After a 3-game stint with the Montreal Canadiens during the 18/19 season, Tomas Plekanec announced his retirement from the NHL after parts of 15 seasons in the league. Just wondering, what did Tomas's contract termination affect the cap situation on the Canadiens? And how much money did he get from it? Whas the 1-year 3.5 million intended as a thank-you gift? Was the contract termination plan from the beginning? Or was it decided on the Fly?

Pleky’s a gem. One of ma favorite Habs. He had that ability of pissing opponents off by not reacting at all to their chirps. It was amazing.

@@keir13 The whole wearing a turtleneck persona started as a joke when he was a rookie. They laid it out in his locker and told him that's all they had left. He eventually wised up to the joke but kept wearing it anyhow. Thus began the legend of the turtleneck 😄

@@woooshbait5398 Ignore the guy. Sure, Plekanec retired when he was a Leafs member, but he contributed far more in Montreal. So he's definitely a Montreal legend.

Trust me, none of the fans were "shocked" when Plekanec's contract was terminated. We all knew he was being signed to play his 1000th game, nothing more. It was, in a sense, redemption for doing Markov really bad and denying him his 1000th game. I still can't accept that one to this day... especially considering we really would have needed the guy in 2018. But according to GM Bergevin, Alzner was better lol

At one point in the 1930s, there was a player who played for an NHL team and the AHL team he had just bought. In the latter part of the decade, defenseman Eddie Shore played for both the Boston Bruins and the AHL's Springfield Indians. After the Bruins traded him to the New York Americans, he briefly played on those two in 1940 as well.

I was on game between Rytiri Kladno and VHK Vsetin on the bench for Kladno was #68 Jaromir Jagr as coach and on the other bench was Jiri Dopita (olympic gold, 3x world chamionship gold 2x bronze, 7x extraliga champion).. And Plekanec was playing for Kladno.. well, he did not even lose one face off whole game, 2 goals 2 assists, and we lost..
