I’m married to a Spaniard citizen. I’m from the USA. I am wanting to get the TEFL certificate. I’m planning on moving to Spain with my wife and son and becoming a Spanish citizen and teaching English there. Super excited!
Hi! I REALLY love this content! Thanks for sharing! I would like to work with adults exclusively. I have a M.Ed in TESOL and I still want a TEFL Certificate. Any tips for me teaching adults? I just received my degree - so I'm new at it. Limited experience. Also, I would like to bring my husband with me. Can I do this? I would like to live there a year to try it out - then perhaps, do it again in the future after the initial experience. Thanks!
To teach adults you would typically be teaching English in a private academy or business English. It can be difficult to do this if you are not from the EU because of the visa. Your options include working part-time on a student visa or getting a self-employment visa. Most non-EU native speakers rely on a student visa as part of a language assistant program but these are most often for kids. Work visas are challenging to get for Spain, unfortunately! It’s possible to bring your husband depending on your visa and if he plans on working or not.
@@lisawhitaker8709 Some visas allow you to sponsor dependents like a spouse or kids. Others do not - it can depend on the country or even type of visa available. Most countries have an official immigration website where you can find info about different visas and their eligibility requirements. I hope this helps!
Hi. thank you for the detailed video. I'm from Sri Lanka . I'm a teacher of English and i have been teaching English for 10+ yeaes . I have TEFL120 HOUR certificate . but what i'm worrying is that i don't have a degree. So is there any chances to teach in Spain ?
To teach in Spain without a degree you’d usually need to have EU work papers. Otherwise you could come on a student visa for studying Spanish, for example, and work up to 20 hours per week. I recommend checking out the SpainGuru website for more details.
Hi! This is a very informative video, thank you. I am from India and I hold a Master's degree in English literature. I came across one of those TEFL programs in Madrid that offer guaranteed placement. I do not have any prior experience in traveling or teaching and I plan to teach in Madrid for at least a year. The institute is called Canterbury English and I would really appreciate any guidance or feedback you have for me.
Yes, Canterbury English is a newer program. There are a few Facebook groups for teachers in Madrid and you can ask there about teachers’ experience with that company 🙂
@@subhashinig860 Cool ! I am planning to go to Barcelona for teacher development course. I am kind of nervous about job prospects. Are you going to study TEFL or teacher development course in Madrid ?
This looks so cool! I really want to teach abroad in Spain one day! How did you find international schools to work for? I’m thinking about getting a teaching certificate and want to use that abroad.
You can apply to international schools through agencies like Search Associates or ISS or apply directly. I was recommended by a current teacher and had already been living in Spain when I got my job at an international school in Madrid.
I heard majorca is a destination for tefl is this true? also how easy is it to find accommodation as i would live to live alone? Also your videos are great and informative thankyou!
Hey! I am moroccan. I have TEFL and the MA degree. First, I got my BA in English literature and culture and my master in the cultural field. Plus a year teaching experience. Do i have any chances as a non native speaker at all?
Most language assistant programs in Spain only hire native English speakers. To teach with a TEFL in a private academy you typically need working rights for the EU or to have a school sponsor a work visa for you (not easy, but also not impossible). You can also work up to 20 hours per week if you come on a student visa to study Spanish, for example. I hope this helps!
@@historicaljolidda1497 Yes, it's possible to teach in international schools in Spain, but it's very competitive. You will typically need to be a certified teacher because of the visa. I worked in an international school for two years in Madrid and they were only able to hire me on a work visa because of my US teaching cert.
Hello, thank you for sharing. I am a graduated university student from the higher school of education and training with a bachelor's degree of teaching English. I am from Morocco and I am willing to teach English in Spain. How can I apply please ( I have the 120 hour Professional TEFL certification as well)
You will find it very challenging to teach in Spain as a non-native speaker and non-EU citizen, unfortunately. You could try on a student visa while studying your TEFL/Spanish and work part-time.
Hi there. I am a 42 year old British male. Im looking to do the Tefl Certificate Online whilst living potentially in Spain or from London. The key question I have is on completion of the course how would I go about gaining a visa in order to work and what visa would I have to apply for beyond the Student visa. This being said the course will not last forever and work will commence thereafter so which visa will that require. Also consider I want to teach solely private students as I have a plan in order to do so. Regards Greg PS is there an easier way to become a teacher without having to go through some academy like the Internation Tefl Academy which seems to cater for mostly American youngsters. I only want to teach private students and have a plan to do so. Which would be the best route for me? thanks
Hi! Unfortunately Brexit has made it difficult to teach in Spain since you are no longer EU. Spanish academies prefer to hire EU nationals because the work visa process is easier. That being said, if you want to teach privately as a freelancer you can check out the freelancer visa for Spain (known as autonomo) or there is a new digital nomad visa as well. You’ll still want to have a TEFL to prove on your business plan that you are qualified to teach. Let me know if you need help!
@@qualityzx7148 You can do a TEFL course in Spain and come on a student visa, apply for an autonomo freelance visa or try to get a work visa (the most difficult.) Do you have a TEFL certificate?
