Trump was not against nato, he was just trying to force germany and other european nations to pay for their agreed 2% of gdp on defence which they hadnt been doing for years. How he said that is very misleading
Bill Taylor does not like Trump. He was part of the failed impeachment process that accused trump of bribing Zelensky. It only makes sense why Vice would bring him on lmao

If you actually listen to actual experts in Ukraine or other Western News agencies that are confident in the job they do, they will all generally point somewhat towards the side that more or less give a message that says "An actual large scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia is unlikely." It's disappointing how some news agencies fear mongers of a Russian invasion of Ukraine though it's not any better than the crap coming out of the Russian state media.
@@kynn884 if you actually listened he is saying both Obama and trump were insufficiently hawkish on Russia and should have sent more weapons to Ukraine
I’m not sure I understand Bill Taylors perspective here. So the last 2 times he invaded Ukraine under the same circumstances, did the threat of our sanctions stop him then???
Yea, it kinda did. Putin was aiming for novorossiya, a bigger chunk of Ukraine. Sanctions forced him to negotiate, the Russian backed separatists said they wanted all of Ukraine.
Yep, third world dictator Vlad Putin was flaccid to do anything. When President Obama placed sanctions on Russia, their economy was crippled and Putin, was too impotent to war. Then Vlad ordered traitor trump to lift the sanctions. Traitor trump, being a weak and submissive president, did as ordered and now here we are.
@@slickrick2420 exactly. This is good discussion thank you all for the thoughts, interested in different perspectives too. That’s my thinking - yes, sanctions make things more difficult, but he literally annexed Ukraine territory both times…why would he not do it a third despite the sanctions? This guy is one of the few intelligent persons who've talked about Russia/Ukraine. The Russian economy be hammered by an invasion; A lot of Russian blood will be spilled that could foment domestic instability give insufficient moral/morale purpose for an invasion. Russian soldier will lack moral purpose. Russian soldier see Ukrainians like themselves and identify with them. Putin lacks the military required for a full scale invasion and subsequent occupation and counter insurgency. Any invasion without clear objective accomplishment with have no good exit strategy making Putin look like a fool trapping Russian soldiers in Ukraine for no reason.
you have already torn our economy to shreds with sanctions, what are you afraid of? you have been applying them for 8 years without a break. Even if nothing happens, sanctions will be imposed 100%.

when the people of ukraine are forming there own government and taking government buildings and actually fighting back I think the state of ukraine has failed, its only being held up by individual NATO allies.
@Carter Fontaine if the people don't fall the capital wouldn't fall. The military and citizens unfortunately in a very literal way must obviously fall. If the people don't fall the capital wouldn't fall....
You don't need to kill the people if you destroy their and freeze their economy. By capturing the capital and the government, the country will stop function. Then you just need to blockade all forms of trade, the country will destroy itself.
An insurgency by Ukrainians if Russia took over Kyiv would be a pain in the ass for Russia - just look how the Taliban and such were a major problem for the USA in Afghanistan
@@kingkea3451 yeah but the cultural difference between russians and ukranians isn't that great. and looking at Afghanistan, would forming an insurgency be worth it considering the human cost and the failed state result? In this case they speak the same language basically.
A political upheaval within a country is a lot harder to defend against than a literal invasion. Its pretty clear why the US has different stances on these issues.
I guess Ukraine is another Yugoslavia, yes? It appears the nationalism is not strong enough to hold onto folks who think they are not a natural part of the country, so it means that the separatists will probably get their way sooner or later. When you look at the dozens of maps that try to show the language splits among the different areas in Ukraine, there is a suspicion that more than the Donbass may be involved if parts start splitting off. This could be a real mess - especially if the superpowers get involved. Maybe we just have to let Ukraine figure it out for themselves. Hear that, Putin and Biden?
Did anyone see the Russians coming in 2014 when they annexed Crimea? If Russia was going to invade the Ukraine it would of already happen before the US and NATO could react.
Not really only because no one wants war and won’t expect Russia to attack just like Britain and France didn’t expect Germany to invade Poland. So even though nato is “expecting” it to happen they won’t be ready to react. Since ww2 it’s all talk no bite
Not how the NATO 5th article works. They're bolstering NATO countries currently. Ukraine is a non-NATO member but they are considered a partner as they have intentions to join
I am from Latvia (a NATO country) The only thing provoking Russia is democracy. Russia has no problems with China or North Korea, Belarus. Countries with corruption, censorship, dictatorship. As soon as Ukraine started on the path to democracy, problems began. Bad comparison with Mexico. The United States has not recently annexed part of Mexico, and the US president has not openly expressed the view that Mexico should not exist. The United States is not concentrating its forces on the Mexican border. Russia is doing all these things. If the United States did all that, Mexico would have every right to ask for help.
Note all the former soviet block countries are once again telling us, we told you then, and we are telling you now again ! which of course Ukraine and Georgia have always taken on board, however what makes things different is the fact that traditionally neutral Sweden and Finland last month both revisited the idea of NATO membership, Putin is sure contagious ?
I'm from Serbia and I'm telling you to talk nonsense, why NATO bombed Yugoslavia in 1999, ie Serbia and Montenegro, so that I could tell you that we were not a sufficiently democratic society, so NATO showed us what true democracy is, answer me because I see that you are pretending to be very smart.
What will determine when Russia invades? When the ground begins to thaw where they are located. Russia will have to move before the ground becomes too unstable to support their heavy vehicles.
@@newcoatresurfacing5477 doesn't have to do with vehicles. The f'n ground won't hold up the weight when the ground thaws until it dries out to hold the weight of armored vehicles and tanks. Look at it this way, I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you. Have a nice day 😆

Don't present American speakers from either party -- they can't get past their own self-interested infighting. What do the Germans say? The French? The Poles? The Belorussians? Can you, for once, give the American people news with some substance in it, instead of the usual empty noisy palaver?
Anybody from the Trump administration would also have zero credibility -- just to make it clear that my comment is not the usual American "I hate the other side" crap.
The Russians have fought 14 wars the last 30 years taking teritory from their neighbours or created areas that are now under Russian control. This has gone on because they can do it and there is no NATO precence. If you are a small nation bordering to Russia you are not free to do as you want in your own country if not in NATO. The only thing keeping Putin from invading is the fact that he will be thrown out of the European and American Market making Russia a Chinese slave.
@@sorennilsson9742 I'm still not convinced Russia will invade Ukraine. I think it's more likely posturing than anything else. NATO has been getting closer to Russia boarders for the last 20 years. They rightfully view that as a threat. Ukraine will never be a NATO member for many reasons the least of which is the level of government corruption. So what does NATO have to lose if they emphatically say that Ukraine will not become a NATO member? Such a statement would go a long way towards getting Russia to back down. Then there's the issue with the eastern part of Ukraine. It's historically had a large Russian population. The breakup is the USSR created problems that separated people from what they viewed as their home country. There was an agreement to let the people vote on what they wanted to do. The west didn't like the results. It's not our problem and if Russia does invade we need to stay out of it. Everything America has done for the last 20 years has only made things worse with Russia. It's pushed them closer to China. If what we've done hasn't worked then why don't we try something different? Maybe we can put a wedge between them and China. That would make the world a safer place. Russia buy itself is not a significant threat to the US or Europe. Their economy is to small to pay for any major military campaign. They can't afford to build 5th gen fighters or new tanks.
