Kate is great. Her scenes with Zoe give the perfectly awkward “android trying to simulate human connection” vibe.

While I loathe the character of Liandrin (particularly from the books), Kate has been doing an absolutely incredible job in that role. Not going to say I want to like Liandrin, but major points to Kate on this portrayal. And... she dropped a perfectly Jordanesque "Watch and find out" in the interview.

Kate Fleetwood is so cool! She reminds me of Rosamund Pike. I am so thankful these women are supporting Aes Sedai at the forefront of The Wheel Of Time television series. Literally perfection.

Love the WAFO...she's a WOT pro. This was a terrifically insightful interview. It's beautiful how she's perfectly capturing the "no one is a villain in their own story" idea. She speaks of Liandrin in a way that makes you want to like her. Wonderful!

As a book fan what I loved about her potrayal of Liandrin is that she made me care. When I read the books, Liandrins fate was never something I bothered about as long as she was stopped. But the series and Kate made me wonder how intricate they would make her. Moreover it made me realise that she is a person with her own story. I really can't wait to see Liandrin next season. I think bringing the 2 D character from the book to have a 3rd dimension is one of the best things about the character.

Hearing Kate talk about the corridors of power is such a foreshadowing for later events, even tho she isn’t way far enough into the story, oh I love it. There is so much thought put into every scene, line and movement, it is crazily stunning

I knew of Kate Fleetwood before seeing her on the Wheel of Time show! In High School I read Macbeth for english class and once we finished it, our english teacher showed us Macbeth(2010) in class. I ABSOLUTELY adore this movie and it is in major part due to Kate Fleetwood's performance as Lady Macbeth. She is incredible in the movie and I highly recommend it to any shakespeare lovers out there.

Kate, as a huge wot book fan I have to say I'm not overly impressed with the Amazon tv show. However, I absolutely love your portrayal of liandrin. Brilliant. You stole the show. Your 'chat' with nynaeve is actually my favourite scene of the tv show so far. And worthy of an award nomination. The light flippant entrance. Changing your tone to open nynaeves interest. The sudden intensity with the display of power. The husky change of your voice when nynaeve pins you. The throaty monologue at the end. Great writing but holy Moley girl you pull it off. 9.5/10. Keep it up

Well as if we didn't already know it now we really know she's a fantastic actress because she's just so nice and soft as a person herself! And Liandrin is a tough as nails B! Kate even sounds different as Liandrin. Great character analysis from her as well and love that they've really given Liandrin more of a personality in the show.

People tend to try and gift things they themselves would want to be given. As Liandrin grew up very poor, I think her first reaction is to offer food to Nynaeve; someone she may think also comes from a humble background.

*screams* You asked her. You really asked her!!!!! The biggest surprise for me is that the face touch was scripted. I didn't get any declarations of true love, but Kate gave me just enough to keep my shipper heart burning onwards. This is now officially my fave episode of the dusty wheel. Off topic: I had a thought that maybe y'all could do exit interviews with each cast member as they are inevitably killed off through the next 8 seasons. Allow each actor to say goodbye and to reflect on their time on the show, and let the audience thank them for their service. Not one-offs like Dana, obviously, but when the bigger characters are reallocated to their next lives. It could be fun and healing.

Liandrin's character is very well fleshed out in the books. Obviously she's not a main character so there's only so much time RJ can dwell on her but if you put all the tidbits throughout the books together you have a very well written character. She's a little one dimensional, purely ambitious, sadistic and evil and Kate Fleetwood has definitely added many more layers, along with how she's written in the show, but you can't say she's an underdeveloped character. True, she falls off once the forsaken arrive. It certainly feels like Jordan dropped her in the middle of a football season. But her character is clear and her arc fully fledged. She's a vicious psychopath who does horrible things and then is turned into a powerless, tortured slave.

@JoshTruff
@JoshTruff 2 года назад
It sounds to me like she doesn't know the book character at all. It doesn't make sense to me what she is saying at all given her character in the books. If that is the case that seems like an incredible red flag to me and explains a lot about the whole production.
@Dreamchain17
@Dreamchain17 2 года назад
Everything she said about the book character factually tracks. She hasn't read past TGH but actors are often instructed not to read too far ahead. Not sure what you're referring to unless it's just a matter of taste. I have issues with the show but Liandrin's portrayal is NOT among them.
@JoshTruff
@JoshTruff 2 года назад
 @Dreamchain17 As much as I don't mind her portrayal and think she did a great job of being sus the actual character is nothing at all like the book character. The book character is very formal and never nice. One particular statement being made in the comments and in the interview is that everyone thinks they are the hero in their own story. I disagree with this she very clearly understands she is evil and she doesn't care. She actively thinks every other person is beneath her. In the show I can't understand why she would care that her red sisters would find some man she meets? Are we now saying that she has some lover? Or are we supposed to misinterpret that while she is actually meeting some darkfriends? Why would she care if her red sisters go to find some darkfriend? How would they know thats what he is? She could just say he was part of her eyes and ears. I think it doesn't make sense unless her character is not acting as she should. Maybe they are going to drop her ajah from the books altogether. I would of leaned more that it was just bad writing before this interview but now I wonder if they even bothered to tell her her book character or perhaps have changed her so much that they thought it was not worth doing. "The little girl in her says I have gone too far" Another statement that is imo a huge red flag. Her little girl is dead, her soul is sold, to frame anything that way is to either not know the character or to be playing a different character altogether.
@Dreamchain17
@Dreamchain17 2 года назад
@@JoshTruff I think this is just your personal taste. Her very first POV is about her being afraid of sunsets and sunrises because it's when the day/night dies. Just because someone is a bad person doesn't mean they don't experience fear, doubt, or anxiety. Very few people are "never nice." You assume that because you see her interacting with people in specific hierarchies of power--fellow Aes Sedai, novices and Accepted, etc. The show shows her trying to influence someone she doesn't have institutional power over--Nynaeve, which by the way she's failing miserably at. I'm also not sure where you get the idea she thinks she's evil. Just because she thinks others are beneath her doesn't mean she thinks she's evil. Maybe I haven't read a Liandrin POV recently enough, but she's not a sociopath in the way, say, Alviarin is. Most bad people don't think of themselves as bad. As for the man in Northharbour, if he IS a Darkfriend, do you think she'd just shrug off Moiraine's threat, or it would at least make her nervous enough to shut up for 5 minutes? If he is a darkfriend she doesn't need anyone making a connection to him for her to have to explain away. Also keep in mind this is a different Turning of the Wheel. The characters can be different. Of all the changes they made, making Liandrin more three-dimension with a phenomenal actress is not something I'm complaining about.
