I played briefly and loved it and the community. I invested a lot of hours on DR. Sad to see it decline

Deathrun created a community after Gawley made his videos. Those people are all grown up now and don't have as much time, or just want to play something else. Deathrun died because the 'small' group of players never really changed and there was no new youtuber to spread the word to attract more players. I'm just glad I got to play for as many years as I did and honestly those cod4 servers like pXg and raid made me the person I am today.

Maybe I am not an oldschool player, but this game.. this mod had a huuuge impact on me. This is the only game, and most importantly - the only gamemode where I reached almost 3k hours on it. I loved playing on skypillar rekting some noobs for 12 hours straight doing strafes, getting new records such as time record, kills, points... and being happy. Even when I created my youtube channel I wanted to share my experience and skill to everyone on this platform (yes we all still remember Bandicam watermark and 10 fps recordings) When I found out about Your Challenges, I began to play more and more and freaking tryharding so much just to prove how good I was.. It also used to be a motivation for me to make any deathrun videos - or any videos at all. A lot of players abandoned this game because of their reasons, servers that used to be full of players are now empty.. I wanted to continue on making any deathrun videos but I don't know if anyone will keep on watching.. I just wish these times were back, Deathrun will die and I'm afraid it's too late to do anything about it.

good vid mate, you have some solid points in this. sad to see it happen too but it lasted a lot longer than lots of us thought it would, nice to think back on the memories from like 2012-2015 though, those were the best years of deathrun imo. Quantum

I'm so glad to say that I was part of such a diverse , memorable and engaging community. The irony is that all good things do come to an end but I'll never forget back in the day when there was no discord so we spoke on TS; and laughing at those who couldn't strafe (like myself); when people rarely did speedrunning and getting jealous over people like warnerr. Coming home from school and hopping straight on cod4 with the boys in 2014 was golden.I had a really crappy pc though so hitting 100 fps would be difficult. But generally this community are like really close friends to me so I thank everyone who played/plays dr

I have only been playing this game for like six months or so, and the this I found that has put me off is seeing your videos and seeing how good you are and how farrr away I am from being as good as you... So I think the main issue is new players can't get into it because is just sooo hard. So existing players are leaving and new players cannot get into it because its just so hard!

Deathrun took a LOT of our memories back in the days the game may die in the future and who knows when but for us oldschool players the impact it had on us is unforgettable, sad to see the game slowly lose its charm once the new updates started kicking in.. despite that deathrun is still there, or what's left of it at least. Glad i got to see deathrun at its finest, alongside playing with good old folks, Never been more thankful.

For me it's just hard to get over this game. Seeing it die like this is just sad. I know my self I will always come back to play it until there's no more servers/players left. :/

i was playing cod 4 deathrun like 2 years ago in the summer like every day, it was SO fun, i wasnt the best, i knew how to strafe and shit but it was really good, the songs from the maps, the people playing it, it was really good :D

i just think for me the lack of maps is one of the biggest reasons it becomes too repetitive if u've been playing it for so many years

I used to play deathrun on the FNRP servers. Not sure if anyone knows of the server. I remember staying home from school just to play all day. I might just reinstall cod4 and play it. Man these maps bring back so many memories!

Played this game when i was 13-14 and had some of the best days of gaming on this game.Played every day with my friends after school.stopped when i was about 18 but it still holds a big place in my heart from the friends i made to the skills and satisfaction i earned playing this.I miss the old days and I might even come back sometime.

I myself have been playing this game for 5-6 years, and until this day, I still have fun playing the mod. Not many mods/games have managed that. The amount of players still playing to this day is close to none. But we will all enjoy it until the last second. Atleast i will :)

I had been playing DR since,I would say 2012-2013,and I never thought that I would ever get bored of it.But unfortunetly I did and it's the exact same reasons that you stated.Personally my bigger problem were the maps,everyday the same 5 maps were being played and rotation would barely change.Well after some time it just got boring for me and I just stopped enjoying it.I met so many nice people while playing dr that I will never forget and with some of them we are like pretty good friends even and now.Dam that was kinda emotional,I think that a tear just dropped :c. .Will always keep watching your dr vids not only cause I really enjoy them but also cause you are the reason that helped me start to a channel and I thank you for that

New players, new servers with new settings. Old timers didn't like it but they had no choice hence why they quit and why I quit. All the old servers died out. I think back when BBW' Ninja or Sini or Sinister quit his server back in the day, that's when I felt like it started declining. I even considered the game "dying" back when Raid or AR51 was active. They came after this game had peaked. It's been so many years that I can't even remember the OG server's names. Don't know how I stumbled across this video but I used to watch some of your videos several years ago. Doubt anyone still remembers me. I can barely remember anyone from the DR community. Except for owo, I still have him on my friends list I think. Oh and KeX and kescke or however his name was spelled, creator of Semtex :D Fuck. BWR anyone? Was it 3xp? BCC? UAA? The old servers was called something like that.

Good video man, it's nice to see you essentially project what we're all thinking like this. You're right about the attachment, somehow the mod always seemed to stay fun. I think in the end for me it comes down to the server since I always genuinely enjoyed playing while Tex was around. zserver is definitely not great, the operator, if he even exists, seems a bit out of touch, Ghostrun kills the chat, and BY FAR it's because like 20/200+ maps are put on. I hope it improves and the mod sticks around another two years as you said.

I don't think there is one major reason that deathrun died. There were so many factors that contributed to its downfall that listing just a few would be pointless. One similarity, though, that deathrun has with many other games that are dead or dying is that it follows the fundamental truth of life, which is that nothing lasts forever. No matter how fun or popular the game is, its lifespan is always limited. All of these factors affect every game in the industry, either minutely or severely. Since this game has lasted for this long, it's reasonable to say that deathrun has had a good run :) (no pun intended)

First iceops died, that was a big hit, afterwards tex died, that caused deathrun to really start dying. Then the deathrun speedrun server pushed deathrun to the limits, and that also made so many people really good at deathrun imo. It made it alot easier to practice deathrun. You can only become so good at deathrun, the speedrun server pushed it pretty far. I feel like there isn't that much to discover anymore, regardless of possible new maps. So pretty much, communities that have been built in dr servers dying, followed by it being pushed to the limits, causes deathrun to start dying. Aswell as the moment when Zsever (i hope not) server closes down, that could very well be the end of dr. At the other side, maybe in like 5 years, deathrun is still active cause quite a few people still play cod4. Who knows :D

started playing fnrp and maybe raid sometimes back in 2013-14 and i stopped playing after fnrp changed admins and most people are grown up now, im just sad that all the people i was friends with are gone with college and all grown up. thanks to everyone in this community for everything

Still not tired of this game,playing it for 5 years and its still funny,especially when you rekt bad players :C So nice to see that you want to keep Deathrun community alive, I would like to make videos again but I'm tired of it,maybe in future who knows :D The problem is that kids who starts to play video games they dont know about old games like this one which is one of the best in history. Quit because of AR51 died at some point. A lot of people moved to a new community named "NoName" (yes nice name i know). I stayed with the new community for like 6 more months but then I kinda quit. New games come around and since none of my friends played deathrun with me I decided to quit and play the games they played. I even have like a 70% finished deathrun map on my HDD. But since I stopped playing deathrun, I never had the motivation to finish the map anymore. One big yikes for me is that the speed on most servers is insane. Holding back on strafes just feels bad and makes me want to stay away from playing it even more. However. I've spend countless hours playing deathrun that I won't regret. Deathrun and the community that came with it will always have a place in my heart. Maybe it's the reason I still watch your videos from time to time. Just because of those nostalgic feels.

I had some great moments on Deathrun as I'm sure we all did. Deathrun was my daily hobby for many years and I loved it to death. I Started playing in 2012 and played consistently until 2015, that's when I started to have breaks; but in 2018 I do not play anymore, I've considered coming back as I do miss this game, but with no good servers around anymore, I'm yet to see q point, maybe if Raid got populated again. Deathrun gave me many hours of happiness and pleasure, I'm sad to see it dying but like anything; it won't survive forever. Deathrun can be revived but it would take a lot, I'd love to see it come back and be in it's prime, but I believe that is a pipe dream and we all have to accept that the game we once loved has been left for dead and it's time to move on; the community has become toxic and abusive.

Wait no, *Cherry, or DragonBall* haha Losing Gawley/West sucks, but watching you play on *the same maps I played 3-5 years ago after all this time* really gets me *how many new maps are produced each year?* *how many servers run new maps each year?* *how many people are promoting the game mode on social media, or the game in general?* without these answers it's hard to tell what the effects individuals had on the mode, as compared to what just *time* had on the mode AR51 pXg, I remember huh good luck, keep going!

It's sad to see deathrun die but the community started to grow up and move on to different things and we all knew it was gonna happen. Thinking back like 5 years ago and playing deathrun all the time was some of the most fun I've ever had. It was fun while it lasted and I'm definitely going to miss those days.

Everything just decline with time, but deathrun was more than a game for me, it took all of the time of my life for more than 6 years.. I remember when I play with braxi at the beginning and meet u on Ar51, best old times...

I've had my fair share of drama within Deathrun and it's safe to say I just got bored. The maps became repetitive and it just lost the whole skill aspect to it, it all became about who has the fastest time rather than the actual core of Deathrun which is having fun, activating on your mates while in a call or in teamspeak, also getting fastest time was difficult as you'd need to hope that someone wouldn't activate and get a perfect run. I regret what I did with pXg as I really thought something would come of it but that's all in the past now. As others have said I'm glad I played for the duration I did and I'm also happy there's still some sort of interest in Deathrun as if I ever wanted to hop on, regardless of high speed or abusive staff, I could still have fun. The other issue is that you can only do so much with Deathrun, there's only so many people who make maps and there's a lot of limitations in the modding aspect. At the end of the day Deathrun is Deathrun, it's an activator activating traps on the jumpers (or nowadays, free run) so just like any other mode or mod it will get outplayed and eventually will die. Look at battle royale games, they're certainly not on the decline but they will be at some point, it's only one mode and only so much can be done with it. I'm hoping one day Deathrun will be on the rise again and get some proper recognition, after all it is brilliant in my opinion and I'd still be playing today if the old servers were still as active as before. Also thanks to all which have made this mod what it is, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Deathrun and I'm glad to say I was apart of it. Although I have had drama and have done some stupid things I'll always be thankful and never regret that I started to play this mod; it's taught me so much.

My main reason for stop playing Deathrun is because of all the perks people have these days. Raygun, bounce and so on. Had alot of fun speedrunning people with the pro’s, but promod it is now :-) Probably as most people here; started playing because of staab and the others

Been playing off and on since 2014 and couldn't believe when i saw people playing in 2022 i had to redownload it and start playing. I feel like if the mod was easier to install so many more people would play. just feels like the game died before it got big and if more people knew about it the community would grow. with the state of cod rn so many people are going to the older games i feel like it can bounce back.

I see quite a few people mention things I too hate about nearly every server out there nowadays: speed, cod4x, abusive admins, stupid plugins etc. So... Shameless plug... A while back I was offered to bring Raid back, so of course, I took the opportunity. Sadly, the servers aren't nearly as active as I had hoped (Deathrun itself is actually dead nearly 24/7, but we can change that with your help). It's basically old Raid with a new skin, the only things that have really changed are the menus, some characters and weapons, new trails for VIPs, selectable hands and the map rotation system which will now force every map in the currently 124 map long list to be played before you can replay a map (you can also request to have more maps added on the forum, the list can, in theory, be infinite). And oh... Changing your FOV actually sticks now so you don't have to change it all the time. xD So if you want any of the following, Raid's got it: - No cod4x 1.8 (hi Mac players), Raid runs on a custom build of 1.7a that does not require a custom client - 190 speed - No abusive admins (if anyone ever abuses, hit me up with proof and they'll be kicked from the team instantly, absolute 0 tolerance policy on that shit since it ruins the game for everyone) - Not play the same 5 maps all the time - No lives (fuck me, that shit was dumb) - No pay-to-win or other BS donator-only mechanics So for everyone that misses the old days of classic, no bullshit Deathrun with some slight customisation, there is actually a server for you. :) Website: raid-gaming.net/ Servers: servers.raid-gaming.net/ Deathrun: raid-gaming.net:28960 Sorry for the self-advertising but I too want to just have a good server to play on. Deathrun is one of the best mods in cod4, actually the only out of the ordinary mod and made cod4 fun. Also i think why it dies is like you said the old players went on to newer games. Anyways Awesome video again and stay awesome

Lack of creativity, repetitive boring maps, no significant updates, and it was stuck in a time loop with no foreseeable future in sight. Unless something happens, it's time to move on.

I played this in like 4th or 5th grade and I’m now in 10th and tried to hop on after years and there was like 1 server and all the new maps are horrible

My main Reason behind how Dr is slowly dying out is because of overplayed maps and well same as you said the pro players stopped playing, the pro's actually help and inspire the newbs to become better at the game and improve on strafing and using fps right. It like a competition between newbs and pro's.

Real reason why deathrun is dead is because Braxii didn't want to update this game any more, I think deathrun 1.3 was never finished. She just started new projects.

Deathrun started to die after braxi forums closed. There was no longer 1 place for the community to be so it got very split up. This also caused the quality of maps to go to shit. People very few people actually made original plugins and modifications for servers. A community cant grow if people dont make good content to keep it alive.

well, i left dr community just cause i got tired of all the drama happening between servers.. then the good ones(in my opinion) died out and now there's only high speed servers which i don't really wanna start playing, cause it will fuck up my CJ..

I’ve been playing deathrun since the start and I have always had a love/hate relationship with the mod. I enjoy it when I play good or at least have a nice conversation with the people on the server but in the last 2-3 years the community has become super toxic and you couldn’t join a server and have a good time. I would never wish for this game to die and I know that one day I will probably return to it.

The Cod4 dethrun mod is the only mod that I can play because of the sprinting mechanic >.>

I played a sht ton of CoD4, including death run. I dont think Death run died because of anything in death run, I think it died because most modes in cod4 died. With dead it doesnt mean fully dead but just most of the playerbase gone. People playing the game has decreased a lot, I havent touched it for like 2-3 years now. I have literally the best memories on this game. I had so much fun and I really miss it, but it is what it is. It will never be what it once was sadly, but thats okay. Lets just remember this game as a master piece giving us such a great time!

Hopefully one day people start coming back, or it gets revived or something, definitely was and still will be one of my favourite games, although I don't play it much anymore. This game has been around for 5+ years? It's been around since november 2007 dude haha, eleven years is a long time! As for deathrun, I discovered it when I was in my last year of high school, in 2012, so yeah, 6+ years ago indeed :D. I live in New zealand now and connecting to either european or american servers make for equally terrible pings haha. But Cod4 just remains the cleanest CoD in my eyes in terms of accuracy and in-game sensations where physics are concerned. There's indeed a bit of nostalgia linked to the good old days of AoD' Deathrun, with Braxi being awesome and creating maps... But also it was 6 years earlier so of course my perception has changed since then and the nostalgia is prolly also linked to the general feeling of being 17-18 at the time ^^. As for the game dying? I think it won't die much more honestly. It's reached that point when it's already mainly dead and the people still on it are quite attached to it :). It just feels more and more awkward because the game is so old but when I go back to it, no matter how long I've been gone, the personalities of the players haven't changed one bit haha, still the same mindsets, the same funny people/complaining people/bragging people/... and a great many more archetypes... Still, it's a game that feels like home and evokes the high-school days for me, wouldn't forget it for the world!

Deathrun probably would have favoured better with all the old farts like me staying. Hell, I helped teach you how to play Krispy lol. I actually can’t believe Deathrun lasted as long as it did. My server turned into pXg really soon after I quit, and it seems that went on for a while. Most of the people I hear of now started when it was pXg which kinda makes me sad because they are all people I never played with. I was already a fossil before they even began. When you look at it that way, Deathrun lasted a lot longer than it probably should have, or could have.
