This actually happened, but let me clarify a few things. Interpreters typically don’t earn such high amounts for interpreting concerts. The significant payment was due to the additional task of interpreting and posting content. However, I was still surprised by the offer.
Not to mention, even though it was just a concert, it goes against our professional ethics as interpreters to take on dual roles. If I were there as the interpreter, I wouldn’t feel it’s appropriate to simultaneously vlog my experience and post content. This would create a conflict of interest.
For these reasons, I declined the offer and provided them with a list of other qualified individuals whom I believe would be suitable for interpreting an event like that.
