This (long-term, daily, multi-season driven) kind of review is seriously needed for anyone seriously considering a relatively expensive car. Most of us make other sacrifices in order to afford purchase. We can’t afford to be surprised by lack of reliability, expensive repairs or very high maintenance costs. Thank you.
@@davidl922 and the probably with people like you is you say stuff like this that is just inherently ignorant. Most of these people aren’t buying it for the “rich look”. It’s because these vehicles are so fun to drive. For others it’s their dream vehicle regardless of what others think of it. Many corvettes for example are known as mid to high end sports cars (c8 may be considered an entry super car) that people actually drive. Meaning they can daily drive it and not necessarily just a car you bring out occasionally just cause it makes you look of higher status. Not just a garage queen, people put miles on these things and they love every second of it. That’s the real reason they get these cars. I understand some may buy the car for looks but that’s just not always the case with “people in America”
@@YSoAggressive i'll buy cars like this for the looks. and for the driving. and for the fun. and for the handling. and for the uniqueness. and for what it stands for. and of course for the god damn awesome sound.
Yeah corvettes last long… got rid of my 08 with a supercharger and i had 90k on her. Got rid of my 16stingray with 55k and only issue was transmission shutter which was fixed. Had headers and tune on that one. Got rid of my 16Z06 with Lingenfelter package and she had 86k on her. Drove like a dream. Corvettes last and are easy to maintain for the most part. The interior in all gen will eventually fall apart but, it’s expected from the Chevy. Drive them hard and enjoy them.
@@finwaydiddy1977 The used market for Corvettes demonstrates that. It helps that there's a ton of information on minor issues that can be caught and fixed before it turns into something serious. One of the best online communities out there.
This car is basically a Ferrari in performance that sells at 70% off and doesn't hit you with a 5-figure bill for an annual service. That's a hell of a sports car.
Carlos is one of the best yes. I like the way he talks about cars. He has worked to Motor Trend before and there are quite a videos with hin in youtube.
Really impressed with the longevity test results, glad Chevy was able to deliver such a high quality car. Also very impressed with the thoroughness of this video. Cheers!
My buddy just took delivery of a brand new one, matter of fact he went to the factory to tour and take delivery. He put exactly 1,505 miles on it when the engine completely exploded. His new engine is due in on Monday. If I spent $100k and got 1,500 miles out of it I'd definitely be returning the car
@@saulespino2510what bad understeer? I’ve owned my Z51 for going on 3 years, and the only way I’ve ever felt understeer is if I drive like a ham fisted idiot. No, you can’t drive it like a front engined car. You can’t stand on the brakes and crank in a lot of steering. (Hello Matt Farrah) yeah, you have to slow down first, then turn. It’s a mid engined car. But no it does not have bad understeer. (Yes, I used to race cars SCCA GT1 T/A..)
I love the C8 Corvette so much that I bought 2 of them, a 2020 Torch red Z51 Coupe and a 2021 Shadow gray Z51 Hard Top Convertible. I like the HTC the best. And yes, I’m an older gear head and both cars have Trident chrome wheels. 😊. And no, I don’t generally wear white sneakers and short shorts with my shirt tail tucked in. I absolutely love my c8. Best money I ever spent. I have had it since july '21 and I still love it and get as excited to drive it as I did the first day! Very comprehensive and well done review.

@@execatty I had the Jag F type R series and I loved the sound of the exhaust even better than my C8 but my C8 gets way more attention, perhaps because the color is accelerate yellow with a black top and red mirror caps to match the red break calipers and red interior. I love driving the car and I’ve had it 3 years now. It’s much more exotic looking than the F Type which is also a great car with a beautiful interior.
@@romanovmarkelyon1021 Lol. Snobbish much? People like a good car that you can _drive._ Not a garage queen. If I can have a super car with easily accessible parts. I'm damn happy.
@@TheTISEOMan it wasn’t meant in a snobbish way. Just meant that anyone spending $200k+ on a car probably couldn’t give a shit less about service costs. Comes with the territory.
My 599GTB was about $3500/yr for service. That was full fluids, road force balancing and all that. Not cheap at all, but also not just an oil change. Plus great service as usual.
I have #849 for 2021 . It's a yellow HTC , 2lt , with mag ride and front lift . I have the performance exhaust. I love my car. I live in arkansas . I have had no issues with my car . I took it form my home outside of Little Rock to Branson Missouri . I got an average of 30 mpg the whole trip . I have nothing bad to say about my car.
One thing that has always been a Corvette product objective has been daily usability. Except for versions or options that are high-performance oriented (specially tires), any Vette was able to handle a Michigan winter and trips to the store. As far as GM is concerned, it's still a Chevy. Given this version's world-beating performance envelope, though, it's a actual miracle! This is what happens when GM puts their best on the job. Thanks for these in-depth reviews, Carlos. This kind of info is the most valuable of all.
I gotta be honest, the usability angle is actually one of the things I'm not sold on with the C8. I own an old C4 (damn near the only Corvette I could afford at my age), and that thing's rear compartment fits honest to god full-size suitcases like it's messing around. At one point, I drove a couple miles from the tire shop with two rims and *two full wheels* in the cabin, which it handled - less than gracefully, perhaps, but still. This car is still usable, even as a daily, and with the front axle lift it even has a one up on mine - but I still feel it's much more compromised than the C4 through C7 gens (C4-C6 especially) where you could actually fit half a young adult's life into the car.
hahaha Corvette's have never been remtoely usable in winters with their extremely heavy front ends, rear-wheel drive, antiquated suspensions, often high power output, summer traction tires, lower ground clearance,... what part of these things make it ideal in winter? This interation being mid-engine will certainly help matters but your assertion is far off from the truth
@@slowery43 Corvettes had perfectly modern independent suspensions since 1963, and apart from the big-block C2s and C3s, always had a decently balanced weight distribution. And all recent ones have limited-slip differentials, usually clutch ones - which flat out do not permit single-wheel spins. Of course, they're not going to be SUV-strong in winter, but FOR. A. SPORTSCAR. they are more than adequate.
I`ve got 1.5 years and 6k mi. on my `06 C6 w/Z51 and stock LS2. Bought it with 27k mi. Most people don`t have a clue what Corvettes can do. They hang right with the Super Cars and dont cost near as much. And they`re American Made.
Hey Greg! You're absolutely right. Had an 06 Z51 and a previous owner had installed a cam. It showed 400WHP at 6000 ft above sea level in Colorado and was a beast. With TW200 tires I used it for autocross, time attack, some road course HPDE and open lapping events. The car had more performance available than I had skill!
My 2020 has had zero issues. My highway millage is significantly better. At a constant 75 mph, I regularly get 30-31 MPG - the onboard computer says my best average was 37mpg, but I have no idea how or where. ( it’s recorded over 50 miles)
Well done, C&D crew. I had fears that the new C8 would be a problem child from the get-go because of how much was new but thankfully (at least in this case) that doesn't seem to be true.
And don't drive it in winter like these idiots do and you won't get the bent rims and underbody damage that they had to repair. Most of the repairs are because they didn't drive a Tahoe in the winter, like most people are going to do. Car and Driver does because they are a car review pamphlet and that is what they do, review cars............
Did the Corvette owners school in Nevada in August with 100+ degree days. No problem with the air conditioner, you just had one go bad. 14,000 miles in 1.5 years and its not my commute car, just our fun car. The school heavily recommended never run the car on the streets with suspension on track setting, they may be what bent your wheels. Great review.
Wheels should be designed to handle the weight and speed of the vehicle and also account for Michigan potholes, of which there are millions. One bent wheel is normal here and there. Four bent wheels is not. Unless the car ended up airborne at speed. My Bimm 1-series is known to have heavy and weak aluminum wheels. I have personally been sideways on gravel roads beyond 80mph in this car, This car has at least 3,000mi of gravel road use. And it has been out beyond 130mph, 7K rpm top of fourth into 5th on 2-lane blacktop. I have hit gargantuan potholes in the rain at night. The tire shops have gouged the wheel paint with their machines, but I have never experienced a bent a rim. These Corvette wheels are inadequate for the cars intended purpose.
What a pleasure to see your review, Carlos. you have a very balanced and subtly humorous delivery that impressed me back in 2015 when you reviewed the sublime green challenger hellcat. Three hellcats later I finally have parted company with Dodge opting rather for the ram TRX. I really value these videos you put out. It gives me an appreciation for other vehicles when I see them.
Thank you for a very comprehensive review. As someone who will probably never own one of these, but nonetheless an automotive enthusiast - it's great to see that the C8 delivers on it's promise so well. We all kind of held our collective breath when it was known that Corvette was going mid-engine. Then we relaxed and even cheered a little at introduction. Good to see that there is real substance behind the flash. Corvette can go out and play with all of the yerrupeon exoticars that cost at least four times as much and deliver much the same performance at a price point that really embarrasses them all. Very cool!
Glad to see that having my new red-mist C8 Corvette Z51 convertible delivered last Thursday wasn't a mistake. The 5 times I've driven it so far I've absolutely loved it.
I'm not necessarily a car enthusiast, so I'm here to comment on something else. The audio in this video was awesome. Your voice is pristine, very present...overall this is a very well produced video.
As an Ohio resident, I would definitely own a Corvette and drive it most of the year (not in winter though). I plan on getting a Stingray Z51 as a retirement gift to myself when the time comes.
Just a quick tip, editing this video… show the Virginia race track, show the snow falling going to Costco, other sceneries. it would attract more viewers. ✌️. Keep rocking you’re all doing amazing job! 👍 love u Carlos
Making a magazine that is bigger than my Westways might attract more viewers too, I stopped my subscription to this little pamphlet, they don't even put it in a plastic bag in the winter time any more, it comes in a Ziplock sandwich bag it is so small!!!!!!
God presenter. I love how you daily the car all year round. Beautiful car. $80,000 I think the price is nice seems fair. I would definitely consider getting one of these. I live in UK and these cars are super very rare in the UK (and likely sell for a large premium).
@@Sean_Farmer the tires are ultra-low profile, and they're run flats, so I'm guessing the sidewalls absorb none of the impact and it all transfers to the wheels?
@@bradhaines3142 Seriously this maybe the only practicable solution, the cost to switch to a forged wheel might be prohibitive, and would that even absolutely solve the problem?
I'm in my 7th Corvette, an 06 C6 automatic in Le Mans blue. I swear, this car is a compliment magnet! I know it's not the fastest or the best, but I'm making it "mine". It will hopefully be the last car I buy before I retire. I just hope by then we can still buy gas.

I also got the "engine performance package" with the Carbon Fiber in the engine bay and lights that light up the engine at night. Car is now 18 months old and I have had zero problems with it. Lastly, flew out to Las Vegas and did the new owners driving school. Literally one of the best experiences of my life. Here, you can truly race the car the way it was meant to be raced. I would definitely pay attention to the bent wheel problem. The long term test of the C7 had similar findings. I have a C7 Grand Sport and have had 4 bent wheels and 2 cracked wheels. The company does not acknowledge this issue and owners are left paying for the replacements. I ended up buying forged wheels.

If you want to do a burnout press the traction control button once. Not twice because that starts the sequence to engage launch control when in sport or track mode. After hitting the traction control once stand on the brake and hit the gas really hard. Car might start to drift sideways but it will definitely smoke the tires while sitting there.
I thought it was weird they didn't do that until I realized they were talking about a typical good ol boys smokey launch not a brake stand. They just wanna take off leaving a mushroom cloud, doesn't seem like you can do that from a typical red light launch.

GOOD VIDEO!!! Honestly, a lot of people are driving cars that in the 90s would had been considered a supercar, or drive what could be consider a classic vehicle, but don't realize nor appreciate what they have. How do you get a bent wheel repaired for $125? And asking for a friend ... can that cylinder deactivation be deactivated? It makes the engine last a lot longer if all the cylinders wear evenly.
This C8 Corvette is a very beautiful car, modern, sporty and can be used every day reasonably without any restriction, reasonable in terms of price (in USA) and very competitive in comparison with European similar car (Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes...). You are lucky in USA to have such an exceptional car which probably will be not accessible here Europe where we promote mainly electric cars and where our European bureaucrats decided to stop the manufacturing and the selling of thermal vehicles at the date of 2035. Excellent video and very relevant analysis. Many thanks.
Reasonable in terms of price? You think that dealers are selling these cars for sticker price? Ha! Oh, you're serious. Let me laugh even harder...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA.....
@@MrSloika I spoke about "reasonable price" in comparison with the price of similar European cars found here in Europe. Of course, this C8 is a super car and a price 80 kUSD appears to me "reasonable" in comparison with what we see in Europe for this category of cars. Furthermore, technically speaking the C8 is really up to date in terms of embedded technologies and it is a very beautiful car.
@@STohme The 'sticker' price (retail price) is 'reasonable'. Cars in the US rarely sell at their sticker price. I don't know how it works where you live, but in the US a car dealer can charge whatever they want for a new car. I can guarantee that not a single C8 Corvette is rolling off the dealer's lot for sticker price. Because of supply chain issues, even ordinary cars like Toyotas and Hondas are selling for thousands of dollars over sticker.
Who gives a crap about fuel economy in a Corvette? Literally nobody thinks cylinder deactivation is a good thing. It’s been GM’s biggest debacle and the on-going Class Action lawsuit about it is still not resolved. I had to eliminate it in my C7 and still holding out in the C8 because of it.
Thank you for all the information. I would order one, but not until it's available in a Stick Shift. Will that ever happen? I doubt it. But, I just can't see why it would not. A Corvette without a Manual gear box is absurd. JMO

fun fact, here in the Upper Peninsula my parents were plowing snow a month or two ago in their 2011 Rav 4. Ended up breaking a nice portion of the back end of the plastic undertray. The first Winter I had bought my 350z I kept my old Chrysler Sebring to drive in the Winter and got stuck in 3' of snow just 20-25 yards from the garage. Needless to say there's no way I'll ever drive a car or even lower SUV/Crossover in the Winter up here. That next year I bought a Murano to drive Winters. The Murano is perfect because it has the ground clearance to get me from A to B when we do get a good dumping of snow. Anyway I get why it's done here for the test but screw driving a car like a vette in the Winter. Especially but not limited to, yes, they just plow sometimes.
I daily drive my c6 z06 all year in PA. With the exception of deep snow. Good tires are key but love it. I will admit with winter tires on going 5-7k rpm’s it will break loose. It’s fully built and puts down 614hp and 530tq. Love that car. I’m excited to see new z06
