If only he'd had more seasons. That said, Season 1 is still the most tightly-constructed and coherent season of modern Doctor Who. Honestly, only really paralleled by Season 10.
i like smith the best because he's the perfect balance of 'silly man with a box' and 'ancient being that has witnessed the birth and death of the universe a million times over' and he manages to switch between them perfectly, capaldi has some good speeches though
Honestly I'm a fan of Jordan Peterson so Capaldi just feels like Peterson if he was a magical alien who traveled time and space and that gives me fuzzies.
I personally love the Matt Smith iteration, he was the first doctor who I watched all the way through and I loved his childlike portrayal and how it became increasingly clear that it was a coping mechanism for him to deal with the trauma of his life.
"You are a literal child", looks around bedroom full of toys, vintage space models, and Doctor Who wallpaper border... You're not wrong. (And Two's been my favourte since the 90s)
Capaldi, he was my favourite. He always felt to me that age had caught up with the Doctor and he didn’t have it in him to care anymore, but he still had bouts of compassion. He really fit the cliche of the uncaring immortal but with sudden upsurges of passion.
He's our Doctor. More than any before or since. Capaldi was such a perfect amalgamation of previous doctors whilst having his own charming and infectious flair. 12 shredding on guitar on top of a tank rolling out of a medieval castle, one of the best Doctor Who moments of all time
Things like that were common during the Time War. I guess that makes you a “neverwere?” Maybe you can be resurrected by the Could Have Been King? Or if Amy remembered you in her subconscious you could be an Auton?
I met Paul McCann at Chester comic con , he was such a nice guy , no one had yet gone up to his table to purchase an autograph or picture and although I wasn’t paying for anything he had a full on conversation with me after I told him he was my favourite doctor and even took the time to talk to me after his Q and A
Honestly the best cons are the ones you just have the ability to talk to the people, it’s really nice to get to know them

@@charliejenkins3211 unfortunately they're quite rare (at least the ones I attended) because they've always been very crowded.. But agreed, if you catch them at a peaceful moment it's totally worth it!
Tom Baker was the first Doctor I was aware of, watching reruns that I didn't know were reruns on PBS as a kid in the 80s. I like Tennant, but to me, Baker is the best.
Eccleston (9) was the first one of whom I watched a full episode, but Smith (11) is my all-time favorite, but I’m partial to all other main incarnations, including Hurt (War). Speaking of the late John Hurt, he was actually really cool. He was in 3 major sci-fi productions. He was Executive Officer Kane in _Alien_ (1979), reprised the role in a cameo in _Spaceballs_ (1987), and finally appeared as the War Doctor in 2013. Also, Capaldi (12) and Baker (4) are tied for my second favorite; they’re both fun and witty in their own ways. Capaldi especially since he’s extra-chaotic but can be extremely serious when necessary, and the canon connection between the 12th Doctor and Capaldi’s previous role in _The Fires of Pompeii._ And I like Jackson Lake for his story and it’s inspiring message. And Peter Cushing (the _Dalek_ Films’ Doctor) is cool too, since his movies are an alternate take on Terry Nation’s Dalek serials.
@@the.youtube.of.sam.gotterthe very last one shown? it’s an incarnation of the 9th doctor from the Scream of the Shalka series, which came out before Eccleston’s first season and after the 1996 movie. while it may not be considered in the main TV continuity (canon is a fickle thing), it’s well worth looking into in my opinion.
11 was the first one I ever saw, but as I grew older I was able to appreciate how well-written his character is. He's seen as the childish one (at least out of the new era) yet he also is able to display the pain the doctor experiences as an immortal being, the last of his kind, and the burden of his choices. Tl;dr: Eleven is still my favorite
It's like picking a favorite child. Every actor has brought unique characteristics to the role and it's just impossible for me to say that one of them did it better than the other. But I guess, since 10 was the first doctor I watched, he will always have a special place in my heart.
Eccleston was my first Doctor so he'll always have a special place in my heart, plus he has one of my favourite lines. "Then prove yourself Doctor. What are you, coward or killer?" "Coward, any day."
My favorite is The Tenth Doctor. I've cried 3 times for him since he regenerated, but I watched the 50th anniversary episode because I missed him, and now I know he is okay and happy. But he isn't basic to me. I also love The Eleventh Doctor, he is hilarious. We've seen Matt Smith as well in Morbius, and David in a lot of his small crime shows. My two ultimate favorites.
Do not dis on the 10th doctor, that man created my childhood, broke my heart, fixed it, and broke it again. Then he came back and my life's now complete
As much as I love Capaldi (my second favorite) and the 4th, Eccleston is still my favorite. His run was too short, but he made the absolute most of it. He was fantastic. Absolutely fantastic.
Look. I love 5. Is he the best Dr? Not by any means. But he's my favourite. I just can't get enough of his boundless pettiness and passive aggression hidden beneath an extremely thin veneer of politeness. Every time he's on screen being a little bitch I am filled with boundless joy
The reason why John Hurt is no-ones favorite Doctor is that he was only in 1 episode of Doctor Who (that also had 2 other amazing Doctors in it). All the other doctors had at least one season on the show (exept for eight who had a movie). John's Doctor, or the 'War Doctor' as we called him, was also not technically a Doctor as he went by the name 'The Warrior' instead.
Smith and Capaldi were the ones I grew up with so I’d say they’re my favourites. After binging new who, it’s too difficult to give a favourite all those actors are too damned skilled.
The nineth is, and always will be my favorite. I love to quote is “fantastic” line all the time, but the tenth is also one of my favorites, he’s too adorable not to like and I genuinely enjoy every role David plays, he’s an amazing actor!
watching ecchelston go from a kind merciful man to a stark raving lunatic in episode 6 of the 9th season made me fall in love with doctor who, and sold me on the franchise I owe it to him
Tom Baker is my favorite because I am old & he was the current Doctor when I started watching as a kid. He was the first to portray the character as being playfully eccentric as well as extremely intelligent & capable. I still think he did it better than anyone before or since.
What if your favorite.... is just The Doctor? No matter what face they're wearing? To me, the Doctor is always, simply, amazingly, wonderfully... The Doctor. Same person, new face, different personality traits enhanced by the experiences of the previous lifetime. The Doctor is a Phoenix... I love the Doctor.
I only watched the reboot, and I stopped watching after David Tennant was switched out. David Tennant is the bomb. Watched him as the purple man, too. Unbelievable performance. Truly outstanding.
I am what the hipsters think they are... Okay, I'll take it. To be honest, I'm not sure what the stereotypical hipster thinks they are, but it seems positive.
I grew up watching Troughton and Pertwee on VHS as a kid with my parents in the late 90s early 00's. My parents weren't big fans of any other doctors. It gave me an interesting perspective on the other doctors when I did eventually watch them decades later.
Nah, you can not do the war doctor like that. That episode was sooooo chilling the exact perfect contrast of the man with a decision, a man who regrets and a man who forgets.
@@cmmosher8035 - Likewise. Who was only on late night Saturday nights and I wasn't old enough to be in school yet, but I'd sneak out of bed at 11 pm to watch it because of Baker. I just finished watching the entire series (that isn't an exaggeration) and he is still my favorite. They all have their pros and cons, but he will always be the most Doctory of the Doctors for me.
Capaldi for me, but I also like Eccleston a lot. Both are just incredible actors, and both portray The Doctor as a little bit damaged by his experiences, and that really works for the portrayal of long lived/immortal characters. I like that all of them bring their own unique takes on The Doctor and all are valid. It's what gives the character such longevity.
David Morrisey should genuinely be casted as Doctor Who one day. His role as Jackson Lake in 'The Next Doctor' special was amazing. I actually wished that he'd become a companion. For those who dont know, he also played The Governor in The Walking Dead
The tenth doctor is class, best era of the show by far, has a fantastic character arc and big finish does the character justice with the time lord victorious cannot wait for the 60th specials!
Where are all the contrarians either proudly screaming 'yes I am!' or indignantly screaming 'no I'm not!', and either way inescapably confirming the statement?!
10, 11, and 12 were always my favourites. Mostly because I liked their personalities but I especially liked David tennant and Peter capaldi because they’re both scottish and I’m scottish too so I’m bias
The 10th is the one that hits me hard when I'm watching the emotional scenes, and it gets me every time. The 11th makes me smile because he's like an very nice old man, in a jong and energetic body, and makes it comedic in a way, but also when he is serious, he realy is good at it. the 12th doctor can say one word, and you tell a thousand things by seeing it on his face. Peter Capaldi is so underrated as a actor. And 13th........... Sorry where was i ............ Oh yes the 14th doctor with David Tennant! Can't wait.
How many times do I have to tell people this. IT WASN'T JODIE WHITTAKER'S FAULT THAT HER EPISODES WERE WRITTEN BAD. IT WAS CHRIS CHIBNALL'S FAULT. QUIT THROWING HATRED TOWARD JODIE WHITTAKER'S 13TH DOCTOR WHEN THE SHOW RUNNER IS THE ONE TO BLAME FOR HER EPISODES BEING BAD.
@Exit911YT Yhea , I know that already. I was not talking about the actors (except for Peter Capaldi) I was only talking about all the versions of The Doctor. There is no hate on Jodie. It's just that I'd rather wanna pretend that the 13th Doctors series din't happen.
@@Exit911YTImagine writing a paragraph in full caps against a person who did not do the thing you say you don't like people doing.. 🤦 And yeah, the writing for her was mostly crappy, but even then she never came off as The Doctor at any point. Jodie is a great actress, but she could not pull off The Doctor convincingly at all.
I do exist, tyvm. War is the saddest& sweetest of the Doctors. So burdened by the weight of the Time War, he feels he dies not even deserve the name. But he will always be my favorite. 💙💙
I can’t choose between Capaldi and Tenant, they were both just so amazing as the doctor, although I could say the same for most of the others, loved Baker and Smith too
My favourite has to be Matt Smith, only because he portrays the Doctor SO well, with a fair balance of being quirky and funny, but also serious and clever. The overall series with Matt Smith is epic. ❤
12 overall & 7 classic :) Actually, I'm about Capaldi's age. There are things that helped me feel good about it, and understand that I'm a good man. Mostly. Cheers, V. Love what u do. Jessie turned me onto your take. Subbed!
@@CouncilofGeeks if you feel comfy I’d love for you to expand on this a little! I’m queer and love 12 but had never considered looking at his story through that lens !
After seeing the 2023 specials, the Fourteenth is actually my favourite Doctor. He is a lot more openly broken than Ten, and I love that about him. Especially after the Thirteenth (whom I also deeply love, but in a different way), who kept all of her troubles bottled up and kept everyone at arm’s length, seeing Fourteen allow himself to openly fall apart, stop running and accept help… It was something. When I saw the specials, I remember thinking that Fourteen is like a glass vase that has been shaken and beaten far too many times and far too hard and is now full of cracks. It still has not collapsed and has the shape of a vase (held together not so much by the laws of physics as by the sheer willpower)-but touch it with a finger or even breath too hard in its direction, and it will shatter in a hundred sharp pieces. Fragile and precious. And a reminder that it is okay to fall apart sometimes
I grew up with David Tennant and Matt Smith as the tenth and eleventh incarnation of the classic time travelling and space floating Time Lord known as The Doctor.
Even with the '80s kitsch of having an easily-marketable animal companion in K-9 and what is the first notable hint of a romantic side to the Doctor in Romana, Baker's run is and will probably always be my favorite. He is the most Doctory of the Doctors to me, and I feel like his era's storylines are what really cemented the lore.
