This (long-term, daily, multi-season driven) kind of review is seriously needed for anyone seriously considering a relatively expensive car. Most of us make other sacrifices in order to afford purchase. We can’t afford to be surprised by lack of reliability, expensive repairs or very high maintenance costs. Thank you.
@@davidl922 and the probably with people like you is you say stuff like this that is just inherently ignorant. Most of these people aren’t buying it for the “rich look”. It’s because these vehicles are so fun to drive. For others it’s their dream vehicle regardless of what others think of it. Many corvettes for example are known as mid to high end sports cars (c8 may be considered an entry super car) that people actually drive. Meaning they can daily drive it and not necessarily just a car you bring out occasionally just cause it makes you look of higher status. Not just a garage queen, people put miles on these things and they love every second of it. That’s the real reason they get these cars. I understand some may buy the car for looks but that’s just not always the case with “people in America”
@@YSoAggressive i'll buy cars like this for the looks. and for the driving. and for the fun. and for the handling. and for the uniqueness. and for what it stands for. and of course for the god damn awesome sound.
This car is basically a Ferrari in performance that sells at 70% off and doesn't hit you with a 5-figure bill for an annual service. That's a hell of a sports car.
Carlos is one of the best yes. I like the way he talks about cars. He has worked to Motor Trend before and there are quite a videos with hin in youtube.
One thing that has always been a Corvette product objective has been daily usability. Except for versions or options that are high-performance oriented (specially tires), any Vette was able to handle a Michigan winter and trips to the store. As far as GM is concerned, it's still a Chevy. Given this version's world-beating performance envelope, though, it's a actual miracle! This is what happens when GM puts their best on the job. Thanks for these in-depth reviews, Carlos. This kind of info is the most valuable of all.
I gotta be honest, the usability angle is actually one of the things I'm not sold on with the C8. I own an old C4 (damn near the only Corvette I could afford at my age), and that thing's rear compartment fits honest to god full-size suitcases like it's messing around. At one point, I drove a couple miles from the tire shop with two rims and *two full wheels* in the cabin, which it handled - less than gracefully, perhaps, but still. This car is still usable, even as a daily, and with the front axle lift it even has a one up on mine - but I still feel it's much more compromised than the C4 through C7 gens (C4-C6 especially) where you could actually fit half a young adult's life into the car.
hahaha Corvette's have never been remtoely usable in winters with their extremely heavy front ends, rear-wheel drive, antiquated suspensions, often high power output, summer traction tires, lower ground clearance,... what part of these things make it ideal in winter? This interation being mid-engine will certainly help matters but your assertion is far off from the truth
@@slowery43 Corvettes had perfectly modern independent suspensions since 1963, and apart from the big-block C2s and C3s, always had a decently balanced weight distribution. And all recent ones have limited-slip differentials, usually clutch ones - which flat out do not permit single-wheel spins. Of course, they're not going to be SUV-strong in winter, but FOR. A. SPORTSCAR. they are more than adequate.
I have #849 for 2021 . It's a yellow HTC , 2lt , with mag ride and front lift . I have the performance exhaust. I love my car. I live in arkansas . I have had no issues with my car . I took it form my home outside of Little Rock to Branson Missouri . I got an average of 30 mpg the whole trip . I have nothing bad to say about my car.
Well done, C&D crew. I had fears that the new C8 would be a problem child from the get-go because of how much was new but thankfully (at least in this case) that doesn't seem to be true.
And don't drive it in winter like these idiots do and you won't get the bent rims and underbody damage that they had to repair. Most of the repairs are because they didn't drive a Tahoe in the winter, like most people are going to do. Car and Driver does because they are a car review pamphlet and that is what they do, review cars............
Did the Corvette owners school in Nevada in August with 100+ degree days. No problem with the air conditioner, you just had one go bad. 14,000 miles in 1.5 years and its not my commute car, just our fun car. The school heavily recommended never run the car on the streets with suspension on track setting, they may be what bent your wheels. Great review.
Wheels should be designed to handle the weight and speed of the vehicle and also account for Michigan potholes, of which there are millions. One bent wheel is normal here and there. Four bent wheels is not. Unless the car ended up airborne at speed. My Bimm 1-series is known to have heavy and weak aluminum wheels. I have personally been sideways on gravel roads beyond 80mph in this car, This car has at least 3,000mi of gravel road use. And it has been out beyond 130mph, 7K rpm top of fourth into 5th on 2-lane blacktop. I have hit gargantuan potholes in the rain at night. The tire shops have gouged the wheel paint with their machines, but I have never experienced a bent a rim. These Corvette wheels are inadequate for the cars intended purpose.
What a pleasure to see your review, Carlos. you have a very balanced and subtly humorous delivery that impressed me back in 2015 when you reviewed the sublime green challenger hellcat. Three hellcats later I finally have parted company with Dodge opting rather for the ram TRX. I really value these videos you put out. It gives me an appreciation for other vehicles when I see them.
As an Ohio resident, I would definitely own a Corvette and drive it most of the year (not in winter though). I plan on getting a Stingray Z51 as a retirement gift to myself when the time comes.
My 2020 has had zero issues. My highway millage is significantly better. At a constant 75 mph, I regularly get 30-31 MPG - the onboard computer says my best average was 37mpg, but I have no idea how or where. ( it’s recorded over 50 miles)
God presenter. I love how you daily the car all year round. Beautiful car. $80,000 I think the price is nice seems fair. I would definitely consider getting one of these. I live in UK and these cars are super very rare in the UK (and likely sell for a large premium).
Would you be willing to share your experiences with speed bumps, steep driveways, etc? I totaled a car once hitting road debris, so I am paranoid about getting a low car! :/
There are many auto reviewers but Carlos and Johnny really take reviews to another level. Driving a corvette in the winter is like parking your Rolls-Royce in a parking space at your local grocery store eventually it won't end well.
This C8 Corvette is a very beautiful car, modern, sporty and can be used every day reasonably without any restriction, reasonable in terms of price (in USA) and very competitive in comparison with European similar car (Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes...). You are lucky in USA to have such an exceptional car which probably will be not accessible here Europe where we promote mainly electric cars and where our European bureaucrats decided to stop the manufacturing and the selling of thermal vehicles at the date of 2035. Excellent video and very relevant analysis. Many thanks.
Reasonable in terms of price? You think that dealers are selling these cars for sticker price? Ha! Oh, you're serious. Let me laugh even harder...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA.....
@@MrSloika I spoke about "reasonable price" in comparison with the price of similar European cars found here in Europe. Of course, this C8 is a super car and a price 80 kUSD appears to me "reasonable" in comparison with what we see in Europe for this category of cars. Furthermore, technically speaking the C8 is really up to date in terms of embedded technologies and it is a very beautiful car.
@@STohme The 'sticker' price (retail price) is 'reasonable'. Cars in the US rarely sell at their sticker price. I don't know how it works where you live, but in the US a car dealer can charge whatever they want for a new car. I can guarantee that not a single C8 Corvette is rolling off the dealer's lot for sticker price. Because of supply chain issues, even ordinary cars like Toyotas and Hondas are selling for thousands of dollars over sticker.
im buying my 2021 C8 3LT this week, and this video really helped me! luckily I have a full 5yr/90k warranty on the car (cosmetic & mechanical) so I don't have much to worry about, but thankfully there isnt much to worry about
@@TOP-SECRETCLOWNBUSINESS None. lve had it for a year and half now. i love it. it turns heads everywhere, one of the fastest cars on the road, great for daily, if you get the convertable, the trunk space is incredible, the mpg is great. no problems isssues on any part. only thing i wish is that it was a bit louder but that could be fixed..if you have a chance, grab it. i love mine.
@@TheDeadPixelShow thanks man I was just laying in my bed thinking about blowing my brains the f*** out.... Wanting to get a c8 stingray is like one thing I want to do before I die... So I've been holding out no lie.
Great review, got mine c8 5 months ago and couldn't be happier and now just ordered Victor racing Smart active wing so I expect to be unbeatable on the street.
I currently own a C5 corvette, i expected it to have some expensive repairs, but for the most part the most expensive things i’ve had to fix was a column lock relay issue and that was 600$ and then i bought new wheels for 1400$. Besides that, i’ve had no real problems with the engine or the transmission (manual) I have had problems with weather stripping. and getting parts to replace it. (Thanks Biden) But for the most part. The cars been good to me for almost 4 years and i’m ready to upgrade to either a c7 or 8.
GOOD VIDEO!!! Honestly, a lot of people are driving cars that in the 90s would had been considered a supercar, or drive what could be consider a classic vehicle, but don't realize nor appreciate what they have. Truthfully I was not a fan corvette until seeing a C8/C7 grand sport, but will be buying one for it may be the last V8 sports car on the market, keep it as a collectible and drive it on car meets. I'm still doing a corvette engine swap for Jeep Wrangler, that should be fun.
Great review of the Stingray. Looking forward to hearing your initial and long-term review of the C8 ZO6. I'm 12 months out depending on allocation luck at Ciocca.
9:46--Just one of many camera angles that really capture the interesting styling of the Stingray in a way I just don't recall before this. Well done, C&D and excellent commentary and review by Carlos.
Thanks, we love ours! On the Costco thing the trunk will take a package of TP in the middle of the trunk. She's more versitile that you would think and yes; if you don't want to be a brand ambassador, buy a Subaru. That being said, having a young person sit in the car makes their day/month/year and helps preserve a new generation of sports car enthusiasts. thank you Chevy
Nice to see a car being used the way I would use it. Seeing so many seldomly drive a car just doesn't relate to me at all. 20-25k miles a year is normal for our family.
GM Engineers have long been under appreciated. They are good at what they do. The styling department and bean counting committee leave something to be desired. But the Engineers do great work within the constrains a mass-market brand will allow.
I daily drive my c6 z06 all year in PA. With the exception of deep snow. Good tires are key but love it. I will admit with winter tires on going 5-7k rpm’s it will break loose. It’s fully built and puts down 614hp and 530tq. Love that car. I’m excited to see new z06
@@JeepCherokeeful I think the opposite. If you just leave it in the garage you can’t really enjoy it. If it snows I have the Audi S4. Other than that I daily my Z06.
@@shawnmartin1306 I have a c6 in pa. I love my car drive it half the year. The second salt gets put down I put it in the garage until spring. Keeps the car looking brand new. Especially the paint.
@@davidr6865 I do wash it a lot in winter. The undercarriage washing is extremely important. Also use a really good sealant on paint to protect it. I actually do work around those issues. Good wax job prevents so many possible issues. We are supposed to get 1-3 inches tomorrow. I will be in the heated pool out back but I will go play in the z06 too. I’m not the person holding up traffic. I’m the one passing in the middle, using the shoulder and using my horn pretty liberally. I drive like ass but I really do have a lot of fun with the car. I used to do track days on my bike at Summit Point, NC Bike and other places. I might start that with the z06. I’m 38 with a no debt, own my house, cars outright and make good money from my businesses. Just wait until I get a Ferrari and take that out in the snow 😂😂 The hate I would get would hilarious. I buy cars to use them that’s it 😉 even if I break them in the process just to pay to rebuild them 😂😂😂
@@davidr6865 add that I am 38 and drive for performance. I never wanted a show car. I want something I can beat up, do track days with and have fun on the street with 🙃 because that’s the fun part 😊
5 months working as a car runner and shuttle driver at a Chevrolet dealership I finally got to drive a C8 50 feet up near the shop door a few weeks ago. I’m 5’11” and slender and besides it’s an awesome car it’s a pain to get in and out of. It’s like folding my body up to slip into an envelope.
Thank you for all the information. I would order one, but not until it's available in a Stick Shift. Will that ever happen? I doubt it. But, I just can't see why it would not. A Corvette without a Manual gear box is absurd. JMO
Kudos on a compelling and complete Corvette commentary. If this car had a manual, and I had room for one more car, it would be on my short list. Since those are both no, guess I'll keep my FK8.
How do you get a bent wheel repaired for $125? And asking for a friend ... can that cylinder deactivation be deactivated? It makes the engine last a lot longer if all the cylinders wear evenly.
Did anyone else think Ryan Reynolds was doing car reviews? Or maybe that he has a brother that does? It's eerie! Your voice even sound like his, or his like yours? Regardless, ty for your time and efforts, Hope I haven't offended. - SC
It's made in America! He mentioned the first car under $100K they tested with a sub 3.0 sixty. They rolled it out at $60K with a 2.9 second sixty. That's a lot of bang for the buck.
This is truly a great car! I am proud of GM for the engineering success and the balls to produce this car! Long live Combustion engine rear wheel drive cars! 👍. Cars should be fun to drive as well as somewhat practical😎! Great review!!
The new Z06 engine is going to be a total GT3 slayer (the rest of the car already is), just a dam shame there won’t be a manual. I’ve never really considered a Vette before, but I want a Z06, and then I can decide which one to keep…
I'll be interested to see someone conduct a comparison test of those two cars. No losers there. The new GT3 is probably a helluva ride. I rode with a driving instructor in his GT3 Touring on a track and everything happened very, very, very fast. But the car never felt out of control or dangerous. But the Z06 should do just fine in any comparison.
@@Yarmox actually there was a recent test done on a track with a Z06 with Z07 upgrade and. GT3 and the C8 beat it in every test. 0-60, quarter mile and the road course. Corvette rules now especially for the price.
Thank you for this review. I am an old dude considering a Corvette again. I've had a lot of sports cars, mostly Porsches. I had a new 2003 Z06 and it was always in the shop for electrical problems. I loved the car but it was not a good experience. I've driven on VIR, Watkins Glen, Mosport and many other tracks (with NNJR PCA).
I have curious question because I live in the snowbelt as well. How has the paint held up in the rocker area and in front of the rear wheels. I know in the past these areas have been known to chip quit easily? I was wondering this because of the salt and anti-skid thrown on the road and just general debris while driving on our roads.
Paint ain't what it used to be. I drive my 2018 nissan Z in Quebec city all year round with studded tires. And its gonna be its 6th winter. Never "rust proofed" it. It still as no signs of ever been out in the winter (people don't believe me at car shows) I wouldn't worry.
Observation: @ 5:15; "Michigan's finest uncut blue road salt" Has nothing on our Illinois double-pure-uncut pink-Himilayan road salt . . . which is on my new Escalade V starting yesterday. $165k- 2 of those plastic cars.
4:45 and this is why the Corvette has always had a good ride and why they offer winter tires. Because if you can't drive it on the worst parts of Woodward and Dequindre and 75 and 696 in the middle of a blizzard, then there's no way you're getting anywhere and NOT killing your back.
Love seeing the Michigan content! Have to question which windy roads you guys filmed on because they look amazing! Love spending time on Adams trail in the UP and used to love tunnel of trees but the roads been repaired so many times it's really bumpy now
Hoping to order a 2025 C8 in a few weeks, in this exact glorious color! Hopefully they don't do something stupid like Ford did with cancelling all the good colors and creating some Molten Magenta (purple) Monstrosity between '24 and '25.
Where else are you going to find a true Super Car that you use daily and when the warranty runs out you won't break the bank in repair costs or servicing? It has to be the best ' bang for the buck' out there.
@8:18 Cruising at 75 mph and getting 26mpg may be "OK" for a V8, but that engine cuts off 4 cylinders, making it effectively a V4. Last time I looked, any 4 banger getting 26 mpg is BAD.
This is the one car I have always wanted. My dad was a Chevy dealer and sold precious few Vettes, but I always that they were "cool". The new mid-engine is a game changer. I also live in colder weather - Utah - nice to know it did so well in Michigan. Happy to take this one off your hands.
I don't own a Corvette, but if I did my review would be as follows: What I like about the car- It's a Corvette, and it's freaking awesome!! What I don't like about the car- I dunno, some stuff, but none of that matters because it's a Corvette and it's freaking awesome!! Bottom line- I'll never be able to own one, but I'm glad others will.
Thank you for sharing your experiences and expenses. Considering that it's a world class sports car, I believe that the maintenance is not as bad as expected. It should come with stronger wheels though... Great video.
I love the comprehensive approach GM did when engineering this vehicle. BRAVO! Fantastic sports car! However the elephant in the room remains the ‘cough…cough’ styling. EGADS!
$77,995 2020 3LT, 3200 miles, always garaged, Blade Silver, two tone natural/black interior, Spectra Gray wheels, black rockers, performance exhaust, Motorola wireless adapter. Owner is 77 so no hard miles. Picking up new HTC tomorrow so better hurry or it goes to dealer on trade. Del Mar, CA.
What a vehicle is like to live with within the first few years ,a peach of course whatever vehicle it’s after 5 years and warranty end you have to worry.
Yes, I've heard the rims are garbage and your experience proves it. What about all the engine recalls, did this effect your car? I understand cylinder deactivation ruins engines because the engine block run different temperatures, can it be turned off?
