Anyone notice how surprised Zestial was when she sang the lyrics "I'll keep you safe" at him. The fact that he is one of the people she's protecting by keeping the secret, and he didn't expect that is so sweet.
He's been strong enough to look after himself for so long that no one really thinks about it. But Carmilla, who's implied to be around his level or a bit weaker, is still willing to do whatever she can to protect him. It's like being a bodyguard for Superman. He doesn't really need it, but damn if he won't appreciate the thought.
Yes, but also he does a completely different voice for Ozzy! Both are great, but I think I might like this one just a little better! It’s like butter smooth! Every line he gets in a song, I wish were ten more when I hear it! I hope next season he gets more to do and more to sing!
There's something so nostalgically rockin' about Carmilla's singing voice in this song. I can't remember the last time I heard singing like that in so many years.
I didn’t care for this song as much at first, but now that I watched the whole series and decided binging it all over again, I realized how beautiful this song actually is.
I acknowledge its a good song but its just not my jam. Though I do come back just to here Zestial sing. He has an amazing voice and its a really sweet moment.
@@christopherlong3397 same. sometimes the pitchyness just ruins it for me but other times it's not so bad. I like the song, the lyrics, and the voice actresses/ actor, but I feel like if they polished it up before it could have been much better.
The recent information we've gotten being that vaggie is a former angel. It really shows how these two were both parallels but also so similar. Vaggie not wanting to hurt a demon because it was a child and beung cast out, and Carmella having to kill an angel because it was going to harm those people she could consider family, and now has to hide to keep from being erased.
some speculate that carmella is also a fallen angel or something similiar as she had a duet with Vaggie, has a similiar color pallet and knew how to make angelic weapons.
@@twit3537 Given it seems like she's the ONLY one in all of hell that seems to know how to smelt and reforge angelic steel, and if the only one actually taking advantage of the fact the Exorcists just leave their weapons behind every Extermination Day, it does raise the question of how she even found out how to do so
@@caiusdrakegaming8087She seems to be the one who makes calculated risks that other overlords don't. The other overlords wait out exterminations safe in their bunkers, while Carmilla chooses to risk it to acquire the angelic steel. Though she tries to avoid encountering exorcists. There might not be any trick to smelting and reforging it, just the risk of acquiring it.
@@twit3537Yes, people do think that. Despite how dumb it is. For every "oh wow but she has exorcist colors" there's something else that contradicts it. Like her absurd height relative to all of the current exorcists and Vaggie, her lack of Xs on her eyes, the clear feathery design elements that angels would not have, etc. It isn't rocket science
Yeah tbh, my biggest complaint is it happens too early. Like you introduce Carmilla Carmine, and then in like, the same scene give her an epic emotional ballad and expect us to care? Feels like a part of an arc that hasn't happened yet. The song is still a straight banger though.
@draccqueen1770 It's not meant to "make you care" about Carmilla, it's meant to show that all characters, even ones such as Carmilla and Zestial who are just seen as these powerful overlords, one ancient and wise, the other specializing in warfare, still have so much depth in their stories and personalities that aren't just seen at a glance. They use a character you know best and can relate to more, Vaggie, to empathize this point.
@@draccqueen1770 This whole episode is more underrated than people realize for the plot point. She was able to kill an angel - something that has never been done before until now. Zestial understands the ramifications that could happen from the event itself and because of Lucifer having been a part of the situation and witnessing it (Carmilla is his 'eyes' and second hand), we're going to see this plot spiral soon. I can't wait to find out why she was able to kill an angel - I'm hoping it has something to do with the reasons behind her counter-attack, being selfless and protecting her loved ones.
Yeah I had to rewatch a few scenes to connect that they are trading with angelic weapons and those 2 little demons are her daughters who gave the stuff to the snake guy previously. It is right there just some scenes are so quick I glazed over it
I was kind of surprised by how high Stephanie decided to make Vaggie's siging voice. It's a nice contrast to her deeper and more monotone speaking voice
I sure was! I knew Stephanie from Encanto, but her talking and singing voice in that film were both on the same pitch, so it seemed as if that was her voice, then Episode 1 of HH shook me, her voice was so low and militaristic as Vaggie, it was THIS show that showed me Stephanie has SUCH a different singing voice to her talking voice when playing a more serious female character. And I really love the contrast!
@@ECSOrder66 she did use her high range in encanto too just rarely! if you listen to “all of you” her voice is a lot higher and sounds similar to vaggie. Same with her duet in “what else can I do”
@@lumeanoastra1252alastor’s like: oh hey mr overlord guy one of these days i might get you but whatever zestials like: i know what you did you aint slick i fuggin dare you
@@lumeanoastra1252 fr. Alastor was EXTREMELY tense when Zestial showed up, we even see signs that he might be scared, or at least scared of what Zestial could easily discover.
I don't think Zestial and Alastor are friends but I agree he is such a bro, the way he supports Carmilla and asks what's on her mind, and says that she should be proud and open about her power if it was her that slew the angel (which it was). I really really hope that Zestial is as chill a guy as he appears and doesn't turn out to be just using Carmilla like, well, most of the other Overlords lol. Seems like most of them are master manipulators, and although they acted civil (with the exception of Velvette) during the meeting I get the feeling underneath that play-nice facade all of them were probably sizing each other up, gauging each other for potential weaknesses. Talk about your shark tank lol.
These are the most powerful Demon Overlords and they all sound so chill and supportive. Damn. Except the Vees, and yeah the cannibals are still cannibals
Carmilla,Zestial, and Rosie are the nicest Overlords so far(I wonder if Miss Zilla and the blue flame skull Overlord are also nice we'll have to wait and see)I hope these Overlords become allies for Charlie and her friends in future seasons for future battles or something.
@@angelrosales898 I don't know if Zestial is NICE. Everyone seemed absolutely terrified of him, far more than Alastor, who broadcasted tearing people's souls apart. Zestial does seem polite to other overlords and nice to his FRIENDS, though.
I love that Zestial figured Carmilla slew the angel, didn't get why she didn't take credit, yet kept his mouth shut anyway till he could talk to her about it. He's a good friend.
@@Blitzo8390The fact that i didnt even knew about a sequel of frozen until i saw this comment speaks enough about the state in which Disney is currently in
Why is this song so low on people’s lists of songs from the show? It’s a top 3 song for me! An emotional song about the torment of keeping secrets for the greater good of your loved ones. It hits so hard!
@@HexMyEnemies i think I like it because it reminds me of my boyfriend. i am useless and i have no personality like Vaggie, but I still love my boyfriend with all my heart, and I want to protect him at all costs

WHAT THE HELL VAGGIE'S VOICE IS SO UNEXPECTEDLY ANGELIC?!(No pun intended) I expected her to have a pretty mirabel sounding voice when she sings but i was pleasantly surprised by this, i love it!❤
This isn’t widely considered the best song of the series?? It’s literally the first song I searched for after watching the show. The raw emotion and power in Carmille’s voice as she sings about essentially being a shield to the people she cares about is amazing.
People say this song is bad because they have no relation in the story but they have plenty in common, they are both protecting the ones they love, Vaggie being more defensive and Carmilla being more offensive. They mirror each other in this episode
Agreed. I don't think she was expecting to survive fighting exorcists, just hold them off long enough for her daughters to escape. As far as she knew, they were invincible. Until one of their heads came off.
// Lyrics // [Zestial] What weighs on your soul, old friend? I implore you to share the load If it was thou who slew the angel Why not let your strength be known? [Carmilla Carmine] I always thought that I would keep blood off my face But when that thing attacked, I had to act To cross that line and keep them safe But if anyone knew, then all of Hell would rise to war And who's to say who'd survive the fray? I might lose the ones that I was killing for So I, I'll be your keeper Do whatever it takes, I'll make the mistakes I'll keep you safe and keep this secret [Vaggie] When I saw your face You made me feel like a stranger in a brand new place And it felt so good to be understood But there's so much I wished that I could say So I, I'll be your armor Do whatever it takes, I'll make the mistakes I'll spend my life being your partner [Carmilla] And I don't know what we might face But I know I can't replace you So I'll do anything to save you [Vaggie] And I will try to make your dreams come true [Both] Whatever we go through I know I (I'll be your keeper) (I'll be your armor) Whatever it takes (I'll make the mistakes) (I'll make the mistakes) Whatever it takes
I keep coming back to the rise in the music when she says "but who's to say - such an underrated tone to this song and I am a mother to two girls so it hits me
Its really good. It's what made me love this song. I'm not sure if you grew up similarly, but I was surrounded by Christian Rock and gospel growing up. Her power absolutely hits that level.
I love how every time a different person sings, the background color always changes. Like in the first part where zestial was singing, the background was red, then it turned to Carmilla and the background turned to purple.
This song hits so close to home. I am the type that when I fall for someone, and have a great amount of love for certain people, I’ll do whatever it takes to protect and support them. I’ll even give up my life for them. My best friend Kris, my family, I use the fear of losing them and their support to achieve things I wouldn’t be able to do otherwise.
I don't think I've ever heard a song this beautiful as Daphne Rubin-Vega's lines in this: A mother's sacrifice and consistent fear for her children in both her actions and the consequences of them. In this series and many others, personalities and relationships can get exaggerated, spoon fed, or just a bit over the top (Angel Dust, anyone?) but this is just... Believable. A mother who would sacrifice anything, even the chance at defeating her nations enemies, to keep her children safe.
I don't know what it is about this song that I find so viscerally emotional. Absolutely one of the most beautiful songs I've heard in a _long_ time! I love Camilla's story and the reveal of Vaggie's deeply buried emotions. This song was the moment I fell in love with Hazbin Hotel... so glad this got to be made! And I am absolutely _obsessed_ with this song now! Can't help but tear up every time I hear it...
I actually didn’t pay attention to this song when I watched the episode but then I watched the whole series and wanted to go back to this song and it’s my favorite lol
As a parent of young kids, Carmilla belting out these lines about protecting her daughters showing so much emotion in her voice and on her face gets me every time. This scene is just outstanding.

Why people say that this duet is out of place? They technically don’t sing together and they both want to protect their loved ones by keeping a secret so-
1:06 I swear on everything I've heard this song somewhere and it wasn't at the Hazbin Hotel. I'm going crazy searching RU-vid because I've already heard this melody and nothing comes up.
The line about people rising to war is so good. Because she did it to protect people not to start a revolution but people would rally behind her and do it anyway. I like it a lot.
Crazy how in a place like hell which seems so “every sinner for themselves” we have someone like Carmilla who will do anything to protect her children.
0:55 yeah... the way she sing that, really make seems that her daughters die in the middle off a conflict that they weren't part off or something, idk :p
Makes sense, considering how worried she looks, as if she's trying to avoid doing it again or something along those lines. It has been speculated that her daughters died on earth and it was Carmila's fault, that's why she's in hell. It would be an epic nod if that's the case, storytelling at its finest!
I like how Carmilla's other songs have a hispanic theme. This song lacks that but its still very good. Ive never been so interested in a latina ballerina batwoman and a victorian bat-spider gentlemen being romantically involved. They were companions in the pilot episode, so this is more ship-teasing. I still wonder if either Velvette or Vaggie are potentially Carmilla's daughters.
I like how every song is in a different musical genre. This one is done in the style of an early 2000s-era Alternative Rock, which only adds to the song's power.
