Pinned comment for updates: #1. The cosmetic IS the legendary sword of shadows. No new cosmetics. #2. You do not have to choose the item right now. As long as you claim the box you can bank it for whenever you decide. Don't rush if you aren't sure! #3. I forgot to mention that the cloak of the mountain is also good for a 3-piece augment set for spell DCs, so that's also an acceptable take.
Nice to have you back!!! Just want to throw you some appreciation, I refer ALL the new players I recruit to DDO to your videos for that best tutorials for beginners. Once again, for your excellent thorough and concise explanations of DDO new content and player beneficial impacts, they're appreciated.
Wow! This randomly popped up on my feed! People are still playing this game? It’s been so dang long! This game was my favorite back in the day! Wonder if my characters are still on there!
I just got into it like 2 days ago myself. I had tried it when it was new but never got into it. Made a new account though since all my old details are lost to time. Not that I had anything on the old one. Just a half orc in the tutorial zone.
Thanks for the confirmation. I was tempted to grab the hammer but noticed it looked worse than the other items. Just needed someone to confirm things. I was correct in my assessment even as a new player that the sword is the obvious pick. Just wish it was an axe or hammer or something. Swords are kinda boring.
Hmm I played ddo for a few years now and I gotta say the cloak only sucks because it's level 32, but not many items in the game give unconciousness range so if one builds for example an alchemist 20 with weighty asset + this cloak they can go down to negative 1500~ hp, depending on other items which sounds partially nuts. Like imagine your teammates face as they see you still being alive at -1300hp and just being like "I will be okay! Lol!" And many items you recommended were recommended for cosmetics. I for example had flightfoot greaves, sword of shadows and basically nearly everything from the top picks you mentioned. I think the cloak id not that bad, it also provides a profane bonus which is not a bad one either.
Vanguard DPS isn't terrible, but it is behind other styles. Having a shield does add a lot of defense, and shield stun is one of the best stuns in game, so it's a trade off for sure.
Granted it's relatively easy to get but the thing you overlooked about the Dethek Runestone is stone paws - if you're playing an animal form druid & want the extra defensive capability, it'll give you an extra +2W to make up some of the difference in damage vs. a 2hander.
Was thinking of getting a second SoS since I turned mine into epic, but I almost have enough runes for another one. Thanks for the vanguard shield recommendation, was thinking of doing a vanguard but I never raid so thats an easy pick!
I don't raid at all. I got my own SoS way back when it was in another box. I even got two. Epic-ified the other one :) Thanks for the shield suggestion. Now, not that I'd normally consider playing any kind of build that uses a shield, but *if I did*... Small note for Disciplinator. Electrical Lash is rather unique as a shot type. Electrical Storm items USED to have the AoE functionality, but the runearm patch considered this a bug and remove it (RIP my long range Arc Welder). As an arm cannon aficionado, I'll at least point out the uniqueness. Shame it's so low level. Now, I don't have one, and I won't take it, but I *would* want a higher level Rune Arm with that shot type though!
They are not bad on their own, but Duality (Ravenloft), Dinosaur Bone (Isle of Dread), and Fetters of the Forgewraith (Sharn) are all better, so I just can't recommend the wraps. Especially since the dinobone are accessible just doing the adventure zone.
Poison immunity makes Eon not great. Would alchemist Contamination allow Legendary Virulent Poison to work? Fairly sure poison 7 would, but that’s not really very important by comparison. Anyone tested to confirm? If you want to help DDO make more money, you could transfer a toon from another server for 2495? DDO points and get more than one reward. I don’t think it’s broken but an option for when raids are not available, like Wayfinder
Hey strimtom just saw something really cool in magus of the eclipse ED the mantle can effect your summons so would it make a summoner build doable using it at endgame? Considering you use chill aura from the same tree would let you do 1d6+6 cold and negative damage per caster lvl every 6 seconds
The issue is that while it does apply to both you and your pet, it won't apply both at the same time to an enemy. So if you and your pet are next to an enemy they only get hit once, not twice. If it did apply every aura at the same time that would be amazing. Army build lets go
Hmm I was thinking of taking the claws of the balor as I don't have any decent endgame wraps. Could anyone explain why they are so bad? The video doesn't really go into detail, I'm assuming it's just because cursed maelstrom is bad?
It's basically that there are better handrwaps, being Attuned Dinobone, Fetters of the Forgewraith, and Duality. If you have none of these and don't own Isle of Dread, Sharn, or Ravenloft, then Balor is a fine pick for wraps. But the raid isn't terrible difficult and people run it regularily, and since the handwraps aren't as good as older ones they get passed along in raids a lot.
Yep! The dinobone especially is better since as long as you own isle of dread you can get all the crafting materials running around in the adventure zone so it's really hard to justify picking this item over others.
I wish sireth was here, I understand why it's not. Not a draconic raid. But I don't own the content to get it and it feels like nobody ever runs the raid, I never see flagging LFMS or LFMS for the raid itself
Why do you say that Nightshard is not useful and the Sharn and Dino scimitar is better? Nightshard is the ONLY scimitar with Identity Crisis and The Dino effect is not the same.
Cobalt Guard went crazy 7 years ago, but not so much anymore. The stats aren't terrible and they are a good defensive boot so they can definitely work in the slot. Vecna and sharn both feature very appealling insightful and quality magical sheltering items so it is hard for me to recommend the cobalt guard but they do come up as a good choice from time to time. The hardest thing about them is that they come from Riding the Storm out which is an annoying raid so I can't recommend them in a modern build, but it's not the worst pick from this box if you need defensive boots. These are the only boots in game with these stats though so they can fill the antimagic niche. Not a bad item per say, but those stats can be accessed elsewhere. The other stats, dispelling guard and quelling strikes, are mostly useless. Neither will apply when you need it because of their low proc rate, instead applying most often when you don't.
Thank you very much for your respond. Quelling strikes and dispelling guard are so bad? You save me, because I was thinking of a "dispelling" tank. In regard to the another stats there are plenty other better options. for sure.
All main armour pieces in DDO are part of Armour sets. Getting the armour set bonus is really important, so every armour piece in the game without a set bonus is effectively useless since you give up way too many stats.
I feel like these gear videos would be better if you were to assume the viewer DOES NOT RAID. It's ridiculous to assume everyone finds the best gear as easy as you do dude... For example I run with one other person... how often do you think we run raids? And when we open chests how likely is it that we get actually useful gear? Let me say, it's NOT F'ing often to either one. So this trash comment that "this is bad because you can easily get a better thing by doing x Raid" is SO elitist and non-inclusive... you should be canceled for being noobie-phobic 🤣 just playin' about that, but seriously it IS elitist and kinda ignorant to expect of viewers.
A lot of the items on the list are literally garbage. They might look appealing, but you can find better quest gear than most of the raid items on this list. I think it's fair to warn people about poor stat items or items that are eclipsed by other things. There is no universe where I recommend the items in the garbage section to anyone, because they are mostly old items that aren't relevant in todays world.
@@Strimtom oh it's fair to warn people but saying it's bad because of something weak, like 'you can Easily replace it" just isn't true. Like, I've been trying since sharn came out to land an Epic Replendent Fury Orb, gotten repeats of everything else in that quest, but not ONE RF orb.. now the chain is like 3 expansions out dated and I never got the orb I worked for. that is regular Gear that according to you is "EASY" to get. lmfao I don't intend disrespect, but I've seen this here a few times and I think it's too easy to forget the struggle of those that don't run in full parties and rarely run raids. You can't ask 5 other people to trade the item you want and increase the odds of landing it by 4 or 5 times, if you don't run with a full party, and you can't get the other raid items if you rarely run raids. Just understand that you have been SUPER powerful for a LONG time, and you run with a group of other long-term powerhouses (or so it seems from your videos) It may skew your perspective on what's bad or how hard somethings can be to pull. It FEELS like it does. I've seen you say a particular item is easy to get MANY times but it's rarely accurate in my experiences. Again, no disrespect intended, I've spent many dozens of hours watching videos from you and a LOT of your advice is good and has helped greatly, but this particular subject (of gear hunting) seems to be something where the so-called "elitism" is maybe tainting your perspective a little. you should spend time trying to get gear solo, WITHOUT astral shard re-rolls, THEN come back and tell us how easy it is. lol
@@evilj1x733 Not to disrespect you either XD... but this game heavily leans towards groupplay and can be extremely punishing solo. It is more fun to be in a bigger party, covering different roles and laughing together when strange things happen. My experience with farming an item has been this: people will straight up just join your LFM, help complete and pass the item you want if they get it - even if it has little or no benefit to do so. If that hasn't happened, or people are rude - then you are clearly running with the wrong group. (Shout out to Ghallanda)
@@chickenmobile yah, I agree, honestly. tbh I personally have issues with grouping because I have severe anxiety and after a session with a group I'll be off-game for a few days recovering from phantom stress. it's annoying af. I wasn't suggesting group play wasn't the way to get gear, I was trying to say that the way gear was being determined to be trash or not was predicated on some imo bs. it's not bad because other gear is better it's bad because such and such stat is bad. Because many people might spend years trying to get the other part that is better. and never have even second-best in slot because they're being told "Best in slot or it's trash".
I don't know what to tell you. The example you give here, the Legendary Resplendant fury, has the same drop rates as all the other items in the game. All items in this game have a 10% drop on normal, 16% drop on hard, and 33% drop on elite. The issue comes up when it comes to farming is that the item is chosen after the game decides whether you get a drop or not. Even if you run elite, and get the 33%, it's still a 1/5 for the game to choose the orb, which comes out to 1/15 chance to loot it. But that's literally the base drop rate in the game. Call me elitist because I think that Hardcore is too easy, or because I think the only challenging thing about raiding in DDO is lag and not the actual mechanics (Edit: Except too hot to handle, but that raid is still one of the worst offenders when it comes to lag), that's fine. But I don't control the drop rates! Like, I literally can't give other advice. If I review items in comparison to randomly generated loot than every item ever added as a named item looks like a god tier item. And named gear has the above mentioned drop rates. DDO doesn't have a lot of inbetweens, with the exceptions being challenge loot (extremely outdated) or festival loot (which isn't available all the time so I would feel pretty bad recommending someone get a halloween item in august). I don't like the drop rates in DDO an I have complained they are too low. I've wanted them to change them to 33% on normal, 40% on hard, and 50% on elite, with raid drops being 33% on normal, 66% on hard, and 100% on elite. I've had conversations with the executive produce in person about this issue, and it's just that we don't agree on how the item drops should work. I don't recommend using astral shards and I don't buy them myself. I use open groups and just ransack chests and if I don't get the loot I want I swap character or play another game. I don't know what else to say.
wish they would stop with the btc shit, my reincarnation cashe can't get any bigger or my bank starts bugging out because of the sheer number of btc items... it's annoying af and driving me away from the game not too it.
