A dually as a daily driver is a beast. Towing... I wouldn't trade mine for the world. I started out with an F-150 and a 26' pull trailer. Every time I got passed by a transport it felt like we were headed for the rhubarb. Now, with a 40' fiver and a dually, the only time I notice a transport passing is when I hear the noise from its engine. But yes, it's a long walk from your parking spot to the entrance of the grocery store.
our "work" truck is a 95 Ram 1/2 ton, we bought it for work, not pretty no bells and whistles, standard tranny. Bought in 97, 33k miles....we have worked the crap outta it, still use it. My main bitch with Rams, at least the standard transmissions. We had our clutch replaced 3x's. It became a you did it type of thing. The last time we went in when they changed it. A crucial part in the clutch is plastic..yes freaking plastic. So a thing that actually had me stop driving it, was neither of our faults, its a Dodge design flaw. But hey, the beast is still running....Your Ram is so pretty, glad it works for you..for our RV we'll stick with our Mack.
@@SwitchItUpLife thank you. I’ve made many now! Can’t wait to see the red velvet on her! Lol all these I’m making now are for the holidays. Velvet, scuba, and crinkle with rainbow glitter.
C4YT I have close to the same truck… a White 2022 RAM 3500 Limited SRW, we ended up driving 890 miles to find it… and it replaced our 2012 exact same truck with 349,000 miles… They are Great Trucks… this is my 5th RAM…. Safe Travels!
Good info!! I like the way Shrek looks with the 2 tone black appearance from the half wrap. Considering doing that to mine, but the truck is white, and I don't see the vivid indestructible available in white.
I love our Ram 3500HD with 6.7 Cummins. I will drive it no problem but my husband does the towing. I am amazed how easily it tows the RV, stock trailer, hay trailer, or building materials.
YES! Don't listen to the salesman! Know your numbers, we almost bought the wrong truck because the salesman said "yes it will tow it....." Good video - again!
Great video and information. How dose the Dodge ride for comfort? I have fibromyalgia and long rides can make me very sore. Can’t wait to check out the spreadsheet. We currently have a 2500 GMC DH Denali diesel. It rides wonderful, we’re upgrading to a fifth wheel toyhauler. I’m hoping we don’t have to upgrade the truck too. My husband has been looking at the Dodge trucks but I’m not sure if I will be able to ride in one.😞
I bought a ram 2018 dually, when I was researching which truck to pick I learned that in order to work on the stupid ford engine, it has to be yanked out of the truck $$$. But not the ram. Plus at that time ram kicked ford in the butt for towing capacity, and power. And since I bought my ram a few years ago, I noticed ford has had a lot more recalls than the ram. I’ve never owned a ford nor a ram prior. But I do love my truck. 🍻 Oh, lol, I ordered my truck, didn’t have to run across the country looking for what I wanted.
Big Booty Judy is our rigs name. 21 Ram 3500 HO. We are from OKC and had to go out of state to Fayetteville to find ours. Main reason, no one local had a 3500 HO. Pulls our GDM 399th no problem. Growing up ram was just a work truck but they have come along way since the 80's on interior. Sheila my wife is our navigator to, I can't lol. Switch it Up!!!
Very interesting video. We will be looking for a newer truck and you video is going to make a better safe decision for next truck! Thank you taking time to do this. GREAT RESOURCE
We relied on that KYD spreadsheet too. Prevented us from buying a larger trailer that the dealer “assured” us we could tow safely - not! We now own one that’s well within the towing/payload capacity of our F-150. Thanks for sharing!
Good video 😃 chevy Silverado duramax Allison trans is better it's more commercial 10 speed dodge has great diesel but trans is not as good as it should be but every body has choices of chevy Ford or dodge what ever you like you should have looked at a medium duty truck freightliner or hdt rigs your truck can pull your rig but can it stop it safely in emergencies or on hills
Great video, the red check for Towing Capacity is comparing the Towable RV GVWR to the Towing Capacity of the truck (Top box). It was driving me nuts that all the spreadsheet would indicate is a red/green check. I just added in the calculation to see how much towing capacity I have left over. The KDY spreadsheet is awesome.
Great video. What size wheels came on your RAM when stock and what’s your payload capacity with all those high end Limited options? I have a 21 F350 dually and it came with 17s. I’m a pretty loyal Ford guy. I like the 1,150 lb ft of torque, and with a 4:10 rear end, it tows like a beast. I love the 10 speed trans. It’s always in the right gear. My payload capacity is 5,650 pounds, so trailer weight isn’t a problem. I would like to have the F450 turning radius, but I couldn’t find the trim level I wanted when I bought mine. The one area where I know the Ram smokes the Fird is the exhaust brake. Mine works well, but not even close to the Ram’s.
Great Vid guys. But you can say you still haven't got a Dodge! It's actually Fiat Chrysler Ram. Fiat Chrysler broke the trucks from the Dodge brand back in 2009 and rebranded to RAM Trucks as a separate entity. The only tie to Dodge now is that Fiat Chrysler owns both brands.
Hmmmm that's very interesting - so when I get to heaven and am talking to my dad I don't have to duck when I say we bought a RAM :-) That's great news! Thanks for that!
If u find a tryck outside ur area... u can go to a local dealer and they can do a dealer trade... I sold dodge jeep for so many years... sometimes it would 5 states away easy Peasey
@@SwitchItUpLife Won't pretend to know about Jeeps. Never owned one. I pull a 33 ft. 5th wheel with a 2019 Ram Cummins 2500. My rig dubbed "Billy"(the Ram) and "The Goat Wagon" (250RKS Flagstaff).
Spread sheets rule..🙂🙂🙂 With all your #'s you nailed it...Love Ram but that's just a personal preference. BUT....MDT or HDT is where it's at....ask you friends over at Suit Travels..🙂🙂🙂‼️‼️ Freightliner, Western Star, Volvo, Peterbilt are my favs....I was in the business back in the late 80 thru to 2002. You won't beat the ride comfort, space, braking control, fuel capacity, or the stability mover any 450 or smaller pick up. Prices are comparable to a point and fuel mileage can be almost the same. THANKS for making this very important ‼️‼️ not researching the#'s..it could be a matter of safety or desaster. One more point ....insurance company's can make your claim a living nightmare if you are over on your #'s Keep up the great work and say HI to Suit Travels for us....Rob & Wendy‼️
Very nice and informative video. Would like to know total cost of the truck. So l can plan putting money aside. Thank you guys. Happy Holidays. Phi Olanger from Detroit Mi.
Any chance you are still interested in a HD, you and J and K really make us think about it. Fun fact, the video you did wirh them in TTH was my first seeing y'all, I AM hooked
I have a 2016 Ram 1500 and I actually nailed it first try,I knew what I needed and it had it all. I got the best gearing and it's tows 11000 LBs! I'm towing a 2021 primetime avenger 16FQ and fully loaded its well under 5000LBs so I have to remember that I'm towing cuz you can't feel it at all 😉
I love my black Ram, I hate its so hard to keep clean. Next time you take the e bikes out and you have to haul them to a trail could you record loading them in the box and how you strap them down. Ours are on their way and would rather watch someone who has been thru the trial and errors faze on how to transport these. rather then scratching the s#it out of my box hauling them considering they’re pretty heavy.
Interesting aside. We chose the F250 Platinum (6.7 Powerstroke) because it checked off the numbers for us and Mrs H. liked the interior better the the others. Critical to have a happy navigator. I’m actually a very good navigator. I only did that “You were supposed to turn there” a couple of times. I kind of liked the adventure aspect of that. Not everyone does I guess.
We had a vinyl wrap company in KC wrap Shrek - we love it. And knowing it is removable for the next owner someday was a great selling point vs those we’ve seen do the spray on. Thanks for watching!
I (Willie) grew up in a Chevy family... My dad was pretty disappointed when I traded my Harley in on a F350! haha... It was a great truck though and we had a F450 for a while pulling our travel trailer and the turning radius was unbelievable, I could U-turn on a 2 lane road!! We now have a 17 Chevy 3500 drw (Smokey) now puling our home away from home and love it! I'm sure dad is smiling down on us when we drive now... 🤙
Perfect timing! Excellent video! We're shopping for a truck for our new rig and this is exactly the info I needed. Edit: Unfortunately, it looks like they removed the spreadsheet or the link in the KYD site is no longer active. Following your screenshot of the spreadsheet I should be able to replicate the calculations (wishful thinking . . . ). I still need to overcome the apprehension of having a diesel - never had one.
I believe the link is still working you just need to either hold down the link and select open in new tab or right click to make a copy. And what we have found is today’s diesel‘a are not our dad or grandpas diesels - those things were so loud lol Have a Merry Christmas 🎄
@@SwitchItUpLife Success! I was able to "Save Link As" from the pop-up menu. Excel loaded the spreadsheet after it downloaded. Plugged-in some numbers, and this helps clarify the weight issues and range of choices. Have a wonderful holiday season. Thanks!
We always enjoy your videos. Fun and informative. We chose the 2021 F450 and actually had to order one from the factory but did get to spec it out exactly how we wanted it (there were no 450s within 500 miles of our home). Don’t think you can go wrong with either choice but we really like the turning radius of the Ford but give up a little mileage with the 4.30 rear end. But ultimately love the dually because it feels more sure footed.
I'm commenting. This was a great video and I hope that I remember it in a few years when we're planning on starting our own journey. Until next time, please have blessed travels.
Thanks for the great video, great information!! What I learned in my truck quest earlier this year is that dealers don know Jack!! ALL they care about is towing capacity when in reality payload capacity is much more crucial, you'll run outta payload generally well before towing capacity! And diesel motors weigh 800-1000 lbs more than gas motors and yes that takes away from your payload capacity, again dealers have NO clue about this. I had so many salesmen trying to sell me a diesel because of course diesel tows more BUT the payload was too low. Enjoyed trying to educate them and most had no idea, shame on the manufacturers for only pushing towing capacity!
Oh gosh you are right....if I could go back and just do what my parents suggested....but then I wouldn't be here nor who I am, but I am sure I would have had less heartaches that I caused myself 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Brilliant use of spreadsheet! I had forgotten that KYD did it, thank you for re-sharing it! Question: Did you have Fiona first, then found shriek? Thank you for doing ALL the things you do to share your lives with us, it is important! 🖖🏻😘🙏🏻👍🏻
Thank you for watching - yes, we picked out what type of rig and the #'s for GVWR etc for our top 3 choices --then we went truck hunting. We had Shrek in our possession prior to putting down the $ for Fiona. Just didn't want to get stuck without a way to move our home around lol
Thx for a great video! I see a lot of misconceptions on this topic. You nailed it! The stopping capacity is so important…never ever trust salesmen…do your own research! Good advise.
Sexy Trucks have Hips 😜 We have a 21 Ram. It's a Tradesmen but came with a ton of options. 50gal fuel-360cam-auto rear air suspention-intergrated trailer brake-duel alternaters with 400watt inverter with incab and rear bed 110ac outlets. That's just a few of the options. We are taking delivery of our Alliance Valor 40v13 next week on the 16th. We chose the Executive Gen-Y hitch to keep the bed available also 👍
Shouldn't you be able to put the 4.10 gears installed with the taller tires should provide better performance and fuel mileage? Ford fan here. king Ranch F450 4:30 gears but the RAM outdoes the Engine brake hands down. Everything is preference. Ot a Volvo 760? Also BTBRV channel. Big Truck Big RV is not bad. Nice set up!
Love Ram trucks. We use KYDs spreadsheet and got a Ram 3500 HO single rear wheel. More power and towing capacity than I need. Also we flew to Idaho to pick it up. It was $15k less.
Great video! Great info! Thank you for sharing good information. We knew the size of our coach first. Then did research on what we needed to tow it. Found our truck purchased it and 3 months later purchased the rig. We didn’t make the mistake that so many do of putting the cart before the cart. Safe travels.
Hey Bruce, thanks for watching - we have found that the 50 gal tank works for us. We don't travel that many miles from spot to spot, so we haven't yet run into a situation where we would need a larger tank. Some might but have not found that in our situation. Well....yet :-)
Y’all did a very good job at explaining the details of towing. I’ve seen several other videos on towing and this is the best one I’ve seen. One more thing, do you know why the name was changed from Dodge to Ram? Because when you look up dodge in the dictionary it says to “avoid”. They’re still Dodges to me. 😝
We also have the 3500 Ram Dually with the HO engine but with the 4:10 rear. Love the truck, mileage isn't as good as yours (probably your gearing), we are still living with the tiny rims (why do they do that?) added the fuel tank/tool box combo which gives us 50 additional gallons which has been awesome. Since dealers have to post the Vin number for vehicles, we were able to use the VIN Decoder to quickly determine which vehicle had the configuration we needed to tow our toyhauler - it was ALOT of work to find the right truck - but happy with what we have. Who knows many a HDT for the next truck? LOL!
@@byronwilkerson7018 Hey Byron, We got the RDS 74026PC which is the 50 gallon that fits under our tonneau cover. Has the toolbox that can be opened from either side. Got it at Northern Tool. Easy install and works great for us. Hope that helps.
