Here is a classic segment of "Wheel of Fortune." Here, Pat says that he is leaving the daytime version and will host the nighttime version of this game show. Watch as Pat and Vanna starts kiss when the boss Merv Griffin shows up.
For those thinking when Pat and Vanna kissed, "how would their spouses feel?!" Well, at that time of this episode both were single; Pat divorced a few years earlier. Vanna eventually got married two years later.
Thanks for clearing that up because that's what I was thinking. Pat only did what every man in America wished at the time that they could do, but it's good to know that there were no spouses at the time who would've become jealous lunatics after seeing it.
I've never been more jealous of a game show host in my entire life. Even if it was a "goofy" kiss, Pat still got up in there! Lucky boy, as Vanna was - and is - like the Princess Diana of TV hostesses.
Wow, I almost forgot how gorgeous Vanna was! She's still absolutely beautiful... And dang, Pat practically ate her face off. He was trying to go for an open mouth kiss i the beginning. LOL. Poor Vanna. : D
Come here baby!!! Haha such a historic moment! Vanas speech of pats retirement, she mentioned pat as a brother. I dont think a brother or sister do that kiss. I always thought since I was a kid, that they were a couple!
haha I thought the same thing. This happens now and its how she "feared for her life and would have been fired if she didnt agree to the predatory evil men wanting me to smooch" They both are laughing and its funny. Nothing more than that. Crazy people today are conditioned to think this is evil or some sort of abuse of power.
Yep men were men and women were women. Things were natural and beautiful. I'm only in my early to mid 30s and this was still the world I grew up in. It didn't become a bunch of weirdo degenerates until honestly the last 5-10 years.(5 more) Shame.
Merv Griffin comes out, here comes trouble which led to Pat's embarrassment cover his face with a Free Spin token. Merv made a reference on Geraldo & Oprah.
When Merv Griffin came out, it looked like he had this look like he was angry as heck. But he wasn't angry at all. I thought he was going to fire Pat for that.
How embarrassing! I couldn't have done it! At least not in front of all those people no freaking way! I couldn't tell you how nervous and scared I would be my heart would drop to my stomach I would probably piss my pants! I give him props for not just doing it but in front of all those people and Vanna as well for going along with it this was just unexpected I've never seen anything like this before on any gameshow! Pat is the man!
@@bob644Vanna could have been caught off surprised all of the sudden with no previous knowledge about it and just went along with it cuz she’s a cool sport! Plus she’s also in front of millions of viewers how do you expect her to act?
This was back when there were 2 versions of WOF, Daytime and PM, this was the daytime show, and he had left to do a talk show for CBS, trying to beat.... was it, David Letterman?
Letterman was on at 12:30 Eastern at the time. Sajak was competing not only against the undisputed king, Johnny Carson, but also against a syndicated upstart named Arsenio Hall, who pretty much shook up the late-night talk show scene by drawing the younger, big money audience. NBC at this point were trying to replace Carson with either Letterman or Leno, but Carson announced his retirement before NBC got the chance to get rid of him.
How could he not be attracted to her back then? She was a knockout and he wasn't too bad either. How could they not have slept together? That sexual work tension can be enormous
I can't believe that pat and Vanna kissed and they got caught by merv griffin and both merv and pat shakes hands with each other and Vanna White gives a kiss on the cheek on merv
Nope, no sexual assaults. They only kissed, that’s all! If it was, Vanna would have filed a lawsuit against pat and Pat wouldn’t host today. Pat would never hurt his best friend Vanna in his life and besides, they’re been friends for 39 seasons!
@@anthonyguarino4242 Exactly! Not like she turned her face away or pushed him back and won't slap him across the face on live TV(but probably wanted to) like a lot of women would to most men trying to make that move instead she just went along with the kiss and looks like they both were enjoying it but for some reason I feel like it's all staged like it was already planned from the beginning almost like some kinda publicity stunt or something since Vanna jump right into it with absolutely no problem(most women wouldn't) when Pat made the move and also it was their last time working together. However, I do feel kinda weird and awkward watching this though it almost sends chills down my spine!
@@GranTube yes, it was awkward but Vanna went along with the kiss and Merv Griffin wasn’t mad that they kissed, not even Pat’s wife would mind! So it’s all good!
can someone clarify for me. So apparantly wheel was on daytime, and then it was also on primetime so he stayed host in prime time. While vanna stayed also in daytime. So who was the new host in daytime? or did pat unretire? or did they nix the daytime show entirely?
In January 1989, Sajak left the daytime version to do his talk show. While Sajak stayed on the nighttime version of Wheel, Rolf Benirschke became the new host of the daytime version until NBC canceled the daytime version in June of that year. When the daytime show went to CBS (and back to NBC until it was canceled for good in 1991), Bob Goen hosted the daytime version while Pat Sajak stayed on the nighttime version.
@@UrsusTheodorusdoesGameShows very intresting. Thanks for answering. I never heard of either of those individuals. Glad neither of them bounced pat from the evening version out of curiousity how did you find this info? or you watched then and remember this?
@@326vinceyes. He was forced to retire from football after being diagnosed with Crohn's disease. He was on a local talk show talking about it and Merv just happened to be watching invited him to a meeting and got him to host a pilot for another show that never got picked up. Soon after when Pat left, he convinced Rolf to take the job. Merv thought Rolf's story was so inspiring that people would love him. But turns out Rolf had never even seen wheel of fortune before and had pretty much 0 hosting experience so he was way out of his league and only got a couple of days to prep before they started taping. He did get better over time but probably should have picked someone with more experience.
Vanna and Pat would've made a cute couple. I miss the 80s and 90s, best decades ever...Where we all had fun, got along and weren't whiny, wimpy and politically correct.
+Pat LOL i know right, it's hilarious when the audience erupted into wild cheering over it and Merv's appearance is as well when he showed up (likely from backstage) and neither Pat nor Vanna noticed him while he just stood there watching a little before making his presence known. The part where he does the "Why are you leaving my show?" fake sadness bit is great too, because you can tell he was just hamming it up for the camera.
@@justinmiddleton8818 Even today you can tell he still sorta diggs Vanna lmao in a recently replay of a 2019 episode during this quarantine, when they wrap the show at the very end, Pat made a joke that he and vanna should go on a trip with their respective partners, then says or me and you can go together and they can join us later LOL he's joking but like I can feel this vibe he diggs Vanna underneath the smiles lmao i can just feel it
Back when people were allowed to have fun and not be “offended” by everything. Nowadays, Pat would’ve been cancelled and labeled as a predator. Thank God I grew up during the good old days!
