I got a little cutting for free when I bought another plant in May. I stuck it in a random succulent pot outside and forgot about it all summer, and when I came back to it this October, it had 5 huge vines! The longest is over 2 feet long! I just brought it inside and I hope I can keep it happy over the winter.
I love your video, thank you. I was wondering if you could help me with this.... so the soil was bone dry. I repotted and waited several days. When I watered the line in the center of the banana 'sunk' in a few days later. And it's been that way since! Now I am worried to water again. Frankly it actually makes it look thirsty. I am not sure what action to take :( THANK YOU
Just bought a STRING OF BANANAS PLANT ! I love it ! Thank you for the information ! I live in the northern part of ARIZONA And have some other succulent plants so I find your videos very helpful Thank you again ! 👍👍👍👍
I just found a sting of bananas at my local home depot!!! I had to buy it! it was already so full and pretty but i wanted to make sure i hung it somewhere indoors where it would thrive! i enjoyed your video!
Great info and couldn't have come at a better time. Just bought 2 small String of Bananas to combine into one pot. However, I have two cats who do eat plants (and they'd love swiping at those alluring, playful tendrils) so, instead, this is going to make a lovely gift for my sister who has no pets. Thank you for the informative video!
As I said, I couldn't find any definitive info on that subject. Because it's closely related to String Of Pearls, I'm playing it safe & assuming it is toxic to pets. Too bad you couldn't find any place to hang it out of their reach. It's a lovely gift for your sister! Nell
My bananas have been growing and flowering like crazy. It’s December and I don’t know why? It’s in a PA south window getting direct sun and PA’s fall and winter direct overcast conditions. It’s mid Feb now, this thing flowered all winter with lots of growth. I may use move it to an eastern window come spring. Using aquarium water or diluted plant food for now.
Can I take my plant out side to get sun once a day if my plant is an indoor plant? I noticed that my plant is drying out on the leaves . Can u give me some advice? Love the video by the way ♥️ thanks for sharing
Thanks you I finally found my string of bananas . I had to come to you for refresh course for the care. I got everything Mildred needs.Im so excited to what her trail she has a few trails already. Thanks Nell
Thanx Nell, your vids are always helpful. I picked up a String of Bananas just yesterday. Time for me to catch up on all of your vids I've missed😲. Hope you are well xo💜💐🌵🐝🐞
Joy, you are a god send to a newbie with plants! My string of banana plant was in a hanging planter by my window and the whole base of the plant leaves and middle of the plant leaves got completely burnt and dried up (aka dead) but the tips of the plant are still alive. What should I do? clip all the strings and let it start fresh? or pick off the dry bananas? or leave it be. I moved it to a better spot in my apt and hope I can save her :)
How did you root the cuttings though? Did they have roots or did you have to root them? Love the video but wish you would have shared that bit of info!
My big sister gave my mom a string of bananas last year. My mom didnt have anywhere to put it inside for winter, so it's at my house. My sister passed away last month, and I'm so afraid I'm going to kill this plant 😓 I've had so much luck with other succulents, but this one is pretty brown at the top, and lots of brown leaves. Do I pluck the dead leaves off?
I live in Phx and was thinking of putting it under a covered porch, no direct sunlight. But I'm worried the 100°+ in summer will kill it. Do you live in AZ too?
Thanks Nell! I am loving my String of Bananas and String of Pearls. Steve's Leaves sent me two great plants. Very healthy and growing like weeds. Where do you buy your worm castings? I wenf to Lowe's today and they didn't have any. My friend has a fish tank and takes two buckets of water out and puts two buckets back in. Would that water be good for the plants? OK, enjoy your day! Gerry 😎
Hi Gerry - Your "Strings" should grow like crazy this summer, they love the warm weather. There are a few local nurseries where I buy my worm castings. There's even a company which produces them locally here in Tucson. Water from the fish tank is fine, just as long as it's a fresh water tank. Don't use if it's a salt water tank. Thanks for stopping by! Nell
Hi Nell! Thanks for the reply! My String of Bananas is going wild! I am so happy the way it is growing. My String of Pearls is a differrnt story. It was moist went it was delivered. I put it 3 feet from an east window, behind a white Roman shade. It gets a lot of indirect, bright light. I have not watered it at all in 1.5 weeks. I checked it with the moisture meeter Saturday and it was still moist. When I moved the top leaves, notice dark green, mushy leaves on the bottom by the soil. It must have been over watered before shipping. It either has root rot, fungal infection or both. Everyday, I remove the infected leaves. I have it only in it's nursery pot with a paper towel under it. I went through 10 of them, since they are whicking the extra moisture out of the soil. I am going to repot it tomorrow in a cactus/suculent soil, with perlite, orchid mix and WORM CASTINGS! Yes, I finally found it in Wal-Mart. YEAH! My friend does have a fresh water tank. I watered my plants with it over the weekend. I havd noticed growth that quickly. There is a lot of gurglng and the leaves pucker a lot. Last, they all rush to one corner in the room when I walk in. LOL! Hope you have a great week. Gerry 😁
I have a string of bananas that is flowering is there any thing I should do differently while it’s blooming? I know other plants you give them more fertilizer or some other special care
I just saved a very dry and dying string of tears from Lowes. I figured the pearls, tears and bananas are pretty much the same as far as propagating, but my question is after I cleaned up all the dead and/or dying pieces from the string of tears, i have a test propagation happening but i'm worried that maybe I watered the plant too much. It was soooo very, very dry, that I watered it until the water ran through 2 times. Was that too much? I'm not sure how to tell between being too dry and suffering root rot. UGH, help!! Did I love it too much?
Hi - I'm not sure what kind of situation your plants are in (warmth, light, type of mix, size of pot) so it's hard to say. Once a plant gets very stressed, it's often hard to bring it back. The pearls, bananas shrivel when they're too dry or too wet. The plant looks "mushy" if it's rot & dehydrated when it's dry. When I take cuttings of these plants, I usually spray or mist the soil so it doesn't stay too wet. Nell
Hello I have a question. I'm desperate. I just bought a string of tears plant that's beautiful and growing so well, I've only had it for about a week. But the problem I noticed is in the soil there's a lot of small bugs. Some flying and some not flying one's. I've put it outside even though I want it as an indoor plant and so far no improvement, the pests are still there. Please let me know what you think I should do??
