Six weeks ago I started working to bring back to life a shop that had been on vacation mode for about a year. Conversion rate for those 6 weeks has been 1.5%. But three weeks ago I came across your videos and have been following your advice as if I'm opening a new shop. Conversion rate for just the past two weeks is 2.5%. And the past week, 2.8%. So onward and upward. I've got more of your advice to apply, including the advice in this video, which is eye-opening but makes so much sense. I appreciate your videos so much. Thank you.
I’ve been selling since August 20, 2023 and my conversion rate is 8.1%. I’ve 775 visits and only 63 orders. I didn’t even know to look at the conversion rate until I saw this video. But, because I follow you faithfully, and do my SEO the way you said from day one, and include good photographs and a video for each listing, I think I’m off to a good start. My store only has 18 products (so far) and they are my own digital products. I do not do Etsy ads and do not drive traffic to my Etsy shop from social media (because you said not to). Thank you for your videos!
hey guys listen to this guy ! I have been listening to him since the opening of my store on July 25, I have made 325 sales and I am at 7% of conversation, I sell digital images. Thank you for giving us very good advice !! God Bless You !!
Yes, that bait and switch pricing is disgusting. Treating a buyer like they are stupid should be banned by Etsy. Showing an adult sweatshirt picture with a $7 price in the thumbnail makes Etsy sellers look stupid. Great video!
I really don't like that at all! I have a custom design coming up like that, showing the lowest price (for an add-on item) in the thumbnail. I think I'll just have to add it as a separate product.
My conversion rate for the last 30 days is only 1%. But whats scarier is if I filter it for one day..say today, or tomorrow, it says ZERO! Now I'm making sales, not a ton, but I'm fairly busy. How can this be? By the way, I love your videos, your info has helped my sales, I noticed it right away by just implementing a few simple things you said. Time for another appointment though, because I got lot of questions for you! Thanks again Nick, you rock!
My overall conversion rate is 4.9%. I have a digital shop and started in June. I started watching your content in July and decided to add digital supplies to my shop and I'm at 32 sales now with only 70 items in my shop. Somedays i only get 1 or 2 views, and I get a sale, so my conversion rate for the last two months is pretty high. (9%) I just got my first 3 reviews a few days ago, and customers messaging me asking if i can design certain items and add them to my shop. Quality score is everything!
My conversion rate is 1.5%. I'm in my fourth month...selling digital art. 33 Sales. I had ads going for the first 3 months...before I found you. I"ve had them off for a few weeks now. I had really consistent traffic while they were on. Now its all over the place. One day I'll have 9 views, next day 53, next day 1. I'm so confused. I have spent likely 10 hours daily on this since my kids went back to school. I'm following everything you suggest...but boy, getting organic traffic is not easy.
Right there with you. My digital sales are even less. My second digital store has actually cost me money because of the ad’s I ran (ad’s are TERRIBLE idea on items with $2 profit). Will very likely shut it down since the recurring listing fees on well over 100 items is just going to eat at ANY sales I make.
Hi, you are doing VERY well, those stats are way above the average client I work with on a day to day basis. This work is extremely hard, you have to build inventory, your store needs to get to 100 items and beyond to get decent organic traffic, there is a ton of competition out there, so bigger stores will rack up more views.
My conversion rate is 6.6% for 2024 so far. I have a punny letterpress greeting card and sticker shop that has been around since 2010. I peaked in 2015 and then again in 2021 and since then it's been kinda wonky and inconsistent. I've been loving your videos so I hope to finally break 10k sales this year. Your advice is realistic and brilliant so thank you!!! ☺
Could you please consider doing a video about the gurus and the realism of the information? Not naming names or anything specific. I think lots of people are confused by reports of six and seven figure stores. We know they exist, we can see them when we search Etsy, but what is realistic in 2023 for new sellers? And what does it take really to stand a chance of a good full time income? Your advice is very different to most of the other promoted videos. Personally my POD store has a tiny conversion rate and does not make sales. I have watched videos that suggest you can offer multiple diverse POD products in a store, and seen some successful stores do this. But generally, what is the best way to do POD well on Etsy? Is it a more tightly focused product category? Some suggest people only care about the listings and find you through that, rather than caring about the look of the store?
Hi, handily I have a video related to your first sentence premiering tomorrow evening, try to watch it if you can..link is below: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Rkwv6d28xhE.html
Could you do a short video covering what your recommendations would be for POD sellers in regards to product photos and videos for sellers with a small budget with the current Etsy Mockup debacle that's going on?
Here are my recommendations based on what you said: 1 Use POD supplier mockups (free and easy, but a bit rubbish) 2 Photoshop the POD supplier product image on to another mockup and edit that (free, but not easy)
Are you a digital store? I'm also 4 months in with 33 sales and a rate of 1.5%. I had a few sales here and there, then early September I had 4 sales in one day...then nothing for two weeks and only a couple since.
@@nejdrah hi , no I’m a physical product store, I make and ship all the items myself , I don’t sell digital products but would definitely look into it in the future by opening up a second shop x
I what’s your opinion on one of those dressmakers life-size busts that is from the waist up without a head for Necklaces. and wood carved wood neck? Thank you. I’m really loving your vids. May set up an appointment
Hi John, compared to say putting the necklace on a table (which is awful), I would say it is a slight improvement, but still pales in comparison to model shots.
I have watched most of your videos. Jan 1, 2024 I plan to start listing an item a day. What worries me is my husband makes one of a kind hand turned wood items, such as pens, bowls and vases. There will always only be one typically. How does one maneuver around this? Or is Etsy not the place. We have other outlets but we keep hearing list on ETSY to reach more people. I make wood Art utilizing my lasers, wood barn quilts, wood landscapes and mountain scenes. Honest thoughts, nothing offends us. 😊
Hi there Deborah, thanks for your comment. I recommend that you list your inventory for each item as at least 20 items, it doesn't matter if you don't physically have them available.
Great video! Regarding poor sellers- do they need to be deleted from the shop - or is deactivating them enough to effect the conversion rate? Thank you!
Brilliant video! The conversion rate varies daily though (for today for example I had 6.5% with 31 visits) while tomorrow it could be significantly down or even zero. For my shop it's the return of the repeat buyers that will mostly define my conversion rate. What time frame would be most valuable to evaluate the conversion rate - daily, weekly, monthly? Also, the upcoming holiday season will definitely change your conversion rate. Thanks for the lovely and informative videos!
Thanks. Overall lowest meaningful comparison is yearly on a month to month comparison so EG June 2023 against June 2022. Anything lower and you will get lost in numbers that will just worry you!
Hello. Thanks for sharing your knowledge on here. I don’t understand why you say SEO is not that important. How do you get people to go to your store? I have 104 listings and only have sales from family. I have yet got a sale from a person I don’t know. I do have a pod store. I hardly have any views and I run sales on my products. I don’t know how to bring people on Etsy to my store if SEO is not that important.
SEO is important, what he is saying is that SEO is not what ranks your products, your quality score is. You still need decent SEO, but so may gurus are saying that your SEO is what ranks you, and that isn’t the case at all. They’re basically saying that if you have the best SEO, your products will be on the first or second page, due to that SEO. He has a couple of videos on SEO, he is saying, you can have the best SEO, and still be on the last page, because that isn’t what ranks you.
Hi there, thanks @MissMolly3377, correct. I have a video on how to rank, link below: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xKSXkjwoGiQ.htmlsi=QN2vBeI9qvG_q297
It's a bit more complicated, but thank you! Btw I sent you an email today, whenever you have time... would love a feedback@@etsyconsultant :) Thank you so much, Nik!
My conversion rate is 1.1% for past 30 days and 1.5% for all time (years even though I didn't work on it for 4-5 years). Guess it's not back...working on making it better.

My conversion rate is 8.7% and steadily increasing (12.2% for February). I don't see my views and visits increasing in line with this though which confuses me. Any thoughts on why this might be? For reference, I sell greeting cards and my shop was established in october 2023. Thanks for another informative video!
Unfortunately, I'm embarrassed to say that, I too, fell into these You Tube pitfalls, receiving bad advice as a new seller. I've been working 16 hour days for the past 5 months, creating and designing for my POD shop. I've had 19 sales, but feel so disappointed.
My conversion rate is up to .9 after six months. I recently added products that are made to order, a little less expensive and are becoming regular sellers, but my items are time consuming handmade products so I can't mass produce. Hoping to bring my conversion rate up by offering patterns and kits soon. I'm only able too keep around 20 items in my shop right now, but half of them are made to order, so I'm at least able to list them with high stock.
Hi there, thanks for your comment. It depends if you are making a profit, and how much time you are putting into it. feel free to book a call with me for advice: etsy-consultant.com/services/
Hi there, I'm about to open a woodturning store on Etsy and have started to turn a few Christmas tree ornaments (independently I may add, you are the only RU-vidr I watch/trust for Etsy information). Would this not be an appropriate product to stock? Your videos have been extremely helpful to me on my journey into Etsy, Thanks for your time and keep up the good work. Edit: I was also thinking a few Christmas themed products may bring in some extra traffic my way, Would this not be the case?.
Hi, and thanks for following my channel, I appreciate it. OK, if you are making the ornaments yourself, you have a MUCH better chance of succeeding. 95% of the people I am talking to have no intention of making any ornaments, and just want to use POD, this will not work overall.
I have a listing with 1776 visits and 372 favourites but only 7 sales. I've scrutinized it and cannot see why it isn't converting better. My question is - since the conversion rate is so pathetic, is this hurting my score despite the visits and favourites?
@@thewebheadgt Oh dear - I don't know. I assume all payment methods are provided. I'm obviously a newbie! But since I can't purchase one of my products, I don't know how to see what the customers see. Any advice??
i have a conversion rate of 0.3% 95 sales at 110 listings and 1 year old store, its not great, and i try to improve but i find it very hard, because my products require extremely expensive art to make, and the upfront investments are astronomical, i Sell very neesh Pillows with designs on them, and only keeping the shop growing costs thousands a month. i hope my sales will get me into net positive for the 4. Quarter.
Its been the third month since i started selling on etsy, i usually get 25 to 30 views and when advertised or given a percentage, it reaches to 55 to 60 views... But the organic views are 25 to 30 with two sales.... So if i calculate the way you said(views divided by two sale) , thats almost 15%.....
Hi Nick, your video is so helpful and I follow your tips. I want to replace listings of no sales with new ones. What do you suggest, to delete them or just turn them into manual till they disappear?
Haha I scroll passed the etsy video with a promotion from printify talking about the Christmas ornament and It has a lot of views I guess people really attracted to quick rich videos than something like this with gold value 😂
Hi there, it takes a lot of time and determination. This video may help on what not to do: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6yLaLqIJU0U.htmlsi=8gFRYuBTXat7-ALG
I think my conversation rate is about 1% in the supplies category but suddenly October has been dead and on other sites also. Although it’s only been 4 days. I’ll try adding videos to some of my listings. People have asked if a bead was the same on both sides.
Another great video. Started Etsy/POD shop 3.5 months ago doing mostly home decor (pillows, table runners) and notebooks. Have had 233 sales. Currently using Placeit for pillow mockups, they are good. but video lacking. Same for runners and notebooks. Making slides in Canva to compose a video for Etsy (complication of pillow mockups). What do you suggest for videos for POD home decor, short of buying a sample of everything which isn't realistic for me. Thank you!
Hi there, thanks for your comment. I would usually recommend buying the product, you can do it one at a time, or even resell the product once you have uploaded the video.
How are you overcoming the removal of 'other' in shipping options? I can no longer offer an Express Tracked option & Royal Mail International Standard is estimated 3-7 days by Etsy, which all UK sellers know is far too short
I'm having my a hard time getting any conversion. I have over 100 listings and no sales. What can i do? I have better mockups then when i started plus i add videos. I could use some advice..
Hi Joanne, if you take the time to create quality ornaments, (not POD), list a LOT of them, and do it all through next year, you have a fair chance of making sales next Q4. Most sellers I am talking about do not do this, or anything close to it, and will fail.
Hi, no problem, please book in for my 30-minute Etsy store critique on the link below: etsy-consultant.com/services/30-minute-etsy-store-critique/ A 12-point audit will be completed on your store prior to our consultation. I look forward to working with you.
#ProTip this guy is for real. Confirming it with the ornaments. I also got shite advice from a few other "guru's" about ornaments and i had to drop those guru's...
Hi Nick! Is the calculation for #views or #visits divided by #sales? I unfortunately decided to have phone cases and notebooks, thereby splitting niches, I thought hey, it's what I want to do. Alas. My conversion is now getting better, since I'm only publishing phone cases, I'm now at .98% I believe. I still have notebooks in my store, some are selling, but is the best advice to continue to let them expire and delete them, or can I just keep them inactive? Dang, that's a lot of work down the drain. Live and learn! 😅
Hi Nick, thanks for the suggestion. I have recently opened my store 3 months back and I have 30 listings of my paintings there and I have 0 conversion rate as I have got no sales. What should I do to improve ? 😢
Hi, and thanks for getting in touch! 30 listings is not enough, keep listing, and head towards 100 SLOWLY. At the same time, I would suggest booking in for a consultation with me, so that I can quickly identify all the weak points in your store, and get those ironed out. If you would like to do that, links to book in are below: Upwork: www.upwork.com/services/product/marketing-a-30-minute-etsy-problem-solver-video-call-with-the-world-s-best-consultant-1351219976669429760?ref=project_share Fiverr: www.fiverr.com/s/gBlpDb Website: etsy-consultant.com/services/30-minute-zoom-consultation/
I have a question about your comments on the Christmas ornaments. Is the problem ornaments themself, or is it just foolish to add things to your store you aren't known for? I ask because I've recently started a POD shop, and I really want to offer different types of products that fit the design ideas I come up with, as opposed to the single niche idea where I just make dog shirts till the end of time.
The 2 problems are: 1 Your store is not known for ornaments 2 99% or more of sellers will just churn out POD christmas ornaments that are all the same, this wont work. If you want to get sales, you have to put the effort in and will need to make the ornaments, and that is a whole different ball game.
If two different listings have the same conversion rate, but they are different prices, I’m guessing Etsy would favour the higher priced item as this means more money for them. Any thoughts?
Hi, if two listings have the same conversion rate, that is not where Etsy would start. Etsy will look at historical quality score first, one item might only have 20 visits a month and make 2 sales, but another item might have 200 visits a month and make 20 sales. The item with 20 sales is going to get higher visbility.
My shop was opened in September, and currently my conversion rate is 0%, but I'm still a new babby, so I'm not surprised. Question though, how do you price items? You said lower prices =/= more sales, but I feel my prices might be too high- Is there a way to know how to price things so they're not too low, but not outrageous? (POD seller)
Hi, go to the market and round up all the prices from a minimum of 20 stores and then price yourself in that range. Just so you know, POD margins are generally 8 to 20%
Hi Niki, if this is a digital store, this is not the end of the world, but these stats do mean you need to find out what your customers want to buy, and you did not mention how many items you have (very important in this equation).
No, no, no!!! You made a cardinal mistake! Or maybe it was just a slip of the tongue: Conversion is based on VISITS not views. Maybe you should correct that because it’s an important distinction!
Hi Nick, Great info! I travel around the UK or abroad. If I log into my Etsy account from different locations will I have issues with my account? Thanks!
Just checked my conversion rate for this month which is 2.1 and yesterday was 1.8 I’ve just stared adding yarn into my store and it’s going well would you advice to take out products with no sales, views or conversion thank you 🙌🏼
Great video as always. My question is if Etsy ads are not a great idea and don’t help with organic sales but ad sales make my overall conversion rate higher. Do I use ads to help conversion rate or not. My conversion rate this year is 4.6 right now but with ads turned off it has slowly been dropping. Not sure what to do about it. 102 items 701 sales
Great i found your page. i started my shop is september and etsy suspended it without any reason given to me. i’ve been appealing and i hope to get it back. is there any tips you can give to getting back a suspended shop?
Mine did too, they do that to all new shops. Just fill out the request and it will be released in a couple days. Don’t let this slow you down. Read the Etsy rules too, tons of important info for you.
@@LillyoftheValleyAZ Thank you Lilly. It slowed me down actually but i’m fine. I read all the rules, well most of it because it’s a lot and i appealed but it wasn’t re-instated so I tried to send an email or something. I hope i get it back but i’m not deterred. thanks a lot
So i sell digital items, clip art and the like. I started in July and only have 36 items. My conversion rate is 3.3% I have had 570 visits and only 19 orders. Is that even normal. I feel like that isnt alot of sales for the number of visits. I see people on here with lower conversion rates but am not sure what the means exactly.
To be fair , placeit videos are quite horrible for POD . I'd rather buy a blank tshirt or sweatshirt and make my own videos to show the inside , the outside for all my products.

Hi, this CR is a bit low, this means you are getting views that are not converting, and this means you need to look at your products/video/photography as a focal point.
Will newly selling holiday apparel negatively affect a shop that does not sell holiday currently? If all my items are not holiday related then I start listing holiday apparel I worry it will affect the overall score/conversion of my other apparel. Please let me know your thoughts! Much appreciated 💐
Hi, it is highly likely the holiday apparel won't sell well (if it does sell well, let me know!), and this will lower your conversion. If your store was built from the ground up as christmas related, and it had historically sold as a christmas store, then that would be different.
Yes, if you sell seasonal listings, they need to go in your store 3 months before the date, and you preferably need to have a history of selling those items.
This year 9.4% all time 7.4% been on Etsy 3 years….86 items in shop at the moment, I sell handmade cards, price I charge is £3.50 per card and 65p towards postage…found a niche in making feminine pretty minimalist birthday cards and new born baby cards…they are my best sellers and my own unique designs … I wonder if I should charge more but don’t want to price myself out of the market 🤷♀️
For last year I had 2% for this year 1.5% so far. I already started working on better photos and adding videos for item that not selling well. How long should I wait after updating photos before removing items that are not selling? Should I also remove items that sell rare (like 2 times a year) to get better conversion rate?
Hey Kate, I got your email FYI I will get to it when I can, constantly backlogged at the moment! The pricing tool is another Etsy nothing burger, it just annoys people, it isn't helpful in my opinion, and is often inaccurate. I would much rather they improve their customer service.
Hi, I would really like to know if im starting a new Etsy shop, should i upload, my normal content at the same time as the halloween/Christmas, etc stuff?
I think he has said to do evergreen items, a few times, for Christmas. Most people are looking for gifts, so people aren’t looking to buy something like a Christmas themed item, that the person will open on Christmas Day, and then not be able to use it after that. I mean, of course, you have families looking to buy matching shirts or ornaments, but generally speaking just upload your evergreen stuff, more so. Digital may be different, I’m not sure, but I have heard him say to do evergreen stuff. Like he said here, if you aren’t a Christmas store, don’t be adding Christmas ornaments, so I would imagine that applies to some of the other things too. Now, this may be different for sellers who have been on Etsy for years, but, as a new store, he says to stick with evergreen.
Hi, you should upload evergreen listings right from the start, and if you have Christmas themed items you can load them as well, just don't list too fast, 1 item a day is fine.
Hi, yes basically stick with evergreen, but they can try Christmas items to see if they can make some sales, but overall it is best to stick to mostly evergreen if you want long term success on Etsy.
I currently have 0.2, anyone with fewer?))) I've been on Etsy for 4 years. I'm unsure if I want more sales since everything is made to order, but I definitely aim to earn more)))
@@etsyconsultant To be able to add new listings, I need to physically produce the items, which are quite large in size. I already have around 200 of them (9 are ETsy picks), and I simply don't have enough space at home to store more))) I'm part of a seller group in my niche, and we all have the same conversion rate of 0.2%. I'm starting to wonder if it's just the niche?
