As a big Dune fan, I think it is worthwhile to read the original 6 Frank Herbert novels at some point. Just ignore the various sequels and prequels written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson, as they lack any of the depth of the originals. As for other reading recommendations, a sci-fi novel I'll always suggest is The Player Of Games by Iain M. Banks, which is one of his "Culture" novels. I'm amazed it hasn't been adapted as either a film or a tv series yet (his first Culture novel, Consider Phlebas, was supposed to be adapted as a tv series this year but got shelved for unknown reasons?).

Thanks for the suggestion! I plan on reading the rest of dune and now I will definitely steer clear of the prequels and sequels for dune. Also I just read a plot summary for the Player of Games and it looks awesome! I will definitely check it out!

Just found your channel from your game of thrones video and I have to say I love it! Your editing style is cozy and friendly, and your books reviews are really insightful and thoughtful. I like how you compare tropes to classic movies! If you’re enjoying A Song of Ice and Fire I’d recommend Robin Hobb’s work for more political fantasy. There are several trilogies, I’d say start with Assassin’s Apprentice!
