This was a brief test of my Whelen Vortex O2 siren that was conducted after the usual countywide test at noon, using only a couple blasts of the discontinuous air horn tone due to this particular test happening much later than the normal test time. One of our next-door neighbors was within close proximity to the siren working in her garden at the time of the main test , so I opted to wait until later in the afternoon when she was done to do a quick functionality test on this one.
Normally this siren would be set up with all four cells (it's technically a Vortex O4), however I decided to drop it down to only two cells due to how close it is to the house. As you can see, I have the speaker head temporarily located up on our back deck for the time being, with the control box for it sitting just inside the door underneath the deck that leads into our basement.
With the consecutive rounds of severe weather outbreaks we've had so far this month here in the Southeast, I decided to stick this one up there and have it ready to go in case we are included in any severe weather warnings that meet the county's criteria for siren activation. The Model 2 will also likely get to run in tandem with the Whelen in the event that we do end up with a warning, provided we don't lose power at that time since the Model 2 is obviously AC only.
VIDEO NOTES:
The first clip was shot on my Canon T3i at ~100 feet, using its native microphone. The second one was from my old Canon HF-R10 placed on the front porch, also using its native microphone.
