Louisiana requires a written request to cancel your policy. If someone is going to be without a car for a while, I often recommend they get a named non-owner policy, so it will be easier for them to get a regular policy down the road.

What happens if you cancel your policy & they say you owe money? What if you don’t pay?

If there is a balance left after you cancel, they’ll usually set up a way for you to pay it otherwise, they’ll sell the debt to a collection agency.

My old policy renews each 6 months. I'm trying to switch but now they are threatening with 12-months due in full now. What did I do wrong?

The easiest way to understand this is by considering how the car is registered. If you're permanently relocating and registering your vehicle in a new state, you'll need to obtain a new insurance policy that complies with the requirements of that state. In many cases, you'll need to secure insurance before the DMV will allow you to register the vehicle. When leaving states like MA, NY, and NJ, it's important to note that they require you to cancel your plates before canceling your insurance policy. Some states also require you to sign a cancellation form for the process to be completed. Depending on the circumstances, NC and MA may impose a small cancellation fee if you terminate your policy before it's due for renewal. Additionally, if your vehicle is financed, storage coverage typically isn't permitted.

Just let them know you went with a different company and let them know the date your new policy starts. If it’s Geico, you’re going to be on the phone for a while, the try to convince you to stay and reshop. If it’s an agent, they’ll ask you to sign a document most of the time but they’ll ask to see your new policy because most of the time a cheaper deal means someone cut your coverages. Either way they’ll all initiate a cancellation

hello sir, i took a car insaurance from a company in sydney, and after 5 months i sold my car. and i called them to cancel my insaurance and they cancelled. but i got an email , they get 336 dollar for the rest of the year. why. i paid monthly.. what should i do now?

You need to call their billing department and find out what the issue is. Unless you owed them for a time they covered you, it sounds like it might be a mistake.
