I’m so confused how tf is an alien supposed to figure that out?
@Charles-yi3mx
@Charles-yi3mx 3 года назад
The message uses a lot of math and science, which is probably the only things that are universal. (One is one and hydrogen is element #1 no matter where you are.) A very smart alien might be able to figure it out. If instead we tried to use language, they'd have basically have no chance of figuring out anything because they don't know English.
@olbradley
@olbradley 3 года назад
If an intelligent alien race were to find this it likely wouldn't take long for them to decode the message. As it would be extremely obvious that it is not natural and that it was created by some other civilization and the first thing they would use is math to decode it since math is universal. Once they realize how to decode it using math it won't take long at all for them to read the message.
@lonestarr1490
@lonestarr1490 3 года назад

@@lonestarr1490 or that they see and use math the same way we do, because while math is universal, humans created their own way to portray it. The same goes for the periodic table, smart aliens might have something similar, but they could have categorised it in another way The best way to understand what i mean is i think how we measure things. As an example,Something has it's own height, and it never changes, but humans measure it in different ways. Someone will measure it in centimetres, and someone in feets or inches. We don't know how aliens do it.

Well, they just need to know binary code to read the message. However, the message is filled with numbers that even a great genius could not figure out. If I showed you : 12 - 30 - 3. @dantnad
@dantnad 3 года назад
@@Croz89 Still, most probably we'd figure it out translating it to our current knowledge, which translates into our daily life, not theirs, therefore creating a bias with a high chance of not decoding it correctly. @Croz89
@Croz89 3 года назад
@@dantnad I think it's unlikely. It's not really a hello or a go fuck yourself, just a "this is who we are, and this is where we're from". And really any civilisation advanced enough to come here Is going to understand the concept of cultural misunderstanding, even if in some extremely convoluted fashion the message seems offensive to them. I doubt it an entire planetary population with the necessary physics equations to even build a working radio receiver would get it pretty quickly. If we were to get one publishing it on the internet with a $1k cash prize and I bet it would be claimed in under 24 hours.

War is a primitive instinct, if there is a civilization out there that exists out there that is far superior than us they’re most likely not interested in engaging in something that probably has no benefit to them

According to Lt Data in "Night Terrors", a message of atomic elements from an alien always communicates a list of things the alien needs. Therefore, I expect we'll be receiving a transport tanker filled with DNA soon.

Do they actually think that the aliens will actually understand this?
@olbradley
@olbradley 3 года назад
