I lived in Paris for 8 years and no one, absolutely no one French, wears a beret. It's beyond ringard. Glad that you said it.

Right?! I keep trying to tell people but no one will listen. Haha. I literally follow an account on TT though that's devoted to old French ppl in berets and it's hilarious. They look like they stepped out of a time machine.

You nailed it! Excellent. I accidentally came upon this vlog due to it popping up in my feed and was curious. I've been going to Paris solo and regularly since the mid-1970s, when I was around 19 or 20. I was last there in summer 2019. The first couple decades, I would go during the summers, but later on in either late March or April along with summers. I prefer Paris in the springtime although it's cold. As for trying to blend in due to not being a possible pickpocket target, I agree. They can be fierce. I'm lucky that I have never been pickpocketed no matter what I've worn. But, some friends who have also been going to Paris for decades have been. With one friend, the pickpocketing happened in the metro train during the hot summer. The friend knew not to stand near the doors in the metro train, but that day it was very crowded and that's where he ended up. His neck pouch around his neck and tucked into his shirt, was taken and he didn't even feel it being taken. Passport, money, gone. Thank goodness a friend was traveling with him so he had a backup plan. But, it was no fun going to the police to make a report, although he speaks fluent French, and also spending the rest of the day at the American Embassy. So, people need to secure their belongings. And the reason he had his passport with him was that he needed to use it that day. Some people leave theirs in their hotel safes. However, I don't. I had a good laugh on the part of wearing jeans in Paris. I've heard that discussion since back in the 70s. My personal Parisian friends would say that one didn't wear jeans in the city. I ignored them and wore my Levis, but styled them with either a blazer and scarf or cool sweater and jacket. Plus, they were always sent to the cleaners, perfectly pressed, always dark blue, and I made sure that they were properly fitted. Nothing baggy, faded, or ripped. As for sneakers, my Parisian friends would say..... no sneakers in the city as they were for playing sports! I wore my cool sneakers anyhow along with also having a pair of loafer-style shoes and a pair of knee boots to wear with jeans, pants, or skirts depending on the season. Then, fast forward maybe a decade or so and my Parisian friends who previously wouldn't wear either jeans or sneakers in the city were suddenly wearing both. I agree on the workout clothing situation. It's really not something to wear in the streets and I also agree on not wearing very tight and very body-revealing clothing. As for wearing color, I always wore what I wanted to wear as I'm not one to just wear subdued colors. However, I will wear black. Other than that, I need color year round. . As for the Longchamp Le Pliage, I'm a big fan. I have a lot of the leather ones in various colors and that come with a shoulder strap. And the Le Pliage folds flat in one's suitcase. I always pack the Le Pliage along with s couple other handbags, but always crossbody handbags. As for the beret situation. LOL! I pack them during late March or April trips as my head gets cold and they're easy to pack since they pack flat. But, I don't wear them as if I have either a Frisbee or pizza on my head. Greetings from Los Angeles

Oh my gosh. I’m so sorry about your friend. That’s awful. I try to warn people so often that it’s just important to blend in as much as possible to minimize the pickpocket risk. And yet, just this week I saw a man and woman with giant cameras around their necks on the way to the louvre (the metro line with the most pickpockets). So funny to hear that the same friends who said no to jeans and sneakers now wear them. I mean EVERYONE wears jeans and sneakers in Paris now; it’s the uniform. I love a good beret too, but when I see people walking in the busiest & most touristy areas with the pizza beret and matching skirt it’s a little much. Haha.

@@adrielfelise You're hilarious. I have subscribed to your channel. As for my friend, he had lived in Paris back in the day and had been there a lot and was also a very experienced traveler. But, that just goes to show one that it can happen to anyone and when it happened, he was on metro Line 1. I'm one who usually takes the buses in Paris around 90% of the time. I personally detest the metro unless I have to get somewhere really fast. A Parisian friend, born and raised, almost got pickpocketed when we were out one day, but I spotted the "Did you lose a ring?" scam. A man stopped my friend as we were walking in a residential area near Champ de Mars and started showing him a ring. I called out to my friend to walk away as he stopped to look at the ring. I was watching both the man and my Parisian friend's back pocket as I was walking a little behind my friend. He didn't even know of the scam. We escaped that situation. I've been to Paris dozens of times over 4-plus decades and the pickpocket situation is annoying. Greetings from Los Angeles

My most uncomfortable foot experience traveling: Clark knee high boots (that I didn’t fully break in) in Paris. I literally hobbled the last .5 mile back to the hotel. 😅 wore comfy worn-in ankle boots every day after.

Oh gosh. I’m so sorry. There is nothing like a bad shoe travel experience, right? I had a pair of Ugg ankle boot wedges that I hadn’t broken in that I wore on my first trip to London. Great!! Je adore Paris!!! Can u link your dark wash Levis with the cuff? Looking forward to more Paris videos!!!Parisian style v America, your impressions etc! Do u work there? Its funny you say no athleisure wear in Paris! What wd happen if you wore them? Lol wd u be arrested? Funny you discuss that. Ive been going to Paris for 50 yrs , always worn what I like never had a problem. Maybe because my American style is very French or European anyway. Love all your clothes👍 thx for breaking the stereotypical view of always neutrals, everywhere on YT, although in my 60s now I do prefer them. I use my Chanel and Dior bags in Paris still. Why not? I also carry mace 😂 ps you look great in color! That lavender jacket💜👍
@adrielfelise
@adrielfelise 2 месяца назад
My levi's jeans are linked here: shopstyle.it/l/b9yRH The only thing that would happen if you wore athleisure in Paris is that you would stand out as a tourist, which means you can expect the pickpockets to swarm you. It's no longer safe to wear your Paris or Dior etc on the metro in Paris. People will follow you. It's also not the best, if you are a tourist, to carry your nice bags with you. Again, you will be swarmed by pickpockets in most tourist areas. There are only certain neighborhoods where you will see lots of women carrying Chanel's, LVs etc.; for the most part, you really don't see it that much anymore due to the issues with pickpockets. And, with respect to the mace and pepper spray, be careful - they're illegal in France so if you used it for any situation other than true and complete self defense, you would get in trouble. It's also illegal to even bring it into France. If a group of young girls swarms you to take your money and bag (for example) it is unlikely that would be a legitimate reason to use it because they're just taking your things and don't plan to actually harm you.

hi Adriel, I am going from 29th Mar till April 6th. I was wondering if skinny jeans and over the knee boots is going to screaming tourists ? I thought over the knee boots really warm. Also shall I bring a merino coat or a trench coat?
@adrielfelise
@adrielfelise 3 месяца назад
Skinny jeans are definitely fine. If you want to blend in a bit more, I would say to go with skinny jeans & ankle boots or sneakers. Skinny jeans & over the knee won’t scream tourist (that’s definitely a look you see here) but it’s actually looking like it might be a warm spring so it’s possible it will be too warm for the over the knee boots. With respect to the coat, I think it just depends on what is warmer & if you’re often cold. I tend to feel cold often but today my lightweight wool coat was just too warm for me because I had on a coat + sweater + baselayer. Eventually I took off my coat and carried it. If you tend to feel cold more often, I would say to bring the Merino & just layer in a way that you can easily take the coat off during the warmer parts of the day if needed.
