Roman another reason other than what Andre articulated as to why those base Tacoma SR5's aren't selling is because the majority of us non-rich hard working Americans would rather spend $35,000-$40,000 on something on the used market. You can find much cooler, bigger, and better equiped trucks used for the same price or even cheeper than a base Tacoma.

@@lamesamelameI bought a 2016 Canyon 2 years ago with a manual transmission. For the past few years I was looking for a 2WD, extended cab, long box GMC Canyon at a reasonable price. I didn't want the cylinder deactivation that GM added in 2017 so I wanted a 2016. The truck I found was previously owned by a retired guy with only 80,000 kilometers on it. So I talked to the salesperson on the phone and bought it based on the online photos.

Correct me if I’m wrong! Tacoma gets its wide track from offset wheels but Ranger has special wide track suspension.

Modern vehicles have more sound deadening and inside the truck the sound is different. They could replace the stock muffler with a Cherrybomb Vortex and the Ranger Raptor will sound like a beast. I put a Cherrybomb Vortex muffler on my 2016 Canyon because it has a manual transmission and I couldn't hear the engine over the radio and traffic noise to know when to shift gears. Now when I am accelerating I can hear the engine but cruising on the highway it sounds mellow. I also gained 2 MPG by just replacing the stock restrictive muffler.

What are you talking about. All of these junk products were under Akio’s tenure. He signed off on all this turbo junk years ago, he signed of on the rebadged Mazda, Subaru & BMW crap too. Having the “Toyoda” last name is the only reason he was in the position to sink the ship. Also, moving so much production to North America, the greedy dealerships, the distribution network with unnecessary options and Toyota artificially creating scarcity in the US production numbers is the reason Toyota decrease in market share.

Toyota somehow went from best in the mid-size market to last. The new Tacoma TRD Pro already needs a refresh and price cut to keep up with the Ranger Raptor and Colorado ZR2/ Canon AT4X.

I just looked up pricing here in Toronto, Canada for the Ranger Raptor … and its MSRP starting price is $80K 😳. I looked up Trail Hunter and it’s $86K Canadian! I had no idea that’s what it costs now. I’m so glad I bought my 4Runner when I did (2022 TRD Off Road Premium) for $52.5K Canadian almost 2yrs ago.

Great show guys. I love the styling in the Ranger Raptor. I think it is easily the best looking mid sizer on the road. The others are all over styled, just hate all the pointless cuts and pockets in the GM twins and the Taco. I liked the Ranger Raptor so much I bought one. I removed the graphics on mine, I guess I just prefer more subtle styling. I also bought white. So guys keep in mind not everyone is looking for a lot of attention. lol I wanted that smooth ride, compact size, clean styled exterior and comfortable interior. Which the Ranger Raptor checks those boxes. I am V8 guy too, so I have mine programmed to stay in the quietest setting. Never heard a v6 or 4 banger that I truly felt like it sounded good and I want to hear it. lol

@@arkhsm Oh Yea, very true. the graphics are like a $795 option. I was just not patient enough to want to go through the very frustrating Ford order process, so the one I bought off a dealer's lot, had $2300 in optional wheels and stickers that I didn't want and both of which came off in the first 24 hours of having it home. Sticker all went in the trash, and wheels and tires are now in storage. LOL

I always preferred Chev because they had a more boxy or angular body style. The reason I didn't like Ford or Dodge is that they are too round or smooth. There are a couple of Raptor body kits that I like the look of. One is the Raptor Widebody kit and the other is the Raptor Prerunner body kit. But I am partial to prerunners because prerunners are not only high performance offroad trucks but most are still 2WD. I put a Cherrybomb Vortex muffler on my 4-cylinder 2016 Canyon with a manual transmission and it sounds very aggressive now.

Just dropped my 2023 Tundra Capstone for a 2024 Tacoma SR5 (Shout out Ryan @ Fred Haas) - couldnt be happier. Yes, its a cheaper and lower end truck, but the Tundra was terrible. The 4 cylinder turbo in this new Tacoma is so much more suited to the vehicle, I dont miss having the hybrid, just better for me overall. Plus its much easier to fuel and drive. I actually tried to find a Ranger Raptor and every one of these Austin area Ford dealers have them marked up *at least 10k* - and they all have one - so they must not realize those times are over. Oh well, they will learn when they go out of business I guess,

Same in DFW if you can find a Rsptor is a 10K markup. Some disclose it online but many don't. You see it after you try and make a deal. They did it with the Maverirck too with 5K.

I was fortunate to secure an allocation for a Ranger Raptor at my local dealership. Its the 3rd of 3 they got all year, at MSRP and the color I wanted in shelter green. Build is set to start in July so i cant wait! I looked at every truck in the segment for months, originally focused on the tacoma, then zr2 bison and frontier pro 4x and without any fanboy perspective.

My Ranger Raptor. had an exhaust leak at the catalytic converter that severely affected the exhaust note. It was very noticeable when next to a building, pulling into my garage or parking between vehicles in a parking lot. It began at about 500 miles and it sounded like a kid trying to make motorboat noises. Dealership corrected by replacing the gasket & clamp. Exhaust sounds great now.

I towed a popup camper in college with my 1992 Chevrolet Camaro RS with a V-8 and a 5 speed manual...U-Haul installed the hitch. I'm sure I got some looks, but my girlfriend (wife now) and I had the best time!

Hybrid systems give you more power on the highway but not better fuel economy, but you will see economy benefits in city driving. Toyota is all about the averages.

My Ranger Raptor had the same annoying exhaust sound. It made me regret buying it. Worked with my dealership to resolve the problem. It was an exhaust leak caused by a folded over gasket from the driver’s side down pipe to catalytic converter when the vehicle was assembled. They replaced the gasket & clamp and it fixed the annoying sound. It’s amazing how much the exhaust theater affects the overall feel of the vehicle.

Toyota should’ve made the hybrid an option and those tricky front seats optional for the PRO. Would’ve made it more cost competitive and realistically no one is gonna need those suspension seats.

Have a feeling that’s coming maybe next year. We still aren’t seeing manual transmission on lower models and pre runner. Toyota is cashing in on these premium models now and when sales slow you’ll see more options.

Why no ZR2 (or AT4x) talk? The ZR2 also has front and rear lockers, qualifies in the conversation, and is 6k cheaper than the Raptor while the AT4x is similarly priced.

My dad had a 59 for and he needed a clutch in it I remember putting the clutch in it. It had 3 speed transmission . I took out the 3 speed and sat it in my chest rolled out from underneath the car with the transmission on my cheat

Ford Raptor All day long.... Toyota's days of squeezing every last buck out of the American buying public are numbered. The whole ' But it holds its value ' shtick is getting to be yesterdays song.... Get rid of half the annoying safety nannies and get a decent front & rear Locker in those things that can be engaged in ANY Drive mode ...or Sink....

the problem of that TRD PRO taco is that last one is 50k, now it's 65k, that's almost 33% increase in a day! Ranger raptor is OK for 57k compared to everything else. It's kinda cheap for a raptor since even the f150 raptor is about 80k, so you pay to play raptor game.

In Canada we get screwed with the Ranger Raptor and a TRD Pro will cost you over 90k I got a Colorado ZR2 for 61k I don't see a 29k difference between them

I don’t get it. Manufacturers claim they’re going to 4cylinder turbos instead if V6s for fuel efficiency gains. But my Frontier V6 seems to get equivalent gas mileage as the others. If there is a difference, it’s very minimal.

If you have a turbo charged engine, you need to let the turbos wind down after driving, idle it for a minute. If you shut the engine off immediately after driving, the turbos often will spin for a while without lubrication which will lead to premature failure.

Not all turbocharged engines, the EcoBoost turbos have liquid cooled bearings, they they don't need a cool down.

A lot of turbos have liquid cooled bearings. You still need a cool down time after hard use like towing for example.

Interesting point about holding for the bigger trims. Perhaps if these companies are going to ask for 10k more on top of the previous price, perhaps there should be more options for the baseline models.

There's no way the hybrid system on the landcruiser weights 700 pounds. It's probably due to THERE ARE TWO DIFFERENT VEHICLES. Sure, they share the same platform but one is a big SUV and the other a truck.

I do like the live show, and I look forward to more of them. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to actually catch one live. Hopefully, I will soon. The sound was problamatic at the beginning, but it was fine after the adjustment. Having just shopped for trucks and having driven many of them, I would probably buy either a Gladiator or Nissan Frontier. My one complaint about the Frontier was the steering wheel position. I could not find a GM to test; they had just come out. I bought the Titan; I just could bring myself to downsize to a midsize truck, and I got a great deal on the Titan. I already own one Titan. Apparently, my tastes haven't changed.

if you have money to burn buy whatever you want, if you have to make payments you can’t afford it(best advice i ever heard🤣🤣) so making payments on a $100,000.00 on a 4x4 truck to go to work is not a good investment 🤪 if i’m gonna buy a truck to go burry it in a mud pit or open it up like a sarbine can on a rocky hill it’s not going to be a brand new truck on payments jmh😎

I switched to a 2.7L V6 eco boost on a door 2 Bronco from a 4.0L V6 Xterra. I was skeptical at first, but I’ve been won over by the turbo engine. You’re always going to have people kicking and screaming when things change. No way around it, don’t cater to the minority. We’ll get no where doing that.

Hello TFL, the reason why people hate changes in car is because 99% of folks are poor living from paycheck to paycheck. Businesses on the other hand have the budget to afford new tech. Also, here is what Toyota should’ve done. Kept the previous gen V6 maybe with a little update. Add the 4L TT as a 2nd option

The quick Ike Gauntlet comparison is interesting. We have a 5th gen 4Runner towing a small 4000 pound travel trailer. We are thinking about getting a 2025 Trailhunter due to the hybrid and 6000 towing. We get about 9-10 MPG towing. I know the Ike is tougher. Just wondering how the Land Cruiser hybrid would compare to a 5th gen?

I think the “value” of the Ford is fantastic, but also agree that the styling of it is way too vanilla. It just doesn’t look very special and to me, it’s rather boring. The full size Raptor and Bronco Raptor look so much better. I like the styling of the TRD Pro and the Chevy ZR2 Bison way more than the Ranger. However, the drivetrain and off road goodies of the RR are hard to be ignored.

I hate when reviewers don’t do their research… the trd pro gets 24mpg which is 7mpg higher than the raptor. They said it was only 1 mpg higher 🤦🏼‍♂️

@@TFLtalkthe non hybrid turbo is 19 city and 23 hwy-combined 21. The iforce max is 23/24 and 24 combined, I believe. 465 lb-ft of torque; more than the Raptor, which I believe you mentioned. Raptor takes 91 octane and has 20 gallon tank and gets 16/18 or 17 combined.

@Roman Not everyone CAN afford to take their vehicle to a mechanic or dealer to have their vehicle worked on. I for one enjoy working on my vehicles. Don't apply your thoughts to newer vehicles and my work skill set. When vehicles complexity exceeds my ability then hopefully I'll be dead by then and younger people will be making money to afford whatever price and experienced the vehicle replare person or place will charge. Roman you were way off base talking down about people who can or want to repair their own vehicles.

The toyota trs pro tacoma is way too expensive fie a midsized truck. The ford ranger raptor is a better deal at 57 grand. Od tge Colorado zr2 for 52 grand or Colorado bison setting up on 35" tires for 66 grand.

Guys, please stop comparing semi-truck technology to consumer products/cars. Semi-trucks are build to last millions of miles, where newer cars are not build to last. Ohh and turbo technology is not new and it already has been greatly improved, but there is no go around the physics. Higher pressure results in more power but also in more bypass and oil dilution, so maintenance becomes imperative and with 10k oil change your engine is going to be done at 100k miles, if that. That comes from a person that has owned 4 turbo vehicles. I can go on more but the people that are looking for longevity are correct for not wanting turbos (at least the majority of them).
