the main reason to update or buy icarus3 is that it sounds better than some hardware synths. This beast has just a massive sound. It eats serum for breakfast
Just upgraded. This machine can do literally ANYTHING: from vintage analog emulation to the most modern digital sounds, from delicate pads to wall shattering basses and leads. Tone2 are too underestimated in my opinion
I've heard from a couple people that they're confused by Tone2 synths because there's so many of them. I guess a monolithic concept like "Serum" is easier to understand/remember for people. It could help if someone made a video teaching about the differences between all the Tone2 synths.
Yeah I totally agree - I used to get buyer's confusion on this. In my view, Icarus 3 is the best because it has stereo oscillators and stereo filters, plus all the unison engines from the other synths. Electra is good too but it only has mono oscillators. Icarus has the most features of all of them and will be Tone2's last product I believe. I don't own all of Tone2's synths either, but Icarus is easily my favorite.
@@djmyr correct, Tone2 had announced there will not be any new products or major updates. Partly because of piracy, partly because of the unjustified criticism in forums that, according to Tone2‘s Markus, took a toll on the guy‘s health and marriage. Basically, he's had enough of the BS. I own their stuff and, being mainly a vintage guy, love SAURUS especially.
@@danielfisch389 I've been a customer for a long, loooong time. Some of the criticism was justified. I'm sure some went too far, but some really was justified. Markus has some issues. I think he's a little on the spectrum but may not be coming to terms with it or dealing with it properly. I feel bad for him on the one hand, but on the other... he needs to recognize when he's being unreasonable, and he doesn't. See his tiff with Urs Heckmann for details. Urs was clearly the more rational of the two, but not in Markus' mind.
I like their products, but stopped supporting due to how they do business. They want $150 Canadian for the upgrade, after spending quite a bit for a previous version. Previously I had offered to buy all their products, but they said I had to send a cheque accross the world and wait several weeks for it to process. This company has been chasing away my support for years, but ICARUS is for sure a POWERFUL plugin. Sometimes I think about coming back to buy more stuff, but I most likely will never spend another penny.
@@bobbyb6412 Markus Krause (the developer) wrote on KVR: "There are no plans for further major updates of our products. Icarus 3.0 will be the final major update. There will be also no new Tone2 products." It was also reported: "The health situation of Markus is serious and still not good. He was in hospital this year for 4 times. He is currently at home again, but he will not longer be able to work on synthesizer development as a full-time job." If the CPU load really is that low I might have to get it just for that reason, I've been stacking a mountain of Spires within Patcher and my CPU hasn't been too thrilled
I’d say try the demo/beta and see! If you’re running FL studio also be sure multithreading is on in the plugin settings - I used to have all sorts of issues with Spire because multithreading was off by default in FL Studio, and I was able to use it a lot more. Spire is such a great plugin too and I don’t think it’s as bad on the CPU as Vital, though I do think Icarus is less (I need to do an actual comparison though). But I agree the CPU usage is one of those things that is super important when choosing a plugin to use - it really sucks having to constantly render and freeze things
Well, I am never going to Tone 2 again. Years and years ago I bought Firebird, their 1st synth I think. Then they made freeware of it and ceased the support. It is glitchy in FL, and 32 bit only now with GUI uncomfortably small for modern monitors. Same with their WarmVerb fx plugin but this thing at least is not glitchy and still works.
The JP Supersaw and Virus TI HyperSaw replications are pretty much perfect. I've owned both synths many times and this sounds exactly like I remember them.
Yeah I was so impressed with the sound of both of these unison modes here in Icarus. Navira also does a good job too but I don’t think it’s available anymore.
