The Airbornce troops were legendary on D-Day.

It has been remarked that the rather messy airborne drop worked in the allies favour to a huge degree. If the 82nd and 101st had landed exactly where they should have done then the Germans would likely have been able to quickly work out what the objectives were and, possibly, counter attack. The combination of well trained and well briefed troops, each knowing where they should be, as well as drops apparently at random all over the place, left the defenders totally bemused and unable to counter anything - whilst the Americans were able to gather themselves together and continue to their targets.

How about changing the headline from “Americans” to “Allies” as many of us will know that there was a couple of dozen or so or more soldiers from Britain, Canada & as time passed French etc. soldiers.

There are to many stories that leave them out, like the Brits saying almost nothing of the Poles who fought along side . Human nature.

I’ve been an amateur WWII historian since I was about 10 years old and I still have a hard time wrapping my brain around the fact that Americans who landed in North Africa initially fought the French.
