I hope you enjoy this video. This is my one hundred and foURTY THIRD "WHATS IN THE BOX" kit review and I hope to be completing this model when i have the necessary skills to do it the justice it deserves in a bout 10 years time. I have a model collection/stash of 33-40 1/72 Spitfires which i am currently building badly for the amusement or to the annoyance of my fellow RU-vidrs, As my competence levels are not sufficient to complete this model it will be held in reserve for when i deem the time is right. If you would like to see the of 33 Spitfires there is a link to my collection below. As a novice modeller my intention is to learn the various assembly techniques and skills required, especially that of painting, so as i can produce half decent looking models, I concluded the best way to do this is to start with something simple, personally i think the best way to learn a new skill is repetition; try, try and try again. Hopefully by completing these 33 Spitfire models i will learn a few tricks of the trade. Whilst doing this I am also hoping to improve my VERY basic RU-vid skills, so far just uploading these videos has resulted in tantrums of titanic proportions, yes unfortunately i am also techno-phobic.
Follow me on my novice modelling journey whilst I try desperately to overcome my midlife crisis. Questions and suggestions always welcome. Please like and subscribe and follow me on my ride!
Everything featured in this video has been paid for out of my own pocket. I am not endorsed by any person or company mentioned in this video.

PE can add a lot to a kit. Try a zoom kit from eduard to get yourself started. It can transform a cockpit.

Hello there @robbwatson2088 and thanks for watching. Currently in the novice stage of building, so i do worry about adding extra £'s to my kits and time, though i think there will be a time when i do look at extra's like eduard cockpit detail, though i want to get my head around weathering and some other techniques first. like i said in the vid, i have this as a future build kit like the USS Fletcher....up in 5 mins or way way down the kit building production line.

What have you got yourself into indeed ! It looks simultaneously a beautiful kit and an absolute nightmare: the carpet monster could become absolutely obese. I hope that there will be comments from other modellers who have built the kit who will give some indication of the time it has taken them to complete it. i can understand why you don't propose to tackle it any time soon, but good luck when you do, with or without the Eduard etches. Best wishes.

@georgeclements2742 i know, bitten off slightly more than i can chew with this and the USS Fletcher, but these are for the future, no hurry to build any time soon, the P/E looks incredibly scary. I assume this will take months of carefull building to build, probs put down, pick up, put down again. oh yes the carpet monster i am sure will get his fill.

Andy, the ribs along the sides are the armor protection belts. There is an existing Flower Class ship in, I believe, the Atlantic museum in eastern Canada. Check online for proper location, but they post some really good pictures. Good luck, Dane

Hi Andy. Oh dear Oh dear Oh dear , what have you let yourself into ? This is a lovely kit but I think that it might be out of your skills range for a good few years yet. I might suggest that when or if you ever decide to build this kit that you study that book closely. There are always some parts in kits that are not always accurate , so may need replacing or ommitting. I am not going to suggest a build process to you because at the moment I think that it woul be pointless. What I would say is keep it and then maybe one day when you think that your brave enough then give it a go. Or keep it for a few years and then sell it. You might double your money. Anyway , a lovely kit and a good video. Just think yourself lucky that you didn't buy the Matchbox version. That is in 1/72nd and its HUGE ! Good luck to you bud.

Thanks Brian LOL i think that every morning. and YES i think we agree this will be way down the schedule, like mentioned in the Birthday vid USS Fletcher 1/350 birthday next year, 1/144 Fletcher birthday two years away so that i suppose makes this ater 29/9/26 or perhaps in the run up to, either way i doubt very much this will be attempted over 4 days off, more like on/off over 4 months.

Hi @unclegargameldgargameld4888 it seems a bit epic and is way beyond my current skills, like the USS Fletcher i think it'll be one of those put down, pick up type things that take many months to build.

I built this kit about 2 years ago, and I can tell you that it is difficult enough, and fiddley enough without the PE extras that are available for it. It's a beautiful looking model when it is done, and I think you will feel a great sense of accomplishment, and relief when it is completed. Have fun.

hello there @paulsmodels and thanks for watching. Being a novice the P/E is terrifying, though i am thinking that perhaps i will not want to use all of it, though agree that it should make a nice kit with or without, TBH this will be a future project, LOL i have many and an 8 year plan to work to by the end of which time i am hoping to be pretty reasonable at this modelling malarkey. BTW i do like you HMS York.

It's not wrong to try a model kit of a difficult level, sometimes it's good to have a challenge.

Hello there @michaleeuwe and thanks for watching. i do agree though as a novice, every model is currently a bit of a challenge, though i am very much enjoying the challenge and hope to get on to some of my more complex kits in the near future.

If I were to build something like that I would have to get some crew figures, I prefer to see models with figures to get a better indication of their size in real life. As to the PE, that is an awful lot of brass but I don't doubt that it would look better for using it, its just that I would need to put it in a case to protect it.
@TheNoviceModeller
@TheNoviceModeller 20 часов назад
@martinoconnor4314 have seen this set up with figs and the fella had done a really good job of it and had set it up as the one from "The Cruel Sea" so think that might investigate figs when the time comes. the P/E i suppose you dont have to use all of it, currently my thinking is the superstructure and railings set are kinda doable but not sure about the weapons one as that seems to be mostly the depth charges, meh which i am guessing require bending and all sorts of manipulation.yes definitely some sort of case as looks like a MEGA DUST TRAP.
@martinoconnor4314
@martinoconnor4314 20 часов назад
@@TheNoviceModeller Hell Yeah! Could you imagine trying to dust that if it was full of PE? there'd be severe bendage all over it.

Wade the Matchbox version but we motorised it and used it in our local boating lake
@TheNoviceModeller
@TheNoviceModeller День назад
@MichaelCampin fair play, that sounds awesome, have seen some vids of motorized kits on boating lakes including some that seem to be battles with ships sinking, seems rathger dangerous for expensive kits that have taken ages to build.
@MichaelCampin
@MichaelCampin День назад
@@TheNoviceModeller when I got the model in about 1995, they werent that expensive and if done correctly they shouldnt sink, here a decent is required for the hull, we used a sealant used for fish tanks and it provided a good seal and our "model" still floats on the Roker Park boating pond.
@TheNoviceModeller
@TheNoviceModeller 20 часов назад
@MichaelCampin Roker Park? so you'll be from Sunderland then? i used to know a fella from Sunderland, i picked up the saying "thems the break's" from him LOL. The Fletcher that i have has a label for £59.99 on it, i paid £150 though got the Eduard P/E so seems reasonable as they are kinda rare now and the comparable Z destroyer they now do is about £100 new. Sealant seem to be the way to go then. guessing you had to put some sort of ballast in it as well?
@MichaelCampin
@MichaelCampin 20 часов назад
@@TheNoviceModeller yes Andy but the electric motor and the metal drive shaft and prop really helped. It was a bit of add a bit remove a bit until we got it just right.
@TheNoviceModeller

ah of course the motor would be a fair bit of weight.
