I like the fact that your using different tractors to show off these attachments. Showing the good and the bad sides is why your channel prospered. Keep on pushing these tractors.

Helpful tip: reverse the old seal and use that to tap in the new seal.the outside edges always line up and you won't damage the new seal

I appreciate your honesty. Every tractor has a different application. This may not be right for you, but you use your tractor differently then anyone I've ever seen. How many people here will use any of these implements on a compact? Majority of compact owners will only use a finish mower, bush hog, and tiller on the pto. If those will connect, then most owners will be fine.
@TractorTimewithTim
@TractorTimewithTim 2 года назад
Correct. Likely no one will use ALL the attachments we do. However, once you have a tractor, you might see a new attachment that would help you with a specific need. We hope to help you see if that attachment will work on your machine.

Other "might" be fine. That fact that Kubota is using the stubby shaft and different spacing dimensions can affect lots of normal attachments even if it is just because the pto shaft collar is a little bit to long... If you find a deal or a particular piece of equipment you want it's good to have this knowledge before you buy so you don't have the lesson and cost after the purchase.
@wickedcoyote271
@wickedcoyote271 2 года назад
I disagree. The issues he is finding here could affect any implement regardless of size. If the PTO does not follow the standard, then how do you know before purchasing the attachment that it will not have an issue. So, what this is pointing out is that you need a compatibility list from the manufacturer, or only purchase implements from the manufacturer that are guaranteed to work. At least what is being shown here is a warning to look closely at the implements and ensure they are stubby shaft and tight space compliant. My real question is, is this documented in the Kubota owners manual?

As an LX2610 owner, I appreciate the insight Tim. Certainly every color tractor has things that can be improved upon. Your channel was the one that originally set me on the path that led to my tractor ownership. What would it say about me if I now dismissed what you said as "bias" simply because I ended up with an orange tractor? Similarly, you don't strike me as the sort of man who needs to "bash" one brand simply because your a fan of another. I have little/no need of many of the attachments you demonstrate, but love watching them all. Keep the great content coming! 👍

Two things Tim. Is there a PTO extension that will work or did I miss you telling? Second: can you imagine just how much harder this video would have been if you didn't have your tractor lift? That's the first thing I thought of. Replacing that seal is so easy with it being 5 foot off the ground. Otherwise you're laying on the ground fighting with that seal but also that pump would have been a bear to put on. Very good video of you explaining the problem and what to watch out for. I would have never thought about there being any problems hooking up the pump. Thanks for going into the detail that you did.

That grease gun is nice, looks like it's much cleaner to change out cartridges. One word of advice for anyone who uses a power grease gun. Don't use them on EZ lube hubs, the pressure can blow out the seal and you won't know it until grease is flung out, and if its on a brake hub, you wont have brakes. My B2410 is so easy to work on, a few years back the front axles seals were leaking, those are the ones at the joint between the axle hub the wheel attaches to and the differential hub. It took a couple hours, but was a simple replacement job. I think the repair parts cost me under $100 for all the seals. I like my B2410 so much that I just ordered an L4060HSTC to do hay with. 20 years and other than less than $200 in parts, it has been a really good reliable machine. The battery itself lasted 16 years.

Tim I praise you again for making this video and pointing this out to all of us. I think it's becoming pretty clear that the LX3310 is an inferior design. Now we know why Kubota wanted to control the content.
@lcee6592
@lcee6592 2 года назад
I have a B2650 and have no issues with its “inferior” design. Yes Kubota should follow industry standards regarding the pto. I wholeheartedly agree. However keep in mind John Deere FELs do not meet industry standards for skid steer quick attach. JD might be the only manufacturer on earth that requires you must buy their FEL attachments or forget it. So one could call this an “inferior” brand of tractor. But the folks at John Deere had/have their reasons for ignoring the industry standards on skid steer quick attachments. Point being any tractor can be picked apart if you start looking. Maybe with Tim pointing this problem out it will inspire Kubota to change the shaft length and offer a replacement for existing ones. Maybe someday JD will finally conform to skid steer standards and make it much easier for all owners of their tractors.

@lcee6592

@@TractorTimewithTim I understand that. The point was JD is not compliant with “standard skid steer attachment protocol when 99%? of other manufacturers are. I was simply responding to the statement that Kubota tractors are inferior. I simply pointed out another example of non conformity. I have nothing against John Deere.
@TractorTimewithTim
@TractorTimewithTim 2 года назад
@@lcee6592 fair enough. …but you stated a MAJOR falsehood in your example. I had to call that out. As you know from watching our videos, there are significant advantages to the JDQA on subcompact tractors. I personally would be sorely disappointed if they switched. Also, to my knowledge, the ASABE standards group of all manufacturers has not created a standard for loader connectivity. They HAVE a standard for PTO to drawbar distance. In my opinion, your analogy is not apples to apples. …but interesting discussion nonetheless.

Tim, the pump is the similar as the one my dad used on the homemade wood splitter. My dad hard mounted the pump with a bar down to the hitch to keep the pump from spinning. But that was on a 1959 JD 430S. I hated installing that pump every time the wood splitter was installed on the tractor.

Great video! Another trick to avoid the leakage would be to hook up a shop vac to the fill port of the rear axle and let 'er rip. The vacuum will pull air through the gap where the seal was and prevent leaks. Works when you change hydraulic and hydrostat filters too!

I recently purchased a Split-fire log splitter that attaches to my 3-point hitch. It uses a hydraulic pump setup much like you show in this video. I have a 2025r and ended up removing the sheet metal shield that surrounds the pto shaft, but still am lacking in shaft length to secure the pump in a ideal fashion. The pto-link looks like it would add 5 inches which may just solve my issues and allow the shield to stay on the tractor. Agree the pump with hoses is heavy and unwieldy, but the 2025r doesn’t have sufficient hydraulic flow from the power beyond to adequately drive a log splitter so got the pto driven pump option. The log splitter is awesome and Split-Fire is awesome to deal with, maybe an idea for a future implement/video!

Thanks for these awesome videos again Tim. I do have to say though, the more I watch, the more biased I am towards John Deere. Well at least when it comes to subcompacts like my 1025R. I got a lot of criticism from people about how much more expensive Deere is as far as purchase price and cost of parts (as well as bs like bolts and nuts having separate part numbers and being sold separately instead of in a kit). These points are true, however it’s more than made up for with ease of use. Auto connect mowing deck, loader stand, quick attach buckets and forks being closer to the pin and lighter. It does seem to me that when you get into bigger tractors the playing field levels more but I’m definitely standing by my choice of green and yellow!
@eosjoe565
@eosjoe565 2 года назад
When I was shopping for a tractor folks told me not to buy a Kubota because the parts were too expensive. Now that I own a JD, I truly feel there isn't much difference in parts prices between the two. The parts for some items for both are way over priced. That same rear PTO seal on a 1-series is $32.98.
@demcburney
@demcburney 2 года назад
@@eosjoe565 the seal for the Deere probably doesn’t have the spring with it, and it’s a separate part number and is $8.50...but the pto shaft may be longer so it doesn’t get torn up! I wonder why Kubota makes the PTO shaft that way. I'm looking to order a B2601 so will have to keep this issue in mind w/the attachments I'm planning on - Thanks! I probably would've torn up a seal eventually w/o this vid! I like the 2025R but after much analysis, the overall differences between it (comfort, convenience oriented) and B01 series (more "real tractor" features) are distinct. Both have their place/market but for me the B01 makes more sense. In a subcompact the 1025R would be my choice and the next frame size up, I'm not sure what I'd get, but probably a 2038R - It truly seems like an excellent machine. PS - I bought a 5" Knipex (you didn't have it on your Amazon store!) awhile back and it's great! I'll probably get a bigger one for my toolbox. Now carry it along w/my Swiss Army Knife & 10' tape measure. I also picked up a little snap pouch (about 4x5) and when I carry that (depends on what I'm wearing) it has the aforementioned plus a 3" Starrett Steel Rule for more precise measurements, a 4" adjustable wrench (going to see if a 6" will fit), and a Klein 10-in-1 folding screwdriver plus holds my pen & marker which otherwise is in my shirt pocket. I can do a LOT w/all that and it's really not very big or heavy at all. Your vid on "what we carry" made me step up my game, lol.

Some great info there Tim. Kubota limited any larger attachments on that machine. Personally from a mechanics point of view I would not like all that weight of the pump hanging off the pto shaft bearings of the tractor. I feel they are not designed for that much constant load. I am just thinking there meant for the weight of a pto drive shaft. But I could be wrong, just a thought.

I think you are right. These tractors main goal is for small farms like horse farms, sheep, etc. where chores range from moving poop, to mowing grass, and not really meant to do heavy work such as what Tim tried to do with the front brush cutter. Companies made 3 point backhoes for these type tractors and stopped making them after reports of tractors breaking in half. This falls into that just because it could, doesn't mean it should. I think Tim found the limit to what this model tractor can and can't do. His video using a baler with the small R model shows, it can, but it really shouldn't. MTBF is calculated based on implements it was designed to use, using implements it was not designed for reduces the MTBF as seen here.

Very good info Tim. These pumps can be bought, at places like Tractor Supply, and Princess Auto in Canada. They are not what I would call cheap at $500-$700 depending on the size. Most of the time when you are going to get one of these pumps, you have only the finished project in mind, and completely forget about the little design problems that can occur to become a huge issue. Very good info for those with the Kubota's, although not a huge expense for you, some may not have the know how to do it themselves, and could run up into the $100's to transport to the shop, change seal, replace oil, and then get it back home. Also a question. So the chain that prevents the pump from turning is basically what holds it on the shaft?

I just replaced the PTO seal on my BX. I didn’t realize all the oil would spill out. Good thing for kitty litter. When you find a solution for the stubby shaft let us know. Unless I missed that solution.

Did you remedy the attachment which caused the issue?
@karlcarnevale4948
@karlcarnevale4948 2 года назад
Yes I did. I had a hydraulic leak. I wasn’t sure if it was the seal or a metal line. The tractor is about ten years old and was used primarily for snow removal. They had a PTO driven salter on the rear. Use and neglect took out the seal and metal line. I bought the tractor last year.

How about putting swivel ends on the hoses that attach to the pump. So you can lower the whole assembly without messing up the hoses. Then you can have some flex with the flexall hoses

Naturally when we see a leak we think of the worst! I’m glad this was a cheap easy fix! That big pump with stiff hoses would be difficult to handle. Even being a Kubota owner I really don’t understand why Kubota uses the stubby pto shaft on those tractors. Does other brands do that?

Folks and viewers it’s his tractor 🚜 if you can’t say something nice don’t say nothing at all. Stuff like this I love to watch. If my grandfather was alive it be under neath a hood of a car with a carburetor/points. So anything mechanical ⚙️ I tend to watch to pass it on. So if you have a neighbor with the same issue save him/her a trip to the shop. Yes my grandfather owned his own garage long before my time. When you dialed a single number -maybe two-three other numbers days.

Clean tractor seal base with acetone (remove all oil)...put loctite retaining compound on outside of seal ,...put grease on inside of seal wipers..gently tap seal in with wood dowel rod..."yahsee"..Bob's your uncle

One way to stop all the oil coming out is if you park the kubota on a hill or put it on a incline so you shouldn’t have as much mess

That's unfortunate about the stubby shaft limiting the use of certain attachments. There must be an extension coupling available that has an allen set screw to hold in place, so it doesn't need to go too far in to damage the seal.

I am glad it wasn't a costly mistake Tim, we live and we learn... As for this Kubota you have, do you feel Kubota basically considers this tractor comparable to the John Deere's 3E series machines? I know that series are basically made to be allot less capable then the R series in almost every regard and cannot even support things like mid-mount mowers. I just don't understand why they handicapped this machine in this manner unless they did it for the price point.
@TractorTimewithTim
@TractorTimewithTim 2 года назад
No, L matches up to 3E. Lx really has no match in Deere line. Large 2R better in almost all categories.

As much as I like your videos this one confused me! The word "universal" kept on popping into my mind for some reason. There must be a universal PTO shaft extension out there. But for now I'm glad all I got is a little lawn tractor with no PTO! Best regards, Jay
@TractorTimewithTim
@TractorTimewithTim 2 года назад
There may be a special extension. The problem is that this shaft is non standard. It is shorten than the standard specifies. While I knew that, I was not fully sensitized to the fact that many standard PTO connectors will not work on that stubby shaft. I should have looked closer. If so, I would have realized that the PTO extension I have would rub that seal. With only a few exceptions, all 540 RPM PTO’s over the last 80 years have been a standard length. Why Kubota ignored this is beyond me.
@CapeAnnImages
@CapeAnnImages 2 года назад
@@TractorTimewithTim Thanks for the reply, it makes it clearer for me. Perhaps Kubota had another option for that tractor as far as the PTO goes.

Great information to have. I do wonder if there is a pto extension, that uses a roll pin to keep it in place. It would mean a more permanent solution, but could it help, if said device exists?

Tim, you do know that PTO Link makes a model of their linkage system for B and LX Series Kubotas? (as well as other sub-compacts with the shorter PTO) You had the wrong model on your LX. Enjoy your videos, been a subscriber for years and really enjoy your content. Merry Christmas from Ottawa.

I ran a similar pump on my L2501 for a 3point backhoe the sway bars for the 3point are on the outside of the 3point arms. I didn't have a pto extension so I removed my pto shaft shield which I know is a big no no but I'm missing a chunk of a thumb on one of my hands so connecting pto shafts is a pita anyway.

I think the 3 point stabilizers are much closer on the LX than the L. Not much space in there!
