@@zenbear9952 That explains it. Mormon's tried to convert me once and out of curiosity I attended to their sermons. One of the after-discussions they had was about slavery and....it got pretty wild. What I expected was that they'd say "Yeah, slavery is unthinkable these days, but the days back then it was just how it was", but instead they outright glorified it, claiming that biblical slaves had it better because they were "considered of member the family". Aside that it was more of an exception than a rule, that kinda raises unfortunate implications that they were okay of depriving someone from their autonomy, so long as they were "nice" about it. Then they also compared slavery to modern dependcies and addictions to slavery and claimed that they were accepted, despite that it is known many of them are harmfull. I understand that some addictions can truly shift fundamental characteristics in brains (like say, there's pretty credible research that strong opioids can alter your brain chemistry leading to personality shifts), but so far my addiction to coffee and video games hasn't led them to pick up a whip one morning and lashing my back bloody because I didn't get up from the bed quickly enough. And their stance on slavery is kinda icky even historical context. Joseph Smith III was an abolitionist and they had a big fight over it with Brigham Young, who ende up usurping Smith from church leadership. Quite predictably, when Smith left the main church, the new church he founded held the abolitionist stance where as Brigham Young whole heartedly embraced slavery. They can't really whitewash it: they can't say "well, times were different" because during those times, son of their faith's founder who lived during time of slavery could see the evil of slavery and sought rectify it. Which raises the question, why can't they in modern era understand what they did was wrong?
