I had looked at Knukonceptz for my power & ground wires originally but wound up using welding cable. Much much cheaper and Made in the USA. For RCAs & speaker wire, I used Knukonceptz. I'm using the Krystal Kables RCAs. Absolutely love them. 👌
My old supervisor had a saying about wire length and it was plenty! You can always use short lengths on the cabinet interiors he’d say. It was true then and still remains so! Good video Mark and using the former video to reference wire and fuse sizing!👍🏻
I think where a lot of people tend to get confused is that they think they are protecting the amp, not the wire when in many cases you are protecting the wire to protect it from burning your car down. You also can't use to big of a fuse either, or it will literally be useless in a dead short situation
Wire protection sizing... YES Please!!! And thank you for everything you have done for the community we really learn a lot and enjoy the experience. 🍻cheers🥃
I always buy more fuses than I need in case I ever blow any... I would hate to have to go without bass because I don't have a spare fuses on tap to replace a blown one.
@@k3v24 Buy way more power cable than needed so you don't have to ask your old lady again to buy more later. She can't tell you no if you already have it! Buy your rca at the proper length...
Thanks for the subwoofer sealed box design for a jl audio w3 ... everything got install this past weekend ... JL Audio package . Speakers, amplifier and subwoofers .. kept the head unit stock I'm using DQ-61 Audio control DSP the Amplifier is the Jl audio RD900/5. ... Happy Holidays
I'd like to add that adding a fuse is NOT to protect your system, it's to protect the wire. Your equipment has it's own fuses to protect it. If your wire shorts, it will no doubt pull more power than the wire can handle, no matter how fat your wire is (batteries can output hundreds of amps and will happily do so given a short) and it will heat up and cause a fire. A general rule of thumb is to use wire that can carry TWICE the amperage of the fuse you're using to protect it. So, if you're using 80 amp wire, use a 40A fuse. Fuses will normally not pop until they are taking ~150% of the rated current anyway, so a 40A fuse (usually) won't pop until around 60A of current. Just to recap, a fuse is to protect the WIRE and a good rule of thumb is to make sure the wire can carry TWICE the current than the fuse is rated.
I used a single 8 pin pcie plug to run my 200w infinity basslink. I Bought a pcie extension cable off of Amazon and cut it for $5. Very nice quick disconnect with positive, remote, and negative. The downside is that it takes careful soldering and heat shrinking and I wouldn't recommend without using lead solder. A larger amp would require more than one cable and probably terminal blocks instead of solder, because soldering large wires becomes impractical.
great work as always.. would love to learn more about distribution blocks and whether they are important at all.. my last build didn't have any so i'm wondering what advantage they're going to provide..
My Pioneer amplifier (1000 watt) manual says to use two 30 ampere fuses in parallel at the battery instead of one 60 ampere. There's only one power cable. Go figure. Anyway, I chose to use 2 AWG wire instead of 1/0 - I also used 2AWG for my "big 4" electrical upgrade instead of 1/0 (along with an alternator upgrade). There's only a 0.1 VDC voltage drop in the power wiring to the amplifier so I'm good. Installers should consider using the Blue Sea Systems 2151 Dual MRBF Terminal Fuse Block and their fuse(s) at the battery instead of the inline fuse holder - no pigtail required. That's what I used for my Mustang install but I don't know if that's doable on my Nissan Xterra because of that weird fuse block assembly directly mounted to the battery terminal. If I remember, I'll report back when I get the chance to do the Xterra - the cost of doing this stuff is slowing me down.
Mark do you have a more in-depth video on signal cables? Like what to look for, what really matters when choosing, and good brands. I haven’t been able to find specific information on what all makes up a good cable. I’m looking at $200+ stinger signal (rca) cables but I do t know if it’s really worth it? I trust your knowledge. Hope I didn’t miss a video... Thanks 🙏
Fusing and wire gauge: Read amp owners manual, its not an arbitrary thing. Also read a table about maximum amperage and wire length. If 4 gauge was specced and you put 0 gauge that was massive overkill and a waste.
Hey Mark that techflex....what size would I need for 1/0 gauge? Like 5/16 or close to 1/2inch? I can't figure it out and never used this type of product before
I want to import these wires, connectors, wire distribution and sound equipments to Brazil. Do you recommend any vendor/seller? After watching your videos I want to work as a professional in this area! I'm watching all yours videos!
Pro tip 2 - Always experiment on the passenger side door, that way, if you mess something up the driver still has access while you fix your mess-up. Things happen...
@@CarAudioFabrication Do you mean the Karma wires? I need to run 8 wires from original audio system to the DSP.... What is the best solution for that? By the way i ordered the AudioControll DSP that you suggested in your videos :)
can I use same wire on power wire and ground wire ? I mean buy only one red 4gauge wire tu use on power and ground at the same 4gauge same type, then can I use 4gauge wire + 100Amp agu fuse for mono amplifier 500watts rms ?? thank you
Hi,I bought 6x9 reference speakers for my car. Where is the optimum position to install this. Back door, or parcel tray as 'free air', or in an enclosure? I installed components in the front door
Brother, I have a 2013 Chevy equinox with a 4 cylinder. I want to do a big 3 upgrade. I have 1/0 wiring. There seems to be a hall effect sensor. Could you help us GM equinox/ Terrain owners with this? There seems to be confusion as to how to run wires in this application. Thank you in advance!!!!!!
There may not be a break in current, but is it not true that the more you break the current the more it will weaken(within the same amperage)? For instance, would it not be better to have a a solid connection for each component rather than a distribution block to each?
Dont connect the remote turn on wire to the antenne wire coming out of the radio. If you do the amp will only turn on when the FM/AM radio select is on. Just connect it to the key turn on wire which you can just connect to whatever power wire is non constent usually the red wire. Or just use a manual switch.
I'm sorry, you did a video a while back and you were talking about an acrylic speaker rings and was wondering if you had the rings for sale. I enjoy your videos though I don't really speak car audio lingo but I try to learn what I can. I also may have other questions.
