As an Asian who has been personally targeted during the pandemic both verbally & physically I am disgusted by the ignorance & misinformation taught & spread "ppl" towards others different from themselves or what they consider to be "normal." We are born without bias or hate. It is something to taught. My family could have taught my generation to hate whites after my family was held in an Interment Camp durning WWII but no we were taught tolerance & to be respectful of others that are different from us.

@@Lydia-rb8so Thank you. I got lucky while I am more than aware of "differences" I am also color blind. I believe just like physical beauty a person's skin color only runs skin deep. We all bleed the same blood. We are all the same species from the planet. (Although that is high questionable sometimes)

And yes, racism is taught, as anti-racism is taught (and not being passive). I have 2 boys and I'm doing all I can to make them take a stand against any social issues and not just watch (starting at school/kindergarten).

People expect us to listen songs that are either in our native language or EnGLisH. “Music is a universal language, to which everyone can relate to”. I listen to Korean songs, because I can connect my emotions to it. And there, English songs are only about 18+ stuff or are party songs with aggressive beats. And tbh my country’s songs are same. (Meaningless lyrics and only party songs).

FACTUAL QUESTION: Does EVERYONE who attends the Opera literally UNDERSTAND the Language that is Sung in Italian or German? Are ALL the Audience Bilingual and Fluent? If so, then are there SUBSTITLES Projected on Top of the Stage? Anyone? Hello? Therefore, Case and Point, you DON'T NEED TO UNDERSTAND KOREAN to enjoy BTS' MUSIC! PERIOD.

Racism is definitely taught. Some blatantly and others through action. Words spoken as you grow up, especially around 9-13 will really define your world view for a while, especially words given by respected authority figures in your life. People need to get out of their isolated bubbles and really need to see the world. Not their 100km only radius.

Why should I listen to songs that are not in my language, for example K-Pop? Well, English isn't my first language - like it isn't for THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE IN THE WOLRD - and the American music industry expects us to listen to English songs all the d**n time!

The fact that they (those who use the Korean language to diss bts) think no one would listen to anything they don't understand while still expecting the whole world to speak english. And expecting them to watch American shows etcetera, the double standards

I'm so tired of all these people who say "why do you listen to music you dont understand". First of all, what i listen to is non of your business cuz it literally doesnt affect you in any way. Second, before i learned english i also couldnt understand "normal" pop music from the us or uk. Like most of the world, my native language is not english but music in english is still the "mainstream" although many people cant understand it. And as you said there are subtitles. Its not that hard.

Tbh, I think fighting fire with fire is necessary sometimes. Us lgbt+ people didn't get their equal rights by standing there and wagging our fingers, we had to meet homophobes with the same energy. Racism is what this country is built on, from the moment a white man stepped on this land all the way up until today. Personally, I don't think being peaceful is enough anymore 🤷🏽‍♀️

The language thing… ex.Despacito was a big song a couple of years ago, but I don’t remember it being a thing about it being in Spanish why is it so “wrong” to listen to a song in Korean and love it but not in Spanish ( no hate to Spanish it is just the first song I think of, I’m sure there are other languages as well)
@sistermania3761

I bet you some of those people were vibing to Gangnam Style a couple of years ago too, freaking hypocrites. People from all over the world listen to music in English without knowing what it mean but no one bashes them for it (I remember being like 4 and singing in Eng without actually knowing Eng), and then suddenly bc it's in an Asian language you're doing something worthy of hate??? What kinda logic is that?
@loredell
@loredell 2 года назад
I'm Spanish and I h8 both songs mentioned. Like a lot, but that's me. LOL. Anyway, if people enjoy the vibes is OK, I guess... I don't agree with the lyrics, and in general that genre lyrics as they are really toxic tbh... And as much as I say "if I want to listen to something in Korean/Japanese/Hebrew I will do so", mostly bc I like the song, but please ANYONE please check what are you singing about at some point :_( Because if I love BTS (and JP bands) so much it's not because they sing in this or that language, is because of what they sing about. I hope you know what I mean. I'm not having any double moral, I URGE anyone to read their lyrics, whatever the language, after vibing with a song ^^ So yeah, I think mostly of the Despacito thing was the US having to had accepted that half of it are latinxs lol, but they still won't accept the other half are Asian... mmm which leaves no room for white people lol, but let's make it 40/40/20? I, as a Spanish, have been singing in a different language practically all of my life: since age 2 at least (my parents have me on tape), so as soon as I could, and earlier with help of my parents, I've always made sure what is it that I'm singing about :)
@loredell
@loredell 2 года назад
@@laurainathunderstorm The Gangnam Style sure, but more that vibing they took it as a joke (it is, but more a criticism of sorts) and didn't move on from there. Like it were a "nonsense" song :/
@laurainathunderstorm
@laurainathunderstorm 2 года назад
@@loredell yes, it's very important to know what you're singing about, my family doesn't really care about that kinda thing but I have like a fixation with lyrics and there's some popular songs (whether it be in Spanish, my native language, or English or German, Korean or any other) that I just can't stand listening to when I can understand what they're saying (this coincidentally includes both Despacito and Taki Taki as well).

You’re so right…racism is taught. I think (intellectually) that racism is a reaction to fear of the unknown, or distinct differences against unfamiliar cultures(my opinion only), and it is a global affliction. And your right that Army takes offense at any negativity thrown at BTS. They will rise up and take your ass to task, court or church. Your best line though was (to paraphrase) “Karma’s a Bitch and Will bite you in the ass, and I know y’all love y’all’s asses”. Pretty sure I laughed until I snorted! 🤣

The difference between kpop and anime and why you don't hear backlash is because of gender mostly. Remember anything men are into is fun and normal but anything women are into has to be effeminate and a lesser hobby. Men doesn't recognize that sports fandom can be horribly destructive but kpop fans are considered "crazy" "fanatical" etc. Have they not seen all the mostly male soccer fans or the mostly male fans when their team wins a championship? The one they talked about mentioning they aren't on weverse, her name is Tamar Herman and she has said tons of bullshit about BTS then tried to turn around a write a book about them. Like ARMY wouldn't remember her saying she was sick of BTS and tired of talking about them until it came time to try and make money off of them.

As someone who is part Asian, and who was a huge fan of Anime back when it first came to the US (even before it was popular, like in 1996/1997), I can say that Anime was def subject to a lot of this same bs then too. People would do the slanty-eye thing at me when I would talk about it, and also say the same stuff about “who would watch it bc no one can even understand it” and said that it was weird. I got made fun of and was ostracized because I was into it in middle school. It was nothing like it is today. I’m hoping that BTS and Kpop gets more accepted in the future like anime eventually became more accepted through the years.

Just the other day someone thought they were dissing me by saying "I will not read translations to make you feel better about yourself", but I never said that anyone should read translated lyrics, my comment was about how I wished people would not skip Suga verse on the Juice WRLD track just because it was in Korean. the language thing.. so many countries know several languages, esp English, sometimes mandatory, i only remember French and Spanish being avail in school, i am teaching myself Korean, (Pronouncing is difficult since I can only rely on kdrama/kpop/youtube to be sure how a word sounds,) & hearing ppl slam others for their "bad" English is maddening, I understand how uncomfortable one can feel with pronunciation while learning a language behind closed doors neverminded in front of billions of people. we do not need to be downing anyone ESPECIALLY those trying to learn a language so they can communicate with English speakers yet when they come to say America they get blasted for not knowing English. WHICH IS IT!? make up your simple minds. there are so many double standards & I wish people would worry about they damn selves, even more... THINK FOR THEMSELVES. the ignorance is so frustrating, especially this day & age. we should be evolving. not falling back 💙 ARMY UNITE💜

I have this pet peeve about anyone slamming anyone's pronunciation or accent in any language. The amount of accents I hear in English is staggering, including my own family. I don't think anything of it other than they must know more languages. Every once in a while a word spoken is hard to understand and gently correcting it helps. It's what I hope to have when speaking another language to a native speaker. Not someone making fun of how I speak, because I'm going to have an accent, but acceptance and occasional help I always wonder how these people that deride others accents or trying another language have any idea how truly hard it is. Because I don't think any of these people really know or want to try because they'll get back what they threw out there.
@Punkichu
@Punkichu 2 года назад
@@marissa1341 Exactly this. I was thinking the other day how ones accent would define their pronunciation, especially in the beginning. I'm sure if someone had a STRONG southern accent, or Spanish accent, etc. whatever language they may be learning might be completely different sounding than someone from another area. making someone feel uncomfortable because of this is ignorantly awful. of course we are all going to have a unique accent of sorts. acceptance is absolute key. It needs to be raised from the seed to the tree!

About the "why do people listen to songs they don't understand" question. I swear on Jimin's beautiful eyes, only people who speak English as their mother (and only) tongue could ask this question... Why do you think American artist are so popular, globally? Do you think we (I am German) only start listening to English songs when we are old enough to speak English in school? What do you think we play on the radio?! That is so weird to me, I swear. I remember standing in front of my mirror as a kid, jamming to "Whistle" (I think it was Flo Rida?). I didn't understand a word and today I am questioning everything but?!?!?! Not everyone speaks English and still we listen to English songs? Sometimes I think some Americans (not all, obv but I see mostly Americans who ask these stupid questions) just think the US is all there is. It always triggers me when I see comments like that. I hope this text made sense because I got really angry all of a sudden😅, plus the topic of the video. I agree with everything you said.👍🏻

I was born in 1977,so I was still a child when all that happened,but we were taught about this terrible thing. I was raised by my grandparents and I am so thankful to them for teachings me that racism is wrong and that all people deserve the same respect,irrespective of race,age,sexuality or socio-economic status. I'm also a Registered Nurse and no where is the above more prevelant. I can't even imagine not helping and taking care of someone just because of their race. It's really disturbing. The backlash against BTS and Kpop is as much rooted in racism as it is in misogyny. Anything women and girls find interesting (or that is stereotypically associated with women and girls) is viewed as ‘juvenile’, ‘niche’ and ‘unimportant’. This is as opposed to men’s interests which are placed in a position of superiority. It’s considered respectable to be into sports yet being into boy bands is looked down upon.

Beacuse if bts is mentioned anywhere in the text automatically army is there, if you see something bad about bts it's best to not interact with it, less interactions to the negative and more to the positive. at least thats my way of thinking hoping that media sees more clicks with positive statement makes them want to publish good stuff about them ahhaha.
