Especially since the next coach, if the USSF chooses to change, can choose between “proposing a beautiful game” or “winning even with a boring game plan”. Fans today just want someone else. I defended Berhalter until the 2022 World Cup by saying that we needed to give him at least a full cycle so we could see what he wanted to do with the team. The game against the Netherlands showed his limits as a coach. He never has a plan B. Making high crosses when your players are 8 inches shorter than the opposing central defenders is stupidity but he continues and persists. For 2 years he didn't learn from his failures. The way he threw Reyna to the press for a locker room discussion is unacceptable. The team's failures is a "we" and the coach is the first to have to take responsibility.

Fundamentally, the USMNT is comprised of players who have spent many hours doing/playing soccer-related activities (drills, trainings, played in games). We lack soccer players. When I watch Columbia, Argentina, etc I see teams that are comprised of players. Players that can pass, move, think so that they can string 9 consecutive 1 touch passes together that maintain possession of the ball, break lines and lead to high quality scoring. Oh, and they also know how to defend. Our progress as a nation in soccer is a mirage.

Not sure Berhalter is solely to blame, but he sure as hell hasn't done anything to improve things. Under Herdman and now Marsch, the Canadian national team has started to develop a real identity. We are not nearly as deep as the US, but we at least have a cogent idea of how we want to play and how we need to play to be successful. We have a long ways to go, clearly, but at least we have a map. I feel you need a manager who has a vision for how the US needs to play, somebody like Panama's coach, for instance. If you truly understood Brian and Kacey , why is your position on the matter not taking any if that in account? Just wanting something to happen does not make it always a feasible option. The reason why it appears we were completing more passes in the final 3rd was because Gio was in the final 3rd. If only Gregg used him at the 10.

The USMNT needs a coach who is not going to be their friend. They need a coach who is going to give them constructive criticism for a win as much as he does for a loss. The problem is Berhalter wants to be a likable coach. That doesn't cut it and this was the problem when you have players telling US Soccer, "Hey, I like this coach because he's nice." No, this guy's time ran out after the 2022 World Cup. Berhalter has gotta go, now.

What’s so crazy is the job is now in my opinion less desirable than in 2019 or right after the Netherlands loss in 2022 since then all of the drama between Reynas and Berhalter only to hire him back. Then we get embarrassed in the friendly against Colombia and now this. The job definitely feels more like damaged goods now with a weird radioactivity around it which is a corruption in US Soccer. We can absolutely still upgrade the manager but that is not saying much. Just gotta pray at this point

the whole "what if we can't get someone else better" mentality is why you ended rehiring Berhalter. And guaranteed if you say that, and Berhalter underperforms again, you have no right to say we need a better manager again, because that is your fault

"the love of the crest"... I wonder if that's because half the team were born and raised in other countries, but had one parent or grandparent who was American? Maybe if we stop recruiting foreigners to play for us, we'll have the cohesion and fire that seem to be lacking?

This team doe not have the quality to win consistently against high quality teams when it matters. You can fire the coach but a great coach with a mediocre group of players will result in more disappointment. It isn’t the player’s fault. It is the federation and the media who have hyped this team up with no justification. Nepotism in coach and player selection is the problem.
