Nothing went wrong with Alter, she's just too technical in a sea of Bangalores, Octanes, Pathfinders, and Horizons who are THE definition of straightforward.
Not really her ult is faulty (when you go down and use it you drop your shield which will get you finished and her Q is Finicky even a slight adjustment can change her port location by a lot kinda like ashes ult
Yeah she is in a very similar situation to seer and Newcastle, where their kits are just hard to learn and take time to master so it takes a long time for people to see their true potential.
Her Ultimate also just gets completely ignored by teammates because there's no real in your face prompt when you get knocked if u want to port to it immediately.
It's a worse version of Rev's totem. I wouldn't doubt that all it needs is to immediately return the knocked teammate back to her ult. The other teammates get notified already that their teammate is down, and then they can return back.
Alter is basically a support legend idk why she’s a skirmisher her ultimate is a life saver being able to use it while knocked can turn a bad game around and her being able to scan ring consoles is valuable as well she’s a must pick in ranked in my opinion.
Her tac let's her do hit and run tactics which I think is the point of Skirmisher as a class. If anything she is more of an assault or control legends imo
Alter kinda needs comms to work super well. I love playing her but I’ve noticed I can really only make incredible use of her with friends, since I don’t use comms with randoms. She can sort of act as a battle recon with her passive, and her tactical has to have sufficient obstacles to be used, but the value it has is incredible if you know how to play around with it and mess with your opponent. Her ultimate also requires your teammates to USE IT to get value. I can’t tell you how many times my teammates have refused to use my ult when they are separated. They go down or are just running around in the middle of a team fight and they refuse to come back and regroup for a second chance. Sure enemies can follow through but 90% of the time they don’t because that could be the death of you
THIS It gets so bad that when I play with Randoms I straight up explain her ult and waste one ult teaching them how it works before we get in trouble just cause so many don't know about it.
She suffers the same problem as many of the other legends: no movement. She does have repositioning tools, yes. But in reality the only mobility she has is cutting corners in micro rotations, something that pales in comparison to the speed and versatility of a grapple or stim. Her kit is a few buffs away from being consistently useful; consistency being the biggest weakness throughout her kit. Terrain, map, teammates, enemies… there’s no guarantee your abilities will be as effective as other legends. This is coming from someone who loves playing alter. (Alter/rampart/caustic main)
@@zerogotit3373 There's a difference between movement and micromovement. While Alter has great close quarters playability, Alter's toolkit doesn't bring things like squad rotations and big repositioning to the table. That's probably why Alter gets overshadowed by other legends, even though Alter is not bad at all.
@@shq_main2853 the problem isn’t that alter isn’t good it’s the fact the the apex community is filled with many people who don’t have a brain of their own , they watch the “PRO” players play and try to replicate the same style of game play from pro leagues in pub/ranked lobbies not realizing it’s no where near the same type of gameplay! So the try to copy every “meta” they see from them and if it doesn’t include a character that benefits the style of play in pro league than the casuals follow suit and began to say a character is “Bad” or not good in ranked 💀💀💀 Alter is a very good legend she makes for crazy outplays with her tact and pushes & her Ult is a God teir get out of jail free Card and could save your whole team or even be used as an premeditated rotation tool
@@GoldGanymede you have to be arguing with yourself ….. that’s like saying wraith can only phase and do longer superglides with tech …. It’s stilllll movement ….. that’s literally my point she has movement! Like u literally just named a few it’s a difference from knowing how to play a character and knowing how to use them to their full potential if you feel like she doesn’t have “movement” or think she’s bad whatever don’t play her …. Simple she a great character because she also have more than just straightforward movement I’m done responding to bots .
Nah, people just she her for what she really is. Her tactical is pretty good, admittedly, but her ultimate is mid at best. And I can't even remember her passive. In short, her tactical is pretty much the only thing she has going for her. But there are still better ones out there anyways
Her tac needs a bit longer range to do some really cool stuff, her ult probably needs some changes, but at the very least her passive should let her grab swaps on a 1 minute cooldown
Coming from someone who solo queued to diamond using Alter only. She is too situational, only good around buildings, and thus only some maps/POIs. Out in the open she does nothing. She’s also hard to use and requires extensive POI knowledge to know where the best portal spots are. That being said she’s elite at resetting fights with her ult and the portal is elite for surprise pushes and movement. And some advanced tech like portal fighting and kidnapping. But that’s it. She’s strong but limited and takes high skill to be good with her. One buff that is needed is a speed boost on exiting portal. This gives her some more movement options and makes her more of a skirmisher, and more fun to play.
She is perfect, I think she is in a very similar spot to seer and Newcastle where there kit is amazing and super underrated but takes skill and technical knowledge to master, which most players aren’t willing to put the time into learning they just want someone they can pick up and do good with so it will take time before someone shows her true potential
As an alter main I think a unique and fun buff would be to include her 1st upgrade to see enemy health by default. And moving her tac cooldown from her 2nd upgrade to her 1st, and add a new 2nd perk to get a second tac charge or maybe a +10 meter tac upgrade
I think they should just get rid of or change the ultimate perk where it has infinite duration. it already last so long anyways that I feel that its pointless
oh believe me, people will always think certain legends are bad, but I play fuse mad maggie before they are meta and already have the pleasure playing them before people are picking them up. I also play crypto when he's like the bottom tier of the dogwater legends (before the invis and talent tree) because I know how to play his drone well and abuse his instant res. I got quite a lot of clutches and wins playing these legends before they're noticed by the community. alter have so many potential if you simply know the layout of building you play around. i mostly won fights vs other squads easily just because they're holding the door angle and not expecting someone coming straight from the wall behind them. sure, simplicity of a hero is a good point like horizon simply going up and valk flying around, but alter can basically make any walls thats less than 20 meters thick as her shield (travel to the other side) when shes cornered or just simply run away. to add more of that, I can throw nades on the other side of the portal and get free damage if they push me blindly. I also kind of dumbfounded when certain random teammates flame me and ask why I didnt pick 'meta' or support legends. Interestingly, people flame me when I pick valk in the early update of the patch (full ult scan talent) and mock me for playing stupid characters like her. now look at her, she's one of the top picked legends🤣. I actually had to hold myself back a lot because people will tell you things otherwise. sorry if someone had to read this long rant of mine, but this is simply what I experienced when playing non meta legends and alter
Most of the time, you won't even remember her ultimate is there. Chances are, you'll be too busy trying to stay alive to notice that your teammate has placed a get-out-of-jail-free card because it's not as noticeable as a Wraith or Ash portal
Yeah the tac has too many conditions that need to be met to be useful mid fight, a wall thin enough to go thru, cannot really be used against enemies to affect them negatively, usually only for self and teammates. Like in this newcastle/bang meta, a horizon is infinitely more useful (and arguably more enjoyable) than alter.
She is one of the coolest designed characters, just in terms of the way she looks and acts. Unfortunately her kid is very unreliable. Yes, her ult can be really good when you use it correctly. But her tactical is way to upredictable, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it works but you don't know where you end up. Also, it takes too long to create a portal. It should be way quicker.
Can't tell you how many times my teammates ignore my ult even when I ping it or call it if they're in trouble. Beyond that Alter seems almost only good on E-District. On THAT map she tears people up. On other maps it's like what am I gonna do? Put a portal through a small rock? She takes a lot of experimentation and map/game knowledge to make her work correctly with the things you can do and stuff you can actually port through. I've found her most useful ability for her is definitely her discount loba ult where I can steal stuff from boxes. Honestly she doesn't feel like a skirmisher though.
Shes an exciting character but her kit doesn’t match her crazy. Her tac also needs longer range. Idk if it’s just me but sometimes her ult glitches and doesn’t work. Shes definitely underrated though
i thought that too when i got the 4k 20 and 800+ kills with her, i think the problem with her kit is that there a lot of movement legends that just do a better job than her at being the movement legend, i also think they should increase the range for her q and make it so your ult gets destroyed as soon as all of your teammates use it.
I do love playing her but stopped doing it when playing with randoms because so many teammates for some reason refuse to engage with her abilities (especially the Ult) and it's just frustrating after a while :l
Alter's main problem is that her tactical just feels limiting. The short phase coming out of the tac, the long activation time and cooldown all feel bad - I think they should significantly decrease the amount of time you're in the phase coming out of her portal, and also decrease the amount of time the portal lasts, and decrease the cooldown to give her more opportunities to use it mid fight - it needs more freedom of use.
Tbf there is like a 50/50 chance it'll instant port you. I think the time in it is important because it gives you a second to see where the enemies are. Remember, they know where you are coming from, you don't know where they are standing
I'm still a Valk main, but i love Alter. Mainly for trolling though. I highly recommend using her portal to trap people in places like Caustic's secret room. They patched the ability to use the doored area to do this, but you can still get in from beneath the room. If your interested in learning the troll or see what subjects, including predators and 3 stacks i was able to capture, check out the "Apex Legends: The Backrooms Experience: Alter Portal Troll" playlist on my channel! Ive got a lot of new vids to add as well, showing new methods of getting in and trapping. It's way more fun than the old Wraith trolls! Peace and Happy Trolling (until they fully patch it 😓).
When knocked it's hard to use because you need to drop your knock shield which just leaves you open to get blasted before the animation to fall back finishes
@@kingoflegends712 Then you get mad because, like everything else in this game, the button to use it is the reload button and you need to be looking *exactly* dead center of the nexus to get it to even activate. (It should just have a "close enough" mechanic)
As someone who has been maining Alter I can say a reason why she is good is that nobody plays her so most squads panic when you walk through a wall. If she was played more she'd the worst legend
I've been playing Alter a lot this season, and she is just too situational. She is good at flanking in and around buildings specifically, and even then only sometimes. I will say that she's really strong at punishing mid-fight revives (again, in or around buildings only), and unlike path or octane pushing a corner, she can get back out too. But the praise ends there.
Alter has become my new main. I was a revenant main. But her play style suits me more. I love being sneaky, and she allows for that. Also, to make Alter meta, they should re-class her as support. Her alter and tactical make for great revives.
I’ve felt for a while now that Alter should have her ultimate reworked and upgrades adjusted to be a recon legend. I think she could be a really interesting entry frag-type of recon legend if she could give sustained information to teammates the way she gets recon through her tactical. I’ve had some amazing plays with alter’s current kit but shes just not as universally useful as some of the other legends, and a bit more technical, which is less appealing in these meta-crutching times
I agree, she is fun. What I like to do on Alter is if I know an enemy is on the other side of cover I place a portal on the cover and it takes them to my side where I shoot them. 😂
I main catalyst, and i hate alter for 2 reasons. When an enemy is alter, it sorta is a direct counter, which sucks xd. But when a teammate is alter, its 20 worse. With catalyst, her ult is unresponsive, and sometimes impossible to use. The ult interact button, is overlapped by, trap pickup, trap (ghost) interact, reinforce door interact buttons. It literally takes a whole 1-2 seconds for catalyst in these conditions to actually start doing the animation because of this.
She has very limited offensive and defensive capabilities with her portal. Ult kinda sucks and is to slow while also letting enemies use it. She lacks an "oh sh*t" ability that can get you out of a bad situation. Most of the popular legends can do something when caught out: bang smoke and run, horizon lift, pathy grapple, wraith phase, oct stim. Alter requires there to be geometry for hers to be good
As someone who's been playing her since release (13k kill) its hard to play her when you don't have communication, she's good for solos or full 3 stacks, but if your solo q'ing she's useless if you cant communicate with how you're using her abilities
And most people don’t play legends that heavily rely on their teammates, with the exception of lifeline. Why play Alter if I can pick Rev, Horizon or Pathfinder, it just makes no sense. And if we’re talking about the fun factor, Octane takes that all day
I think the kit is really good with comms or an assembled squad. She is powerful when everyone uses for ports/ult as you showed. I honestly do not enjoy her personality. I’ve been playing solely Valk this season. Love the recon perks and so good to have her movement back. When you get used to her, all the grounded legends seem so grounded lol. Perviously a bang main
I honestly don’t understand why she’s not played more. She’s so good and fun. To me at least. She’s just needs walls to be effective. Wide open areas are terrible for her.
There’s literally no reason why you have to lower your knockdown shield when using her ult OR why enemies can also take it. They nerfed her into the ground before she ever even got a chance to play.
My problem is, that i just play casually right now and don't have enough to unlock the new legends. That's why I wasn't able to play the (i think it was) last 3 new legends.
I think if the game had gone in a different direction in terms of new legend design she would be great. Just imagine if the flying legends (Horizon and Valk) had never been introduced into the game. A legend like Alter might even be considered OP when compared to other movement characters. (Side note - Horizon drastically changed the game when she was released and Apex hasn't been the same since then imo.) My preference for movement focuses on two things. I want to either gain height or travel some distance quickly. That's why I play Path. Now he can do a lot but there is some skill involved in proper grappling. Horizon and Valk are just pushing a button and you're off. So is there anything wrong with Alter? Not really. She just gets outclassed and after I played her for a week or two I found myself wanting to go back to Path.
Personally the way i use her is a assist is the best way to deacribe it. I set a beacon for us to restart but i stay behind and do chip damage to whoever my teammates target. So i rock G7 or charge. They fall, they take my alt, revive, and restart. But obviously with a team that doesn't like to play safe (gold players) shes not valuable in their eyes like Octane
She can be fun to play, but honestly kinda pointless like wraith now a days. Her utility is hard to use when you don't know who's on the other side of the portal, and really never offensive use cause it's not like your gonna get the drop and win a 1v2. If you try to use it to escape well so can the enemy so it's doesn't really help. Same with her ult, by the time you have to use it, so can the enemy, get that 2 second invisible buff, and your probably less health then them. Granted there are some niche cases where being downed and using it while a third party is distracting. Maybe a little ping at the exit portal when it spawns, or maybe being able to drop someone out of the map if I get it underneath them and there no playable area underneath. I'm not saying to make it easy, but maybe make it a little less hard to portal an enemy with her utility. Although now that I think of it, most buildings have a roof or second floor. I wonder how hard it would be to utility above an enemy when you push a building, to force 1 person somewhere else to make the push easier. Granted they can just go back through the portal so the window isn't long, but I wonder if there's a way to make that mechanic work without being too op. Less about porting herself and more about trying to port an enemy. I know people tried it by extracting enemies to the outside, but peaking a door or window, hitting someone with the utility just right to force them elsewhere to engage the push. Or maybe something simple as when an enemy uses the portal the exit facing a random direction? I'm not sure but I think making it harder or a nerf to enemies that use the portal. Or letting her be able to use her utility against enemies more would be a good adjustment for her. At least that's what I got out of playing as her. Not saying she isn't fun to play with, just about every legend is fun to play for me, but I do think those changes would bring her usage up. Maybe a charge to her utility, so just pressing puts you on the other side of the wall and the longer you hold the button the farther it reaches into the room, up to 5 ft or something. That way you can snatch people easier but have to wait longer to use, and also enter rooms at other spots than right at the portal. Idk.
I don't have time for new legends if they aren't somehow amazing. My top three have been around, and I gotta split my time between those three, and the ones for the dailies.
I just came back to the game after a long break and im learning alter. the main thing I run into is teammates never using my Ult esp when they are knocked or were getting 3rd etc etc. I comm and they just ignore me as well. I love her tac though esp with comms when people listen. Ive won games off of it a good amount of times. basically I think shes fine but teammates just refuse to listen or use any of the util you provide. I also think her passive perks are kinda meh but that could just be me I only rlly like the -10 CD on tac. the unlimited ult duration is kinda whatever cause it already last so long.
I think if she could take shield cores with the passive she would be a little higher. I actually enjoy playing her tbh. She feels like a mix of wraith ash and old revenant.
Ngl i do think that'd make her too strong. There's no cooldown or anything on her passive, so that'd mean she'd be able to just get a free instant armor restart for every deathbox that happens to be in the area. Wouldn't be fun to fight an Alter that can instantly recharge her shield 6 times over just cause there was previously a fight in the general vicinity
i play with my buddy and his wife (who is on switch) and they are not good. i play alter for the escape and revive ability. also being able to dive and get away alone to try and give us options is irreplaceable. my main since season 0 has been path and loba
Comming here to Flame!!!!! Only played 3 games today after a long break. 2 of the games had hackers/no recoil across the map L-star. sigh..............
Randoms NEVER use her damn ult! even when I spam comms "use my ult use my ult" PEOPLE DONT! I just feel like people don't know how to use her ult or utilize it and imo it takes waay to long to create a portal. Not even talking about the animation i spam or hold it for so long before even getting the long animation. Then the delay before an enemy can take it isnt that long. So many times im rezzing a teammate and the entire team has taken it right as im finishing rez and instantly dying or being out numbered. Her Ult is defintiely underwhelming for such a cool character like her.
She takes too much brain power to use, which is alot to ask of a player base that mains mostly braindead legends like Octane and Horizon. I agree that she isn't top tier, but she's still pretty fun and rewarding in the right hands
Mrage getting 2% is crazy high considering how $h1t he became in season 22 after all the indirect nerfs, the worst legend by far. That shows a lot of us still have affection for this Goofball.
The ammonite of people blatantly cheating in alex ranked is the reason why I don't play it anymore I greet much exclusively play time or the event Playlist
