I wanted to know how would you recommend networking. I also go to a non-target school and I am keen on learning who should I message on LinkedIN and what I should message about. I would like to know how to initiate that conversation with that employee and ultimately get a referral.

What is the target GPA for the big 3? Does it vary by major? Aka would someone who majors in engineering with a 3.6 have the same chance as a business major with a 3.8?

There's no exact equivalences, but the firms generally do take into account your major while looking at GPA (for example, a low-ish CS or EE major GPA would probably be looked at better than the same, low-ish GPA of a perceived "easier" major) And it's hard to say what a target GPA is, especially within the context of your resume, personal interactions, test scores, etc. so there are definitely other ways to stand out So I'd say, if you still have time to raise your GPA before applying, definitely do what you can. And just know that if you don't, then you can still standout by having good personal interactions, strong resume, being good at casing, etc.

@@neelandrohit6490 Thanks for the response! I'm trying for junior year internships this fall, so I don't think I will be able to pull up my GPA but definitely will look to make myself standout with experiences most business or liberal arts majors don't really have

Hi Neel & Rohit , Appreciate your effort in helping people interested in consulting. I'm currently pursuing MBA from a non-target B-School in India, with CGPA of 8.3, but my BE graduation score is 59.60%, and 10th & 12th is 9 CGPA & 78% respectively. Am I eligible or stand any chance in good consulting firms ? I do have about 5 relevant work exp & internships on my resume too. Thanks in advance.

Hey Swati, unfortunately, I (Neel) don't know much about the CGPA or BE graduation score to know if those are good or not. Nor what the standards are for consulting firms in India. If those are good and considering you have relevant work experience on your resumes, I think it just comes down to you getting to know people in the firms, making sure you have a solid resume, and getting good at casing! Hi Neel and Rohit, recently I read on a networking blog - " If you want a PM job at Google, you should target and build a connection with Sr PM at Google or the Team manager whose referral will hold more leverage. " So, whom should I target and make connections whose referral will increase my chances of getting into MBB (entry-level position). Is it Partners or EMs or Associates?

I speak a lot about this in my networking video (so definitely check that out for a more detailed answer). But essentially, it depends on your situation, and whether you're coming from a target, semi-target, or non-target school. But usually, I'd say it's more worthwhile to connect with associate (post undergrad) or consultant (post MBA) tenures
