I love how you guys don’t cut a ton out and leave the real real stuff in. It’s so much more personable than over edited aesthetic content and I appreciate that. I trust your reviews and opinions more because they feel authentic.
Just randomly came across this video today and gasped at the last book. I just finished The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry a couple of hours ago and LOVEEEEED it. I fully agree, it’s my new favorite book about books and I loved Zevin’s writing. Also was already planning on reading Kindred and Girl, Woman, Other next month… feels like a perfect fit!!!
Didn't all of us strangers the film just break you? Oh my goodness, I was crying so much! Girl woman other i absolutely adore. Read it twice. Even better the second time. Slaughterhouse 5 - I forgot the plot, but all I can remember is "and so it goes" over and over again which drove me crazy!! I'm having a bit of a meh month at the mo, hoping autumn will get better!
Always love watching your wrap ups, you two always have such interesting thoughts! Can’t wait to read AJ Fikry this fall, I’m glad to hear that it has fall vibes! Kindred definitely sounds heavy, but a worthwhile read. I love Little Women so I added March to my TBR! And wow, My Year of Rest and Relaxation sounds like… something else 😳😂 Also, thank you for getting “Take A Break” stuck in my head haha!!
Don't worry -- it was in my head for the rest of the day! Kindred is definitely worth it. I finally saw the Greta Gerwig version of Little Women after this, and now I need to read March, too!
I’ve thought so many times while reading books set in the antebellum south how it must be for Black people to read books about slavery. I thought Kindred was incredible, and it definitely got to me, but I’m sure not as much as it did the two of you. I’m sure it was a profound experience. Girl, Woman, Other is incredible too, my favorite book from that year. You guys have had an amazing reading month!
Just considering how people of color might experience a book like that is a sign of awareness, empathy, and care that I appreciate! I'm excited to get into Girl, Woman, Other eventually - jon
Great updates! Many more reasons for me to pick up Girl, Woman, Other and also many more reasons for me to not pick up My Year of Rest and Relaxation 😅 Also, great points about Kindred! It is recommended a lot without any content warnings and that book is very intense and heavy, so definitely important for people to know that going in.

I watched All of Us Strangers late last year and it also destroyed me. I really need to read Keegan very soon. Same thing for Slaughter House Five as I own that and I've heard it's an American classic. I read Red White and Royal Blue in 2021 when it was much buzzier mostly enjoyed it. I've also seen the film and it was okay but I prefer the novel. I was slightly hurt at namesake Jon not liking My Year Of Rest and Relaxation cause I really enjoyed it back in 2022. Twas in my top ten at the year. I'd never read lit fiction in that style and Mosfegh's narrator was so singular and is probably one of the most memorable characters I've read in fiction. And yes, she's very mean and terrible to Reva and I'd never be like that to people but I found the voice humorous to an extent and I wonder what it says about me😭It's 3am here in Nigeria and as always, it's nice to see a vid from you guys.
thanks for another great comment! I knew my take on My Year of Rest and Relaxation would be a little wild, but I do agree - I probably won't ever forget the main character haha
The Japanese author, ( because I can not spell his name!) Is quite an hypnotic author, he REALLY does linger in the heart and mind. I would LOVE to meet him, and try and find out what makes him tick.l plus HOW is he so ENGLISH, and not, A fascinating walking talking conundrum, with one neck of an imagination.
