There’s a huge skill discrepancy between Tekken king and Tekken Emperor. Although some characters can carry lesser skilled (but decent enough) Emperor players to Tekken GOD. Those same players then struggle to get Supreme because the point system no longer works in your favor(you loose more for loosing then you gain for winning) so you need skill beyond what your character can carry(assist) you to, to have a consistent enough win rate against Supremes and god of destruction players to promote. Consistency that they may not have built due to being carried for so long. Those who make it supreme (regardless of character) typically make it to god of destruction since you had to consistent enough against those two ranks to promote to supreme in the first place, so it becomes just a matter of time .
There's a factor that's not implemented in the chart of ranks. Once you get to Fujin you see the chart and drop the ranked games or choose different character. The knowledge of the difference in the skill needed for another rank displayed in the chart is a factor by itself. You can see it once you're Fujin by checking players profile that their objective is to bring multiple characters to Fujin. They are testing how far the "tekken skill" can get them without the experiance of a singular character and they believe - and I think they might be correct - that having a lot of characters in Fujin will allow them to advance the main character. This is the reverse of how the ranking system works as when you're a Tekken God with one character a new character will be at Fujin rank (I think).
So in other words, general knowledge of Tekken 8 will elevate a player's rank until the blue ranks, where character-specified knowledge is more valuable. Is that what you are saying?
@@Jonkin715 that's what I'm reading and it makes sense. You're likely fighting (at blue and above) the best uses of each character so to beat those characters at that skill level it seems like it would be necessary to know at least the most used characters fairly well and what better way to learn a character than to play them? Basic strats like frame traps and lows/mixups stop working as well around/above the blue ranks (anecdotally I'm about to advance into Blue and my frame traps have seen a noticeable drop in effectiveness) so you need to know more advanced stuff (like movement) and when you can sidestep to find openings since throws are likely to be teched. I've noticed and started to use more deeper game stuff like ki-charges for counter hits v people trying to win solely through mashing & Rage/Heat. I got a chance to play a God of Destruction for a few hours in a private lobby the other week and the things I used at my rank ceased being effective/became liabilities.
Seeing as though 1.05 may be the last patch for a while and things have been well adjusted, now seems to be the best time to do just that. Will it happen though?
In the later ranks, match up knowledge is really important for you to advance. Playing a variety of characters and moving them through the ranking system seems ideal, and maybe that's something I should be doing. I'll dabble with a few them, but I've always been a Steve specialist. Even when he sucked in the beginning, I stuck with him because I like boxing. He is technical, but I almost feel like he fits my actual playstyle. I'm currently Raijin so I know it's only going to get more difficult from here. Bushin is my main goal .
The problem with ranks is they only loosely correlate to skill. Yes higher ranks in general equate higher skill, but its still kind of all over the place. A more traditional ELO or other SBMM system, with ranks resetting every 3 months or something like that, but your ELO staying the same might do a lot to get a better distribution. Especially since you can easily adjust the relative ELO needed to even qualify for a given rank.
whether players think a character is good or not is a factor in choosing, but I would say ease of use and whether they just like the character from their appearance or story etc are also big factors
I play Reina and been enjoying the difficulty of progressing through the ranks with her. Trying to learn more with her tech. The nerf she got doesn't affect how I play since it really targets things like Raiden -> Sentai spam. I just try to play how I can play despite not being able to do execution so well.
As a Nina main i love that she was spared the mighty update pen but as for my friend who mains Draganauv he has been struggling hard to reach fujin. He just reached it yesterday and seeing you hate on the character was hilarious 😂😂😂
I feel like a lot of people who reached GoD immediately switched to sub characters and are essentially "rank camping" but I don't mean that in a derogatory way. I'm GoD and I often run into the same few GoD players, so that's also why I feel like most people who achieved GoD, switched to different characters. I feel like that also makes it easier to maintain GoD cause a lot of people who would've "gatekept" me from the rank aren't playing as much at that rank anymore. But maybe that explanation is nothing to do with how statistics should work idk 😂
@@burni988you are right I'm a god of destruction player with near 400k tekken prowress who plays 80 percent of the cast I still continue to rank up other characters and run into "hard stuck" players between blue n tgs so you are correct I guess I'm gate keeping other players in a sense...
@@priincelegiit yea I mean I hope you didn't take it in a bad way when I said gatekeeping lol. It's just how the system functions. I assume the prowess based matchmaking was an attempt to alleviate some of that unintentional gatekeeping/smurfing that happens simply as a result of strong players learning and ranking up sub characters but it can't be completely avoided with this system. And tbh idk how much I like the prowess matchmaking because you can feel how it limits your opponent pool but I understand why they did it 🤷♂️
Hey Tricky, love these weather forecasts. I'm a Tekken Newbie - just got to Ranger with Jin. Trying my best NOT TO move up in rank with bad habits and only use the same 6-8 moves over and over again, which can be a challenge while trying to learn my character at the same time. :)
You don’t have to worry too much about habits really. You’ll either hit a wall when you need to adjust or you’ll do it naturally as you get stronger. Do what works
the problem at Tekken Emperor and above is that the game is being gatekeeper by Tekken God of Destruction. Majority of Supreme is people that got knocked out of Tekken God of Destruction. Also Many players stop playing as soon as they reach God of Destruction.
Still loving all the King sass. Jin is the game's protagonist, but King is and always will be the people's champion. That's why he's played. And because people miss Armor King.
So I play Reina because she is hot...but has the attitude of Heihachi. If she were JUST hot, I wouldn't play her. I also kind of want her to be GOOD, but I'm not sure on that yet. My default is to assume the problem is me, and not my character, because I only barely qualify a person. But I do wonder.
Lots of people i personally know stops either at Tekken King or at Tekken Lord, that's why they're so high compared to the sourrounding ranks. Also once people get to tekken lord supreme they almost always push for GoD. But i think Tekken King, Emperor and Lord are some sort of "checkpoint" or "accomplishment goal" of most people. Once they're there they either quit ranked or quit the game completely. Well at least this is my personal experience with people in my community so it may be worth nothing.
It's been said a few times but I really want to stress that a lot of top players reach GoD with a secondary or as a challenge and feel satisfied, leaving that character in GoD skewing the accuracy of the chart. They may go back to their main or start a new character, but retaining the rank once achieved is a trend we see at the threshold of hitting every new color rank. Purple's, Blues, and Gold ranks included. TLDR we all wish we could be Glaciating
Only the top ranked of a persons account is collected. There are not alts in the graph. How exactly is the chart accuracy being impacted by what you’re proposing?
I'm a Raven purist and I don't particularly feel he was "buffed" more than his bugs and hitboxs are kinda fixed. I personally feel his combos should be reworked, for example, down back 2,1,1 should combo on hit, it currently doesn't.
Azucena main, I'm glad her wr3,2 was nerfed so now people aren't abusing it for free and I'm not gonna be called a glue eater for playing her in the first place (ok that won't stop people from calling me a glue eater)
The reason Fujin has so many players is so many people are not blabbing characters and they are playing Cheesy characters, Victor, Azucena, Xiaoyu, Jin, Jack, King, Drag, unfortunately that’s what it looks like to me. A lot of people aren’t labbing
Some GoDs have like 400,000 ranked points. They're gonna have to erase the extra points and cut prowess along side your proposed amendment... I dont think the community would like that but personally they could just reset rank all together AND add 2 ranks. See how that looks after 30/45 days from patch.
i would say that Garyu is your basic Average, Mighty Ruler is your average for people who are above average, and Fujin is your average for people who are high level. I wouldn't flat out agree with saying Mighty Ruler is the average.
The only characters that need to be nerfed into the ground are Paul, Jack, and Xiaoyu. Other than that, buff Azucena and allow Lidia to parry everything (including rage arts).
Mastering King's toolset seems like it requires a college course to truly understand. I play a casual King ever since Tekken 3, and I use several moves that I don't see during any other King matches.
Rank is absolutely useless, I don't understand why so many people get so excited about rank up. When I rank up, I say "oh well..." but for me counts only and only one thing: to encounter skilled player that teaches me how to play better on Tekken, to register replay and analize the matchup. It matters offline tournament, a lot! Online is only a school to learn the true Tekken experience offline for the tournaments, nothing more nothing less! And to know new players that with muuuch fortune, they can become our friends
@@TrickyEileen Let's clarify, firstly, that I admire your efforts to show us how the system rank works (even if I, without any negative feelings, admit that sometimes I don't understand very well what you say, on some parts of the video at least), and I am not yet a monster of a tournament of Tekken 8 (but I participated to many fighting game tournament like Street Fighter II or III Third Strike, and two times to Tekken 7). Your Xiaoyu could easily destroy my Lili, even if I too, those days, am learning various matchups in training mode. Now, I understand that ranking system is, somewhat, a prize to the efforts of any player, to say something like "if you continue to play, you will get better and better score and you will be seen as a very good player". But this, in my opinion, could be the greatest way to make new players but the best way to lie to all players, at the same time; because in any game, sports etc. is not the number of victory that counts, but only your skill that you show match after match. You can be God of Destruction or Yannik Sinner (I'm Italian like him, so I enjoy so much to watch his tennis matches^^) but if you lose matches after matches (friendly or official), your true valor is not God of Destruction or 1# tennis male player in the world, for sure... So, I cannot understand why so many players go online on social media to post "I am now warrior" or " Tekken God"; are they sure that they really encountered very skilled players that could help them to grow as player? Thus, if they loses a lot because is a black day, and the next they wins 2-3 matches on 6... they are worth to descend to 3 rank, winning more matches than the defeats of the single unfortunate day? I don't want to change the opinion of any player that don't go to the offline tournament, I want only to make question themselves and clarify this: a tournament is very different from becoming God of Destruction, a tournament is not 20XX matches to go to God of Destruction, is much more tougher for many psychological matters that I don't write right here...
@@Danielsonic87 I understand what you're saying and we have similar views towards tournament play (especially offline tournament). What I've come to understand over the years of competing at that high end of the skill tree, most players despite what they outwardly say, do not want to be that good. The kind of good that I'm talking about, that you're talking about, is unfathomable to the vast majority of players. The few of us that see it and wish to claim that pursuit are the strange odd ones. They however are the majority and frankly the normal ones. we be freaks, and I love it, but I wouldn't force it on anyone who wasn't one already. LIke that anti-ling video I just posted is that Freak level shit.
I would think the main driver of the god supreme - god of destruction discrepancy is when you reach supreme, you LOCK IN HARDER THAN YOU’VE EVER LOCKED IN, in your life.
