That’s all fine and good if it were exactly 173.5, but the problem with rounding up or down from .5 is that it’s probably already been rounded by the scale; it could’ve been 173.4986…. or it could’ve been 173.5493….
Yeah, just throw in the decimal point. People are quite neurotic about weights, so whatever you can do to help mess with their mental game, I'll take whatever advantage I can take!
The problem with rounding up or down from .5 is that it’s probably already been rounded; it could’ve been 173.4986…. or it could’ve been 173.5493…. If you want to round to a whole number, some scales can be set to do that; otherwise I would put the decimal.
I'm a microbiologist and the scientific way of rounding a 0.5 number is to always go to the even number. So the 173.5 goes to 174. But if it was 174.5, it would also go to 174. Or 172.5 goes to 172. Never end on an odd number.
If I’m starting with a new mold I’ve never thrown, I could care less about the .5 difference. But if I had one labeled 174.5 that I lost and wanted to replace, I would want the exact same weight again. So I appreciate the .5 labeling
Use two different markers. Put on website stating that if the last digit is a different color it has been rounded either direction. Now people who really care that much about weight knows if it is not accurate.
Rules say round up. Also, unless the production plant is exceptionally moist, the disc is going to soak up moisture in real life. Also, a difference of even a few grams is, well, indifferent. It's elementary.
I'm a whole number person for disc weight, so conventional rounding method is fine. I have seen places go to the half when writing the weight, I'm not that precise in what I'm throwing. Nor can I really tell the difference of part of a gram.
Innova started the trend with 173-5. The problem is, sometimes it already looks like 173,5. My suggestion is mark it "MAX" if it's even a bit over 173g, and round up at .5 on all other occasions.
Rounding isn't a "fact" lol rounding is a matter of simplifying numbers to make solving problems for a ball park answer easier, everybody just agreed that 5 rounds up. We're talking about a real world object, with real weight. No math is being done, the rule for rounding doesn't apply. So it doesn't matter lol
It's easy if for some reason writing a . Can't happen for some reason. Over .5 you round up. Below you round down. Pretty easy. Or just write 169.7, 170.3. No big deal.
Drop the 1. We all know it's 100 and some odd grams. Instead of 165.5 write 65.5. That's if adding a 4th number and a decimal is really too much I suppose 😂
