In my opinion, it depends on the specs of the head unit myself And if you have Mark Levinson or normal audio. for Normal audio I cant see any difference.
- Exactly. The Levinson sound was a $4k option. I chased it and got gps, a reversing camera and radar cruise as a bonus. (all of which I adore) No way in hell I'd change out the head-unit for some el-cheapo bit of junk. The car's designer is an opera-freak. The materials were chosen primarily for their sound qualities, appearance and durability next. The head unit knows how large the car is, where the seats and speakers are and does some pretty sexy time-delay wizardry with the DSP to give sound that's amazing.
With regards to the radio stations, if you go into settings and change the region to your specific region it should correct it. In terms of sound all you have to do is change the settings on your equaliser 👍
@@buddyjohnson1283 the stereo for factory look like this might have to dig around a bit. Joying android 10 units have optical out. Run optical out to a decent DAC or audio processor and get wrekt as your face melts to awesome sound.
I just got this unit installed by where I bought the car, as it was still under warranty and the OEM unit touch screen did not work. Liking it so far, but I'm like you, the old radio had better sound. That and now I need to remedy a couple of things because my back up camera doesn't work now. Thanks for your great videos!
You know there is a recall for dashboards and panels. You don't have to pay anything, call the Lexus and ask. They replaced my and I did not pay anything. Like a year ago. My is a 2009
I have the vertical/Tesla style screen. On mine the amp was turned off and the stock EQ was overriden by android EQ. By going through the settings I found this out and turned on the amp again and also deactivated android EQ and turned stock EQ back on. After doing this I don't really think the sound got much, or any, worse!
Hi, I got my android head unit install too but it's newer than yours. It come with DSP and workfine with mark Levinson amplifier, sound exactly like the original head unit, Google play working fine as well
Honestly the sound quality isn’t that bad to be quite honest I messed around with the equalizer and everything sounds pretty good for the most part. This unit is worth it in my opinion

One of the most basic audio engineering concepts, if you ask me. Insulation matters. Can't have the power cable touching the signal cable either, unless you buy expensive cables with good insulation.
I want to update mine because my original unit has some issues. It forgets the equaliser presets every time I start the car and the screen is starting to turn yellow from the bottom. BUT it sounds amazing and I don't want to risk losing that.
Can anyone help. When I first set it up I had no sound but was working and I had to just keep playing with it and out of no where the sound kicked on. Now a week later the music is playing but no sound again no matter what I try

GM Mark. Can you please tell me how to get the PIN number for my Lexus IS 250? The folks that owned the vehicle before my wife didn’t leave that information on the back of the aftermarket one that was installed. I’ve purchased the unit from Amazon and it’s almost been a year. The junk one either they installed or had someone else install. My wife took it to a place to have the new unit installed and the guy told her he couldn’t do it but, he could install another junk one just like the one that’s in there now for $600. I thought that would be pretty STUPID right!!! Thanks for your help and Please let me know as soon as you can?
Hi, 1) When listening to the radio, does the sound cut off and back on whenever there is a notification from the navigation app? or does the radio just go down in volume during a notification? 2) Any seatbelt error light? I have a Canadian model 2011 IS250 AWD 3) Is the volume of the radio and Bluetooth music the same? 4) When you answer calls, is the volume much lower than the radio? 5) Is the microphone built-in or is there a separate mic you have to run? I have an 08 350. The digitizer has failed. So now I'm debating getting a newer Android-Apple Carplay unit. Do I have to get the digitizer fixed first before upgrading or would it not matter?
@Marks Mod Diary, have you ever factory reset the headunit? My headunit only plays the passenger side speakers when the using RU-vid or any application from the unit itself, however if i connect to the Bluetooth and play from my phone all the car speaks work. Any recommendations? This issue jus came about 1 week now.
so about the sound quality, do you think maybe the Surround sound is gone from switching to android which cause the audio quality to drop. Or, compare to the OEM unit without surround sound, the audio is still worse than the android. ?
Unless the head unit has a DSP you will always get terrible sound quality. I have a mark levinson system and If I replace the HU it will defo have to be a good quality one with a DSP
I installed an ugly cheap brick of a back up camera on my 2013 IS250 RWD along with this same head unit. For me, completely removing the trunk liner/paneling pieces was necessary in order to connect my camera wires with the longer wires coming from the head unit up front, although plenty of wiring length on both parts came included and everything was more or less color coded to pair all the wires together. I had a hard time with the glow-in-the-dark emergency trunk opener plastic pull lever, while taking it off and when putting it back on (RU-vid guy called Tuner with Kids has a video on removing the IS trunk paneling etc). I chose to tap into one of the tail lights to power on and provide reverse signal for the camera, soldering those connections using the OEM taillights because I just don't care that much which could be part of my problem. Technically my camera works, however its not perfect since I have to manually select the 'TV' app to get the touchscreen to properly display video images from the camera every time I back up. Ideally I would like to have all four views functioning since this unit is apparently designed to accommodate more cameras. Perhaps someone else can explain how to do it right and correctly wire the video function at the head unit so that the screen display automatically switches over to video whenever the car is put into reverse? P.S. I like the more expensive OEM back up camera style better than some of the budget aftermarket cameras I've seen, hopefully you have better luck than me xoxo
Very interesting, I was looking at this one a while back but was able to fix the issue my stock radio was giving me. I may revisit this one. Does this support a backup cam by any chance? it would be nice to add that in too.
The physical buttons work to adjust all functions of the IS climate control based on my experience in a 2013 Lexus IS250 4DR RWD automatic. In this video he says that his touchscreen malfunctioned a couple of times but his climate control was not interrupted thanks to those physical buttons located just below the bottom edge of the screen. Sounds like he was able to continue using his air while he figured out what was going on with his touchscreen and apps? All climate control options are accessible from the 'Air Conditioning' app by selecting it from the touchscreen assuming the unit is working properly. From what I can tell, the physical push buttons on this unit seem to be directly connected to the OEM circuits allowing the new unit's buttons to work just like the climate buttons that were on the original unit.

The unit will allow connecting to the internet with a data sim or from a phone hotspot, your choice. The only issue with using the phone wifi is that the signal gets dropped and it can be inconvenient when driving on the freeway.
Were you able to modify the amp settings within the menu as others have suggested. I had the scosche install kit in my IS250 and the pioneer touch screen unit that I decided to go with had the exact same sound quality issue but was easily fixed by adjusting the amp settings within the menus
