Weirdest name I knew in school was highschool, there was a girl named Au pronounced "Ow". Her dad was a chem engineer who thought it would be great to name his daughter after the element of gold. Absolutely gorgeous girl though.

I legit thought his name was Grant but they named him Garnt as like a joke nickname; I never would have figured it out without Garnt saying it directly.

My parents named me "Super". Ya. It's not in my documents tho (relief) cuz my parents had to keep my Chinese name there as for tradition and for my grandparents and other relatives to call me. My chinese name is composed of three characters that are respectively the family name, a generational name (search it up if u don't know but it's essentially a common name shared by all kids of the same generation in the family... yea very chinese i know but also kinda cool), and a name that my parents gave to me. The last one is "超°. (u can skip the whole naming explanation if u just want to know how i feel about "special" names from a very personal angle) My parents immigrated from China to Italy and I was born here. The idea behind the naming is that when the second child comes, they'll be named "越° (which did and is my sister now). Our names combined makes "超越°, which in Italian is the equivalent of "superare", or in english meaning to overcome, to exceed. I guess it makes a lot of sense for parents wanting to inspire their kid to always become a better version of oneself, but dang how it didn't translate well when they shortened it to "Super". Ofc they could very much known how pretentious that name sounds like, or that they could've as well have done something like adding "the Great" after your name. But they're content and proud about this name cuz in their eye I am and will always be the best, u know. Well, I wouldn't blame them cuz I could imagine the fun of bring up a kid named "Super", although I would never do that knowing how much pressure I had to live through just for a name. I guess I was lucky to have been quite a "good child" for most of my childhood, and I was known for being a mature kid that can behave around adults. But the same matureness came to bite me as soon as I started middle school, when I realized how big the world is and that if I want to ever achieve "big stuff" in life, I have to consciously work hard for it. I stated to kinda "live up" to my name, excelling in studies and music even though I barely started. I studied for four years in China so that was also a hard time for me to relearn Italian and adjust to Italian schools, yet in about two years I managed to get to top few of the class in all subjects, and by the third year all teachers from my school knew my name. I was the only one that got a full score in the 'nationalized' middle school exam in my grade (and the grade before but not sure about any other grades cuz I only saw them in those two summers posted at the gate of the school). By the time I have been learning piano for a year and half, I was about half a year ahead of all other kids of the same age in the repertoires we were studying, and they've been learning for three years. I don't think I was a genius or talented in any way but i was really working my butt off. But soon I also started to realize how much stress I was constantly feeling, and the idea to live up to my name as people tell my parents "oh your child really is SUPER" started to get into my head, in a unhealthy way. Even by then, I knew how unsustainable that was, but I couldn't stop because to be frank I was enjoying the "rush": well not really for the praise cuz being completely honest, I never really sought for praise (admittedly I was probably insensitive cuz I have been a well behaved kid pretty much for life at that point; but I totally understand that it's fine to seek for praise and not everybody is as "lucky" as how I was born without really consciously trying). I was really enjoying all the stuff I was learning and all the people I was meeting because I got to go for all the competitions and recommendations from teachers (they weren't anything big and are all pretty localized cuz I started kinda late... usually if u wanna be competitive u start playing an instrument before age of 8, or even 5. Some start at 3 but I personally don't think makes much difference at that point). Plus, I was kinda afraid I would ever fail to be 'super' despite I probably wouldn't admit at the time, so I just kept pushing. I later went to an international high school and learned English. Again a new environment, but I became a well known name around school after two years of hard work and frequent appearances in school events. Ofc probably a lot has to do with my name, and I knew it, but I was also trying to prove myself and how I didn't need my name to be a good student and person overall. Quite a lot happened in a good way, but by the time I get to my senior year (last of the four years, as in Americanized high school system) I finally broke. Honestly, I just couldn't do it anymore. By then I was in overdrive for 7-8 years, and in combination of some other stuff happening (I'll omit the details cuz it's kinda close to present time) I just went through a very nonchalant, unconcerned phase. Frankly, I didn't even try hard for a very ambitious college application list, cuz ofc teachers and my parents encouraged me to (and myself ofc despite all). Long and behold I got rejected by half of them (well top half to be exact) cuz my grades fell off at the end of the first semester of the final year (which is an important one ofc). I still got into a decent school tho in the UK tho. In college, I was doing ok at the start, but soon another tragedy of a grave significance to me personally happened (no detail cuz privacy but essentially someone passed away). By that point, I just couldn't bear it anymore. If in high school I at least had my friends to get a hold of me, this time there is nothing that can stop me from just losing myself completely in sudden yet continuous descent in my mental health. The event itself has nothing to do with my name, but the aftermath is I just couldn't get myself back to my "normal" self cuz I was just so "tired", mentally and "physically" if u know what i mean when psychs affects ur physicals. I was tired to be the "super" in my family, in school, among friends. I just want to be a guy; just normal. I would never suicide cuz I know the pain of losing someone and for that I'll always live for my family and friends; but godamn I wish sometimes I could just disappear from the world and just "rest" like truly rest, from my past, from my name, and from everything that happens in every instant. No doubt remain, I messed up all my studies, especially when the pandemic hit and I just went into depression, at home lol. I'm all fine now, but I failed my course. I am trying to pick up my life again and I am feeling much better doing so now. I don't know if I'll ever be 'super' again really, and i mean idk if i really want to either. The whole pandemic gave me a lot of time to think things over, made me more depressed sometimes but mostly I think i have a more balanced understanding of what i want to do in life and who i want to become. And most importantly i'm ok for a lager margin of "error" for whatever i'll become, partly cuz i lost so much already but also i just have a more healthy outlook frankly. It's a bless and a curse. If i learned how to see the world before, I think now i learned how to see into myself, so i guess despite how much i'd like to complain, I just have to accept it's life and at the end of the day a unique journey that belongs to me. Well didn't know I would write pretty much my life story just to talk about my name lol. Pretty sure the first time being this personal in a comment, and I don't even think anyone's got time to read through all this. Well at least I am now open to it and I did become a better self i guess in a way... so much for this name huh? 😂 By no means I have the worst life experience or anything, or that my name is the only cause to all the bad happenings I've been telling, but I can only hope whoever bored enough to read all this, if u got a "special" name or not, can feel better and can relate to such kinds of stories, and just be like "yeah, happens"; be appreciative for the life they have, maybe change a thing or two for the better, get help from friends or professionals when needed to... and well what other clichés can I put here lol. But truly, I just hope the best for everyone however this message can be to you and that's all. Like hope it does help or at least entertain or something, u know. peace

I understand, I always try to pronounce people’s names correctly. My name is mispronounced a lot to the point where I didn’t correct people. My name is Sariah it’s pronounced like Mariah but with an s at the beginning. I’ve been called Sarah, Sarahi, Ciera, sareeuh, sriracha, and even psoriasis. So there are still people who call me Sarah because I never corrected them. So now I just go by Ry and people occasionally call me bread ore rye bread.

Through my school life I have had some classmates who did have somewhat names that were hard to say or spell but it was understandable since their names were from a different language instead of English language.

My name is Calvin, literally from the Calvin & Hobbes comic strips by Bill Watterson (dad is a fan). The common mispronunciations are Alvin, Kevin or Colin. It doesn't help that I'm soft spoken. The worst I've ever heard my name be misspoken is Call-bean... I like to think my username is easy to pronounce - Spirit roman numeral 13. I have only ever heard my username be mispronounced once, as Spirit x-i-i-i, by Jesse "Nowacking" Nowack of TFS fame, during a live stream they were doing. I feel the name pain. My full name is Katherine, so the most common misnomers I've gotten are Kathleen, Katrina, and Katarina. Older people are also extremely quick to assign me the nicknames Kathy and Kitty. Even if I give someone my name and specify "Katherine with a K", I will sometimes see it spelled Kathryn 😑

Ok I definitely have too agree I find it really annoying when people get your name wrong. In my case it’s to do with spelling my name, like I have had it loads of times that even with my name spelled correctly right in front of them they still spell it wrong. Like I’m going too ask you whoever is reading this try and spell my name, I’m going too guaranteed you at least some of you will be stupid enough not too spell it correctly
