I've got the Wychwood 25 litre rucksack i can't compliment it enough, very well thought out. I also have a Wychwood Boat Monster bag, obv for boat work, it's about 25 years old and still going.

Another great video Tim, you are very organised with your kit. Quick question, you fish at Chigboro quite a bit and you mention Walthamstow Reservoir, but do you ever fish Hanningfield Reservoir? I'm thinking about doing some boat fishing there, wonder if it's as good as Grafham or Rutland.
@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 3 года назад
I used to fish Hanningfield and guide there regularly as its 15 mins from me . Unfortunately it went any method 10 years ago . The fishery went rapidly downhill with the introduction of bait and is no longer a fly fishery . There's a huge amount of poaching and violation of rules which has led to it being a very uncomfortable experience. Due to the high levels of poaching there is very little recruitment from stocking meaning that the fish are hammered out of the back of the stocking lorry . This means there's massive dead areas of water . Hanningfield used to be one of the premium fly fisheries in the UK with people travelling from all over for the large numbers of grown on rainbows . Its sad but bait and fly just dont mix . That's why instead of driving 12 miles to Hanningfield I choose to drive 90 miles to Grafham .

@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 Thanks for the detailed reply Tim, sad to hear about that but I remember Hanningfield going any method (I used to work for the water company there) it was controversial at the time, but I hadn't realised about the poaching. I went out on a boat there on an introduction day in 2009 but sadly blanked. I would like to try reservior boat fishing again hopefully this year, but would need some training on the boat first to gain confidence. I see your point though, you have to go where the good sport is and good venue management is so important. I am actually about 20 miles from Blackdyke and have fished there a few times and really enjoy it. Caught some nice Trout from Home Water at Chigboro when I last fished there in 2012 - beginners luck with Cats Whisker! It is a nice fishery though. I'm cleaning my lines this weekend in preparation for going back out - thanks for the video on that! Thanks again and keep those videos coming :)

You don't use tip/midge lines at all when you're bank fishing? Is it that the particular waters you fish from the bank don't require tip lines or does the Bung more or less replace the need for them from the bank. Excellent video as always and thanks for uploading.
@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
Occasionally I will use a 12ft tip from the bank but a slow glass would be just as effective . Floaters offer the best control as a line and suit most bank situations . So the answer is no I dont bother with the shorter midge tips from the bank .

@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 Interesting, thanks for the reply Tim.
@ballzblue22

@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 one more question if you don't mind. Do you prefer a 40+ type intermediate line from the bank or just a standard uniform sinking line such as a Sixth Sense.
@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
@@ballzblue22 For bank fishing I favour the Wychwood ghost fast inter or Airflo clear fast inter , both cast extremely well and being clear lines are less spooky to pressured fish . If I am going to be throwing a big lure like a snake a long way then the airflo 40plus expert .

@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 2 года назад
Hi . OK these are Wychwood T2s , a lovely small water rod in a 9ft 7wt .. for the bigger lakes I use the RS2 rods in 10ft 7wt and 8 wt .. Thanks for watching .
@danielduane3614
@danielduane3614 3 года назад
Nice vid. Why do you like the 9 footers over the 10 foot rods?
@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 3 года назад
less rod to cast ! I use 10ft rods for the boats where you are using very long leaders and im often casting through the boat over someones head . The extra length gives me more control . On the banks this isnt an issue . Its a lot less tiring cstng a 9ft 6in rod as there is less wind resistance to deal with . Distance wise there is no difference ..
@danielduane3614
@danielduane3614 3 года назад
@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 interesting thanks. Here in South Africa the banks are often very steep or unmanicured so the 10 foot is essential for high backcasts.

Most lakes are fast switching to the buzzers mate . I would spend the first hour on a fast intermediate with a cat or a blue flash damsel . If your going to get fish pulling its usually the first hour is best . Then change to a floater .. couple of quill buzzers and a small fab ..

Those are Wychwood T2s 9ft 6in 7wts . Perfect for the small waters . Cast like a dream , light in the hand good for floaters and intermediate work . And most important they come in at the right price . I use them myself and for all my guiding and teaching .

This always make me laugh. All you need to fish the fly is a rod reel extra spool and a fly box period. You can always tell a converted corse fisherman by the amount of crap he schleps around.😂
