the book for yourself! On: "What should I put in my commonplace book?" there are several ways to answer this; with one of them being simply shouting random topics at you like FARMING but lettuce turnip the beet, and move on to other things like a mixed book - which can give mixed reactions just like the inclusion of a joke section many people start a book like this but often call it something else like a brain dump or junk journal (if they include physical objects rather than just throwing their thoughts all over the page) this makes it unpopular and controversial to say what I'm about to say but I'm going to answer with a variation of how I started instead of trying to be galaxy brain or whatever, use your own channel as a prompt. simply open up the videos tab and start with the oldest video and work towards the present. what you're going to do is write down a single sentence that comes to mind whenever you look at a video thumbnail and description. it could be related to the video or wow I really like eating chicken tenders lol - all you have to do is write everything down after writing down the 1000 sentences (RU-vid said 1k videos on your channel) read through what you wrote down and find some general categories while I like to stay between 26 and 52 at all times, I think at the very beginning you should grab about 80% of the info you wrote down and place it into 4 categories or sections after transferring all of that info make sure to repeat the process by going through the 20% of the original information and removing 80% of it to place in 4 new sections you created for yourself this might be sounding a bit too much like zettelkasten or personal knowledge base related workflow of thought process but remember at the very beginning we don't know if you're writing for a day, a century, who you are, passwords in one place, etc focus on the setup and the audience it's for will definitely be you haha
