Thanks for these videos Aaron. I grew up bass fishing but since moving to Oregon I've basically fished trout exclusively, but really want to get back into finding bass. Thanks for some of the ideas, no real idea where to catch them with any consistency around the area while I don't have a boat.
+rizzunk222x0 thanks! You definitely have to look harder to find good bank access fishing spots but there are plenty out there! Where in Oregon are you?
Beaverton area - planning to try out some of the local city ponds (Bethany Pond, Commonwealth Lake, Progress Lake) in the spring after it warms a bit (all are ~5 mins from me). I'm a bit chagrined to hear that there's fish in Waverly Pond, considering I lived off Waverly behind the Fred Meyer for about 2 years before moving back to the metro area :) I know Hagg has lots of bass, but the last couple years the yellowjackets and hornets have been unbearable from the bank. I fish Vernonia Lake a lot, but I'm usually just tossing worms for the catfish (I'd rather catch 8 catfish than 1 other fish during a session), but I'm quite excited to try out some of what I've learned about bass casting out there in the spring.
I fished a lot in Ontario, Canada as a kid, catching rock bass and smallies off my grandparents dock - mostly throwing spinners or Rapala rattlers. It's definitely a different world from the trout fishing I've done the last 20 years here in Oregon, and I'm excited to try and find some fish, hopefully without driving more than 1-2 hours from home. I know there's quite a bit down in the Albany area, especially Willamette tributaries such as Long Tom River, but I don't know if you can just cast into random ponds here like you can in all the videos I see from the midwest or south, and have any hope at warmwater fish.
+rizzunk222x0 awesome! Yes Waverly does have a decent bass population but they are very highly pressured. There are plenty of great places up there near Beaverton. Most city parks that have ponds will have bass in them, and are the easiest access I would say for bank beaters. I've also heard that the Tualatin river had smallmouth, lake Oswego has bass, etc. good luck!
Awesome, just saw this comment. I know some of the ponds around here do, though google doesn't provide much help as far as which and how many ;) I'll be hitting some of the local haunts as soon as we get thawed up here (Bethany Pond, Commonwealth Lake, etc) that are easy to get to. I'm just praying that Vernonia doesn't flood too bad as I imagine that will ruin the fishing prospects in Vernonia lake this year, and it produced a lot of fish for me last year (not many bass, but I wasn't specifically fishing bass at that point).
