For the insulation, I assume it would be just as easy to make it like fiberglass batting- make the bats without air, hang them up in place then put air in? Never heard of something like this but I imagine it will be a great way. Really excited to see how it goes together. Thanks for all the videos. We appreciate the time an effort!
Entertaining and educational from my perspective, and I'm sure quite exhausting from yours. I appreciate you wearing your back brace, I like to think my previous comment had something to do with it. Maybe my ego getting the better of me, like you read and head all these comments, lol. Nice video series, you'er a better man than I.
I use the loader on my tractor to dump compost into two wheelbarrows lined up so they are the width of the bucket and then I can move the wheelbarrows where the tractor cant go. Faster than using a shovel. Maybe you could do that with the rock.
How many full rinses would y'all recommend? Now Figure how many extra days it would take. Because it doesn't clean up from just a casual spray-down. Now consider that it'll have water running thru it after installation. The worms will eat that dust and dirt and it'll get digested and into the food chain as minerals. Been there, Done that. Just chill out about the dusty rock, life's too short.
@@sminstudiosLife can be especially short if you are a fish that doesn't have clean enough water. A couple of days of work and a few hundred gallons are cheaper than potentially losing your first batch of fish.
The Realmartian, yes youre the great realmartian, I just have a question but based conseptual wise, i have been researching on acquaponics through your channel and its very interesting, but it comes to me a challenge on some part, [under your grow beads do you keep fish? and if so, does each lane contain it single pump? ] another thing is there a way a person can use a large tank in keeping fish and use a system to supply water through out the grow beds example like yours you got, will it be cool?], and another question [ how do you start making colonization of bacteria on begining of acquaponics?] a question [ on grow beds what is highly recommended rocks, or you can use many cause for some they recommend hydroton but is there another choice that will work best instead of hydroton?] question [ what fish capacity per growbed do you recommend on acquaonics?] thanks so much on educating me, its nice time to get on your channel, nyc work
You should have used your tractor to scoop the rock up with the bucket and then lifted the bucket into the air so all you would have to do is scrape the rock down from the bucket into the wheelbarrow, it would make it a lot easier and a lot better on your back
Why would you be freaked out by a T-Rex on Mars? Everyone knows they came here from Mars. 😄 Anyway your system looks Awesome! Keep the videos coming, I have learned a lot of things from them and you.

In your title, it asks "what is the best growing medium". Though I know you are using lava rock, but you don't state in the video..Why. Is it cheaper? Easier to get?
I thin k the least costly way to get the double layer plastic is to wrap both layers around a 2x4 (or any wood substrate) several times, then take another piece of wood and set screws through both pieces (and the plastic) to hold them tightly together. growerssupply.com and greenhousemegastore.com sell aluminum channels that are made to crimp the plastic together for the same purpose - cleaner looking but more expensive. Also for the bed flooding control, you mentioned that you might have one controller for an entire lane. Is there enough water in the fish reservoir under the lane to accommodate that volume of water being transferred to the beds at once? Should that be iffy, you could set up five controllers to flood the same bed across all four lanes so that the volume of water leaving the fish reservoir is never more than the volume from one bed.
thanks for the idea on insulation. I'm currently thinking of the quick "snap on" clamps made of pvc that they sell. On the bed filling...we dont fill all beds at onece...but instead fill one bed at a time sequentially. So yes there is lots of water that enables that CONOP
interesting points ,if anyone else wants to learn about aquaponics diagram try Morundan Total Aquaponics Mastery (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my mate got cool results with it.
