Wheel bearing replacement Trailblazer SS

•Unplug the wheel speed sensor and remove all of the mounting clips. (New sensor and clips provided with the new wheel bearing assembly)
•Remove the (2) 18mm caliper bracket bolts. (leave caliper attached to bracket)
•Remove caliper/bracket.
•Remove rotor.
•Reattach caliper/bracket (avoid unnecessary stress on the brake line by simply reattaching the caliper while you work)
•Remove the 36mm axle nut.
Note*
It’s possible the axle and wheel bearing will be seized or semi seized together, do to rust and corrosion over the years. If that is the case spray penetrating oil between the axle splines and wheel bearing hub to help free it up. If you need to apply a little force with a hammer DO NOT hit the shaft without the axle nut, it will damage the threads not allowing you to start the axle nut when reassembling. The TRICK is to put the axle nut on the axle before you hit it with a hammer to avoiding damaging the threads.
•Remove the (3) 18mm wheel bearing assembly bolts. (located behind the wheel bearing)
•Using a hammer hit the top of wheel bearing assembly to free it up and pull it out.
•Remove the original backing plate and large rubber O-ring from original wheel bearing and install them on the new wheel bearing.
Tip*
Apply anti-seize on the splines of the axle when reassembling. Anti-seize will help the axle and hub from seizing together over time.
•Reinstall the wheel bearing assembly. (Put the axle nut on by hand a few turns to help hold assembly in place)
•Install and tighten the (3) 18mm wheel bearing assembly bolts. (Located behind the wheel bearing assembly)
•Remove caliper/bracket.
•Install rotor.
•Reinstall caliper/bracket and tighten the (2) 18mm bolts caliper bracket bolts.
•Tighten axle nut.
•Plug in wheel speed sensor with all the new mounting clips.
•Double check and make sure all bolts are tight before putting tire back on.
VERY IMPORTANT
Anytime you remove a brake caliper you need to PUMP the brake pedal BEFORE you start the vehicle. MAKE SURE you have a firm brake pedal before you attempt to drive the vehicle.
