You’re absolutely right! The old saying “What you don’t know can’t hurt you” certainly does not apply to riding a motorcycle! On a motorcycle, what you don’t know can kill you! Thanks for all the examples and information you provided.
🇬🇧 Love the huge empty open spaces you guys in the USA have to practice. Just glad i have loads of twisties and narrow streets with potholes everywhere to practice countersteering etc. 😁👍🇬🇧

@@motorman857 I STILL HAVE 4 motorcycles. But had a stroke in my left eye. Left it partially blind. I still love riding but list my confidence. Most of my experience the last 30 years was in asia with very few trafic regulations just common sense and good judgement

Sadly, weekly, a motorcycle rider looses control in a curve, simply because they don't know THE RIDER controls how the bike tracks through a curve. When the moment comes to MAKE the bike track where the rider wants it or needs it, the rider who doesn't know what to do to make that choice, and looses control/crashes. Too many times I've heard from students "the bike wouldn't make the turn." No, YOU didn't make the bike make the turn. Most of the time, for riding in general, the bike tracks where needed with very little concious effort or input, and that is what gives riders the false feeling they know what they are doing. Because when the moment arrives that requires accurate specific input that rider freezes up not knowing what to do. Decades ago, bikes of many styles and sizes required more input to control. In the last 20 years most bikes have such neutral steering that it takes very little input to control the result desired. That is, until the moment of accurate trained/practiced control must be applied or the bike tracks off on its own. Or worse, the rider does not let the bike track as it can/should. Riders make bikes crash.
I thought everyone done this kind of thing when warming up the tires in the first 10-20 minutes of a ride?I love the hell out of trying to weave between the white lines before really hitting the road.But....I live in the middle of nowhere so it's no big deal not looking like a noob in front of a ton of people 😏
Hi Jerry, can you comment on bikes like the BMW R18 that have linked brakes such that if you use the rear brake it will also apply 30% pressure on front brake i.e. would you still use the rear brake for better stability in the slow tight turns?

I would like to buy your Ride Like a Pro book. Does your book discuss the easiest and safest way to shift gears? I'm a beginner rider and struggle with shifting into 2nd/higher gears. Should I roll off the throttle, pull in the clutch, and shift up or down all at once?
Hey Motorman, Can you do a video on panic braking? Or proper use of the front brake. I've been in a few spots lately where a cager was changing lanes into mine (granting I was in the blind spot as I was passing on the right). My first instinct was to hit the brakes, but it seems I always use too much rear brake, and lock the back wheel. Non ABS bike. How does a rider build confidence to use the front brake hard in those situations?
