Excellent advice. I spent 10 days in France mainly in Paris. Thats how I dressed like the local people - chic, comfortable and effortless. I continue to dress like Parisiennes when I return to the US.

Parisian style is the best and the one that makes me feel who I am. Every time I visit the city, people mistake me for a French. I always think that you must always respect the traditions and style of the city or country you visit. Paris will always have a place of privilege in my heart. I certainly enjoy your channel!

I like your simple but feminine style - this is what I associate with Parisian style. A handful of well fitting quality basics in neutral colours and some beautiful feminine accessories (I include hair & make-up in this) et voila :) I am sure you will agree that it seems simple enough, but there is a lot of behind the scenes work, which starts with: - Deciding that this is how you want to dress, sticking to it and not getting side tracked. - Discovering which neutrals and cuts suit you, (not everyone looks great n black) - Putting together a list of the basics you need for your lifestyle - not someone else's. - Reviewing your wardrobe, identifying gaps, then putting together a shopping list. - Going shopping - it takes time to shop and try on lots of clothes. - Not getting sidetracked by other items not on your list. There is so much choice out there. - Arranging alterations if needed for a perfect fit. The French inspired way of dressing is smart - a small wardrobe of elegant, feminine and timeless clothes that all mix and match, saves money and time spent shopping. Then add a few wow accessories that don't need to cost a lot and are easier to shop for. OK, I'm off now to my wardrobe to have another clear-out.

You are correct about not showing your butt when out and about wearing leggings. I am so sick of seeing Americans not following that rule. I don't want to see it when I am in my grocery store. Very nice video. Thank you.

Yes, you are right. Silk scarves elevate a look greatly. I did several courses in silk painting this year. It's a lot of fun and I like to wear them in addition to the ones I've bought ... 🌈🌞😇

Most of my favourite pieces of clothing is French. I always feel elegant wearing them, some of which are over 20 years old and still look like new! People always ask where I purchased them.❤

This is great. I will bookmark this for my 2024 trip to France. I have all these pieces and I think it will be possible to wear my coat and pack the rest in one carry-on, as I hate to check a bag and risk its being lost. I have never been in Paris when it is hot, it always seems temperate to me, and I love rain. Wonderful advice, Alice. Thank you!

I spent my whole career working in San Francisco and we had similar rules for “The City”. We could always tell who the tourists were by their sneakers, leggings, backpacks and the cheap souvenir sweatshirts they picked up here. These were because they packed only for “normal” hot weather in July or August, then froze upon arrival. We locals wore leather footwear, regular, non-athletic day clothes and trench coats, blazers or peacoats. I retired some time ago and I expect that, like the rest of the US, it’s more casual now. I don’t think the super-casualization of dress here in the US is a good thing. I’ve always preferred skirts and dresses, and they were the normal daytime attire for women until about 2000, but for some reason they’re considered too fancy nowadays. I’m older and have never found a pair of jeans that fit my straight shape even reasonably well, and I’m tired of always shopping for, and wasting money on, them. I don’t understand why they’re considered comfortable, they are the least comfortable garment ever on me. My mother couldn’t wear them, either, it’s the way we’re shaped, very short-waisted. More power to anyone who likes them, though.

Can you do a winter edition of what to wear in Paris?

I’m an American and really wish Americans would stop wearing leggings out in public as well. It’s obvious they’re not working out but instead are lazy.

So they look lovely the way you've styled them, but my fellow Americans who live in leggings and sweatpants have turned me off of them indefinitely 😂. I also just don't find leggings or anything that skin-tight to be comfortable anyway.

I want to outlaw leggings as day wear 😂. I feel like they make a person look like they are all sweaty and smelly because of the gym association but also because leggings are made out of synthetic fabric that holds onto odor and isn’t breathable like natural fibers (cotton, silk, etc). It’s also skin tight so it really is right up in the crotch area.

If I were the Queen of the USA this video would be mandatory for every single citizen here. 😂

What should we wear in summer? Linen pants or jeans? Blazer should be cotton or linen for summer?

I do not understand folk who travel and dress as if they are at home.

The Paris color scheme is horrible on me, a pale blonde. I love wild bright colors, and even get many compliments in the U.S. and Japan! I’m more bohemian designer than designer designer. It’s funny, but as I’ve gotten older, I have things I absolutely won’t wear: not because they aren’t stylish or attractive, but they are not good on me, to include man-tailored shirts, horizontal stripes, etc.
