Forget Rand being bald, I want to know how they justify him being marginally competent with a sword when they've cut all of Lan's lessons. The mentor relationship with Lan was a major loss in explaining how Rand was able to move into a leadership role and with how they ended season 1 it is extremely difficult to see an alternate route to it.

The scene with the Amyrlin seems to be taking place in Cairhien. Although she's seated in the Amyrlin seat, the seat itself is not in the Hall of the Tower in this shot, it's on a dais with a rising sun pattern, and the floor of the chamber is a sun surrounded by sun beams. I'm guessing Moiraine finds Rand in Cairhien and summons the Amyrlin there. Although that doesn't explain Rand talking to Logain. So, who knows. Maybe I'm wrong.

Damane training varies, I recall reading about a damane who had her tongue amputated, or maybe it was her hands, as punishment and someone commented that she didn't need that body part to channel. Probably a mixture of both. I can say from the perspective of someone who's been reading and rereading these books for 20+ years, I catch a lot more of the nuance and layers the put into the show that newer readers, especially for anyone who hasn't completed the series, and the prequel, wouldn't necessarily pick up on. For the show they are definitely adapting the entire series as a whole rather than going book by book, so season 1 has refrences to the final book as well as the prequel, New Spring, and bits inbetween. They are setting things up and establishing parts of the world, politics, and interpersonal dynamics in season 1 that probably won't fully developed/understood until season 3 or 4(books 4, 5, 6, etc). But there are also valid criticisms too. Season 1 had pacing issues, big time, it felt really rushed at times. And Covid really messed up episodes 7 and 8.

@@csarmii for the record I didn’t know the song, I just thought the tone and lyrics were cheesy and a little too on the nose. It’s a common failure of marketing groups butchering the actual finish product with terrible trailers composed of “popular” music sound beds and cut scenes. “I’m bigger than my body, stronger than my demons…” That song sounds too contemporary, too real world. I would have preferred nothing but an instrumental sound bed, but if you must have lyrics, then possibly a dirge reminiscent of Thom’s piece in S1, that is more reflective of the actual world setting.

I definitely don't like the music choice, but I'm still excited for season 2. I'm going to disagree with you on the Lanfear thing. I think they're going to keep one actress and not change faces. I don't think there is any woman, alive, that can achieve the beauty that Lanfear is described as in the books. Nobody is that flawless. Sadly, I feel like we're not going to get Gaul. I think Rand being bald is him cutting his bright red hair off to try and hide that he's Aiel, like he hasn't fully accepted it, yet. I think the Amyrlin is going to be talking to Rand in Cairhein. That wasn't the white tower (there were a lot of rising sun motifs around that room). In the books, the Siuan visits Fal Dara to check on the situation, so I think they're going to change it to Cairhein (which puts Rand in place with Seline and Verin at the fete). I think they're just going to be extra and have the Amyrlin carry around a smaller version of her throne.

It's kinda like how they decided not to show the agelessness, because how would that actually work on screen? It would just look extremely weird. They don't have to make Lanfear the most beautiful woman in the universe to have her fill the role of Lews' crazy ex gf. I'd rather the show put emphasis on her ability to manipulate Rand through words and emotions, rather than a seductive appearance, which could feel really cliche in 2023. Lore-wise & how the show treats the source material, Suan's "you're the water that turns the wheel" comment is a _deeply_ troubling red flag; the Power is what moves the Wheel, as ta'veren, around whom the Pattern turns, Rand is at most an axis. There's no retconning what went down in S01 and I'm head canoning it as a mirror word or future/past iteration to deal with it, but changing such a fundamental part of the story - not just "a detail" such as the timing of events and places - doesn't bode well for keeping the story (at least loosely) intact.

All said, it seems like they’ve given characters more to do as they don’t have to set-up as much. I expect the episodes will be more character-centric, though still ensemble.
