Classical music is not universally beloved, same way classical books are not universally beloved. Just because once upon a time some old European men wrote some nice tunes, that doesn't mean centuries later every kid who wants to play piano has to enjoy the genre. Or at least I think that's what's going on, just my opinion. I played clarinet and bass guitar for years and I hated being told that I wasn't playing "real music" just because I preferred contemporary/pop

@@ButterflyScarlet Absolutely! You'll notice that that's why I said to give a listen to these greats, but after that you can judge them for yourself, and listen to what you like. Interestingly enough, as a classical musician, I've been told repeatedly that I don't play "real music" just because I play classical music :/ I think that both sides of the classical/modern debate could stand to gain a bit of respect for the performers and composers on the other side- even if you don't particularly like it, you can still recognize that someone like Bach was an incredible musician, and so is someone like.... um.... _insert name of famous pop composer here, since I can't remember any names at the moment_, and respect that the preferences of one or the other are both equally valid. :)

@@mineyoo1999 nothing wrong with that in my opinion. It also depends on your mother tongue how hard it is to pronounce certain words and names. As a German speaker it is just always funny to hear English speakers pronounce Germand names in particular to me - no hard feelings though, props for trying. I'd rather someone try and fail than just not try at all.

Honestly I'm sure that all the music students are too busy practicing their own stuff to be worried about who's using the practice rooms (unless they need a room and you took the last open one). If you want to practice, go for it! If someone confronts you about being an amateur, the issue is with them, not you.

I recommend just not being in the practice room around the time of juries because that's when it becomes cutthroat for practice rooms Also enjoy learning!

I sympathize with this so much. Especially since our piano is severely out of tune and broken (some keys are just stuck together), so no matter how much I've practiced, it's still painful to the ears 😂 let alone I'm a self taught beginner and it's in an open area. Where people come to study and hang out. Not fun.

The non piano majors are probably in the same level as you. No judgement. It's basically like going to the gym. Sometimes there are assholes but most people are there to do their thing.
