Now I'm new into reptiles started in December I'm amazed how many places actually stinks when getting snakes or just looking at some incredible how people don't clean and only juse racks, how hard is it to clean a top, I clean my floors & sofa curse they shit all over the place and it never smells...

When chucky went on the rant about people only caring about making money and how much reptile abuse happens I couldn’t agree more. Not enough people talk about the accessibility of reptiles and how much misinformation is out there about care, and how breeders and other keepers turn a blind eye if it means a sale. Not to mention big box pet stores and selling leopard geckos for $25 and heat rocks right next to them.

Abuse and neglect do need to be a conversation in this industry. I stopped working in pet stores because of it and because of how suckly these animals would come in. I also believe we need to import less but that's another conversation.

I'm going with hybrid keeper type. Someone fascinated with the animals keeping them as pets , but is a small time breeder, with no plans to expand because it's part of their interest. My 3 snakes have naturalistic enclosure, plenty of room and lots of both in-enclosure and outside enrichment. They are our pets, and we love them. We're going to start breeding 2 of them in the fall, and it's just a hobby. I have a local reptile store who will pay me wholesale for the babies. If, long term, it pays for my hobby I'm good with it. Will the neonates be in a rack? yes. But if I have a holdback, that animal will have the same excellent conditions my other pets. "former employees don't matter" - yeah, they do. Don't underestimate the power dynamic of a boss like Samson; and he has a following of fans and supporters who are going to trash talk any employee or former employee who comes out and talks about the conditions. If you actually listen to the accounts of the former employees; the low staffing level, the long hours, the unpaid work, the sexual harassment, the lack of even a restroom, the bullying... it's pretty clear that Samson cares as little for his employees as he does his animals. They are just like many victims of abuse, who get asked "why did you wait so long to come forward?" If you listen to the accounts of the employees, there was a second building where the neonates were housed. Only Cass was allowed to care for them, and that's where those photos are from. That makes sense as to why the main building didn't smell of putrescine and cadaverine.

I first want to acknowledge and appreciate you men for being so compassionate about the well fare and ethics behind these animals. You bring up good points truly. I do want to point out that realize Cass was 50/50 co-ownership of slither right. The employees had to listen to her she was their boss. Again I appreciate you guys spreading awareness, I will admit I do hope and wish in the future you guys would do more research on this entire situation and do a deep dive. Before throwing names out because of an association, or business transaction they may have had I would keep names private until able to truly provide more information. We all know how people can be running their mouths and making threats, I would acknowledge big name people in the field did “XYZ” work or delaying a or had been linked up with him. I think the hard this is with any animal trades/ selling of animal…. No matter the species, buys, Sellers, Trades and rescues we all fail doing our due diligence and reaching the provider of these animals. Sam had Animal abuse charges and was convicted of felony animal abuse back in the early 2000’s, he was also convicted of owning a firearm after his felony conviction. Why was he ever able to be approved for licensing and selling of animals. To me the government failed big time. We don’t know what the employees went through or endured however I can understand sympathize and Empathize why they stayed! Who else was going to take care of the animals if they didn’t stay! I am only saying all of this because I truly appreciate when people use their voices fighting for what they are passionate about. And I don’t want you guys to have to endure what I did with threats of going to court for defamation l don’t know about y’all but I can’t afford that shit! Nor do I want that on my public record. I will also appreciate the agree to disagree, and I fully understand being fired up and passionate and your mouth is working faster then your brain. Or laughing things off because it’s uncomfortable, or how people deal with things. (We are not robotic we hand life differently and that’s ok) One thing we will agree to disagree on is breeder racks, personally I think they are great for specific things like making sure hatchlings are developing and eating. The monitoring animals prior to shipping to their new home being a responsible breeder and making sure the animal is healthy, eating, drinking and defecating normally. Also The monitoring or new animals being brought into the collection. Brumation of animals, super helpful. And of course Isolation of sick, injured or animals who need rehabilitation. Breeding is another big one however it’s one thing for mating, or to have a Gravid female lay her eggs in a breeder bin, (as professional breeders you can see and time out when roughly the lay date is close too) it’s another to house them long term in these bins. When maintained breeder bins are actually low stress, especially for gravid females and newly hatched babies, along with rehabilitation/ sick/ quarantine animals as it’s not overwhelming in size, come in many sizes and with RESPONSIBLE BREEDERS (sorry I just really want to enforce that) they are extremely Sanitary. But again I don’t think it’s right for Long Term housing. Ball pythons for example it pisses me off when people say they do not need vertical space failed they love exploring and climbing(not super high but 3 feet or so is perfect) We need more education and less product pushing at EXPOs with animals for sale. I respect and appreciate all Animals and acknowledge their beauty, I live most animals ( terrified of spiders but I’m working on that) 😂 The amount of conflicting information for breeders/ rescues, and manufacturers of products for animals and truly insane. When you know better you generally do better especially when profit is not at the front as to why you are in that field. Thank you again for all that you do for our community, I hope y’all do not take offense to constructive criticism) I love that the truly good people in our community do put the animals before everything else. And like I sorta mentioned before we all fuck up in life at some point.

I banned myself from the hobby for 2 decades because I neglected my reptiles back in the 90s when I got caught up with drugs

I think it's important people know, for folks that don't have a lot of experience in animal welfare and know of situations where people are prosecuted. First, if someone went to prison for dog fighting/animal cruelty like Samson did? He had to be horrendous because most animal welfare offices are under funded, overworked and it's very hard to make charges stick. He's an absolute monster and he probably moved into reptiles because it's virtually impossible to prosecute or reptile cruelty hasn't EVER been prosecuted in the past. He doesn't give a rat's ass about the animals, he never did and he never will. As long as some are producing, he doesn't care if they are sick, if some are dead or suffering, he knows he won't get prosecuted and just to make sure the charges don't only fall on him and it gives him wiggle room, he gaslight some young woman to be "co-owner." This is how these guys function. He's using her and hiding behind her. Obviously she isn't completely innocent, but she learned all her "animal care" from him and is also a victim. HE benefits from her Instagram, he's hiding behind her. This is coming from a woman's point of view, I personally think she's getting a lot MORE shit just because she's female and there seems to be a lot of jealous and catty women, but at the end of the day, he's like 50 and she was 19 when he preyed on her and did not do drugs, according to her friends, before she met him. Crazy people, especially some just awful women, which I find so disheartening, are so focused on her, but eventually he'll just find another girl or partner or other guy to hide behind. Animal abusers always abuse other people. He specifically targeted women who wanted to be on Instagram and "become popular" according to previous employees and he's certainly not the only older guy doing that. He seemed to be doing that WHILE with his "wife." Samson is the problem 100%, he went to reptiles knowing he wouldn't get put behind bars as easily as with dogs, throughout his life he's demonstrated he has absolutely no conscience and is most likely a sociopath. I'd be making sure there are no girls buried on his property along with the poor dead pets. 🤷‍♀

You did get something wrong about Samson and he did get busted in the early or mid 90s for the dog fighting and had a bunch of big snakes in poor condition then and again in like 2004 not 2011 or 2014

Having a son who grew up in this Era and is close to ur ages I get it my son deals with things he feels strongly about the same way by poking fun at it so I do get it and knowing that tells me even tho u may not show it u do care about these animals and like me u don't keep certain 5hings bec u don't feel u can give it its best life so idc that h don't have a shit ton of followers I get it and I see that u guys care about ur animals

Have another class of keeper. The me. The savior. The tired of the neglect and abuse reptile.keeper. the rescuer. The one who is all of the above, but yet is in business to go out of business. Literally my goal. My husband and I after seeing legit hoarding rescues full of abuse, neglect, flipping etc. Decided we were going to run a rescue and do it better by the animals on a smaller scale offering sanctuary also to those who cannot be adopted out again do to their trauma. We are building our foundation now by breeding our own bugs ect. Eventually breeding our own rodents, poultry, rabbits, in the future. Also working on frog feeder breeding. To provide frozen thawed frogs locally. Side businesses to provide for the rescue so we don't have to ask for donations. Also started a garden working on it not that good yet but working on it next year will be better. But my husband and I have literally devoted our entire lives to building this up to not only help the unwanted, but to also eventually help educate the community. I also think having watched a few of your podcasts now and several others that care recommendations vary wayyy too much. And this is what causes so much strife in the community and creates the divide in the community. If we had general care recommendations community wide, there would be less bullshit to argue about. But that's not a thing. You can go to twelve different sources and get so much contradictory information from each site on one specific species. So how tf is one person supposed to believe their correct versus another person? You literally can't. So unless your a reptile keeper that understands that you never really know what your talking about and could.potentially always be wrong and that information is subject to change on any given day because science. Then you're a shit keeper. Js. Liking the podcast. You guys are entertaining as well as carry some of the same values as I do. This is about the animals not about us. Fuck everything else. Keep on keeping on.
