What was Wheaton like in the 1960s? Longtime residents John Hartness, Nick Kosiara and Larry Tabor have plenty of stories to share.
For starters, the north side of Wheaton had a horse race track and a nursing home with zoo animals used for therapy. What is now Northside Park’s sledding hill was a swimming pool built in the 1930s as part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Works Progress Administration projects.
Hear interesting stories about playing in “Cheese Creek,” what kids did for fun, and what it was like growing up in Wheaton in the era of The Beatles and the assassination of JFK. This recurring television series invites longtime Wheaton residents to share their stories of growing up in Wheaton to educate residents and preserve Wheaton’s history for future generations.
