The problem with the States suing is that they are in the "student loan" business. Meaning they make money from the interest on student loans. So by reducing to 5% of income, then States can collect less interest.

As Jesse Ventura , said as governor of Minnesota, the government should not be in the business of making money and competition with the private sector . That is communism.

I consolidated in 2016. Turns out Navient (no longer with them) had me on Extended Repayment Plan for 8 years. Will I not get any PSLF credit for those loans (saying ineligible for PSLF/TEPSLF) for my years as a teacher during that time? ECF changed nothing on PSLF count. Conflicting answers everywhere.

I had several years of IBR from 2006-2018 then I did a consolidation and lost all of my prior years before that consolidation. I had navient and several other companies before it’s with my current Lon servicer. So I had exactly what you are talking about. My worst idea was to do this now my 90,000 loan is almost 141,000 because of interest and capitalized interest. What can I do? Is the Save plan going to help me? I don’t want to lose my length of credit like I did before 2018. Helped I owe a house without the house in my loans.

Graduated loans from Grand Canyon university back in 2015 DOE never notified about the Cordova class action lawsuit that closed in 2022. Filed for BD in 2022. Just got diagnosed with cancer. Now thinking about bankruptcy next year. Should i go back into save plan to get the 1x credit? OR will i still get that credit? Your videos are incredibly informative 👏

a lot of people in recovery from default missed this consolidation. a good idea is to form a group or letter to request another extension due to things that happened in july 24

Probably because you either asked for forbearance or it was assumed you asked for one when you applied for BDR.

I've already started watching this for the second time because I am not comprehending some important aspects. First of all, I thought that the deadline had passed in April/May. I had so much pressure on me during that time, I wasn't able to devote time to the waiver at that time, unfortunately, because you seemed to say I needed to download and utilize some kind of tool to research my loans first. Secondly, when you say the loans have to be held by the Dept of Education, does that mean if my loan is with Navient, it's not with the Dept of Ed?? My loans were consolidated years ago for IBR with Navient. Is that a sufficient consolidation? And now Navient has transferred my loans over to another servicer. Is the timing of this a coincidence?? Would it affect this adjustment at all? When you said you can use the One Time Acct Adjustment with these 3 plans, I'm not quite sure what is meant by that. Use the adjustment to enter into those plans or if you're already using those plans?? Anyway, I plan to rewatch for clarity but if I had known the deadline was still running, I may have applied by now.

I consolidated in October 2023 for the IDR waiver and have been in repayment with undergrad and grad for 30 years and still haven’t gotten the notification of forgiveness. OS EVERYONE supposed to receive the notification by Sept 1st?

Thanks for these videos! I’m a little confused by what is/isn’t enjoined by the suits against SAVE: if we have FFEL loans that might have hit 25 years in repayment, can they be forgiven under SAVE or does the injunction mean we should switch to IBR instead?
@stanleytate
@stanleytate Месяц назад
Good question! We don’t have clarity about whether the order blocked early save forgiveness or 20-25 year forgiveness. If it were me, I’d probably still go with SAVE, but I can see the argument about why you’d go with IBR.

@@stanleytate As much as I gathered from my research and reading various sources, it only aims to block the early SAVE forgiveness that Biden recently introduced (starting at 10 year). The 20-25 years have been in the books for various IDR plans for a long time now and those would not be affected.

Mine was forgiven, but I had to consolidate to a federal direct loan to do it, mine was held by the department of education, because it default, I got on the fresh start program, consolidated and joined save, but that was before the court ruling blocking save.

PS how do I apply? I tried to get the first adjustment for the 10,000 or 20,000 and was on the list until the republicans blocked the help Biden was going to give students. I haven’t heard anything since the loans started accruing interest in October of 2023. Thank you for any thoughts or advice. This is so important for graduates as well as current and new students.

Is the one time account adjustment written as part of the save program initiative that has now been blocked in full?? Or was it a stand alone policy that is going to still happen?

I was filling out the application for consolidation but the federal student loan website wouldn't let me finish due to the court interventions right around 6/30 and it didn't give me the option to finish until after 6/30 - but now I can go back and finish it - so I won't get the full time in repayment(deferments, etc) credit?

My understanding is that you can consolidate and still get the credit so long as it’s done by September 1.

Thank you for this valuable information. Glad to hear that the one-time account adjustment is still in effect if our loans are held by DOE. Do you think there is any recourse for those of us who took loans out for our grad programs at Goddard?

How does the Chevron decision by the Supreme Court affect student loans? 😢.
@Chris-fw1nc
@Chris-fw1nc Месяц назад
It correlates with how aggresive these conservative supreme court judges are reversing all previous court decision, much like the abortion laws. This and how project 2025 states they want to eliminate the Department of Education(unlikely) will affect or eliminate the overall forgiveness programs, including PLSF. Just vote Blue to mitigate this risk
@suncat9

The striking down of Chevron by the Supreme Court limits the ability of federal agencies to enact regulations that should be the responsibility of Congress. In other words, CONGRESS makes laws, not unaccountable bureaucrats within federal agencies.
