Girl the quote, 'perfectionism is nothing more than the ultimate form of trying to avoid criticism' will forever stick with me in my long term 😮

right??? it’s such a weird avoidance technique, and it’s tricky bc it feels like it’s positive.

the sad thing is, the criticism i'm afraid of the most is my own. we really should stop beating ourselves up for not doing everything 'right'

What gives me anxiety is the amount of PERFECTION I see in other creators’ content. Everything is super aesthetic and put together. I know it’s only on social media, but I mean: super apartment, everything is on point, cute and armonic, every fits the aesthetic so much it overwhelms me. Even the knives fit the aesthetic

This hits different when you have depression and everything feels like a chore... even doing it poorly, that's much better than nothing. Until you can give 100% just try showing up at 5%, then 10%. But try to always show up. As long as there is a heart beating within you, there's always something you can do!

Girl, I learnt something here. Quick story, I love braiding hair and I started by doing my own. When I started, I wasn't that good (obviously) but I'd criticise myself all the time for how terrible my hair turned out. But as I continued to "poorly do it", I got better and better (not yet where I want to be though). I'd get frustrated at how some youtuber's hair came out better than mine despite following instructions to the T. But then after continued consistency, I am getting there and I am happy about that. It's the little mistakes that make it perfect for me and now I enjoy doing my hair even if the parting can be off at times 😂

Wow, I can 100% relate to the scarcity mindset from working in the entertainment industry, especially as a black woman. I turned down a few jobs over the past couple of years because they didn't feel right to me in my gut, and each time I thought I was making a huge mistake. There's this whole mentality in the industry about "paying your dues," so since it was so early in my career I was thinking I had no right to be turning down opportunities. I literally thought I'd never work again. But it's funny how it always worked out in the end.

When I was in music school, my band director always said, "If you're going to play the note wrong, play it strong." This was the best advice ever, even to this day.

Wow. I can’t thank you enough for this video. I really REALLY needed to hear this. I’ve struggled with “perfectionism” for a long time and it can be so crippling, especially when you struggle with anxiety. I’ve never heard someone address it from this perspective before. Again thank you ❤

This is facts! I always tell myself, “just do it” that’s my motto but sometimes my thoughts take control of me. But I’m ready to just be doing it!

My business coach said “Done is better than perfect “ and I had to practice that for the last couple of years and it’s taken a weight off of my life!

First watched this when you published it in December, and now I'm back to watch it again. Thank you for this video because it was, and still is, incredibly encouraging! I've gone about my university semester and my hobbies, doing things "poorly" and gurrrllllll...the progress I have seen with my grades and quality of work has shocked me to the core. Once again, thank you!

This is how I feel about my power point presentations at work. I was thinking, "is this aesthetically pleasing, do I like the pics I chose, how do I feel about the way I did the words. I wish they would stop asking me to do them.

I appreciate this video because getting started is really the hardest part sometime. Self-doubt and self-sabotage are both real and so many of us struggle with either one, the other or both. Failure in my opinion is not trying and not succeeding, but instead it is never even trying at all.

I’m not exaggerating when I say this video changed my fucking life I am a certified people pleaser perfectionist and I don’t know why I never thought about doing anything poorly until you put it into words about avoiding criticism which is probably connected to the people pleasing and my RSD but I’m about to start doing shit poorly I will let you know how it goes and if it goes great I’ll be sure to tag you or something on my TickTock video
